Love that single cab.. it s lookin good ! I once bought a 70 yucon yellow bug that sat in a mans back yard for 25 years and he did the same thing with the black paint. I rubbed most of it off with finger nail polish remover and really fine steel wool. The car was very straight and looked good when i got most of it off. It was actually on an episode of barn find hunter... the guy had many cars

A product called "Goof-Off" works great, too. Spray it on, let it do its thing for 30 sec, and steel wool it off. Won't mess with the original paint. Cool stuff 😎 👌

Those early busses sure look smooth up front. This one is cleaning up nicely.👍

What a cute little Diamond in the rough! Did the same with my '58 dove blue bus and it turned out great. I like to use a cleaner wax, "TR-3 Resin...", to seal the surface after removing the oxidative layer. Looks great and saves the patina. Thanks for saving that old transporter 👍

totally agree. that old TR3 works great. they took it off the market for a while but I think they brought it back. They used to have an even better product back in the 80s when we had single stage called Parko Blue. But it is totally gone. you can find a picture on the internet but that is about it. Got bought out by one of the 3 big companies. Then they discontinued the line because most single stage is no longer being used.

@Mikefngarage yeah, good point, it's not for clear coats. When I can't find any TR-3, I like ZYMÖL, a German natural cleaner wax that gives good results, kinda like a saddle soap for paint, lubricates, conditions, and seals. Good stuff.

Hey Randy! That SC is looking good! I’ve been enjoying this series. I’ve tried a few methods on my bay window for removing spray paint…like you said, oven cleaner is pretty aggressive, some people have success with Citri-strip but I found it wasn’t quite aggressive enough and was somewhat laborsome, and there’s also Easy Off Graffiti Remover. You have to be aware of how long you’re leaving it sit on the paint like oven cleaner, but the Graffiti Remover is supposed* to remove spray paint while leaving underlying finishes uncompromised. Good luck!

"Goof-Off" is another effective spray on paint remover. I use the "professional strength" version. 👍

Looks good! Yes, I agree the oven cleaner is too strong for this, though also agree with the suggestion of Goofoff - it's a known success for this type of clean-up. Might I also suggest an easy mix of liguid dish detergent with the Comet, it significantly adds lubricity. Though it might mean the clean-up takes a little longer, preservation of the OG paint is what you want...a fair trade imho. Lookin forward to more on this & the rest of them!

Try "Goof Off" graffiti remover. I have used it before and it will take off the over paint without hurting the base coat.

Good tip! I'll try that on a small area first to make sure it's safe.
