The final day of travel of this 2000 mile insanity includes 590 miles from Gallup to "The Lab" in California. The tired old Mercedes (and its tire old driver) make the final push including some serious elevation climbs and mountain roads. Will they make it home?

Glad you made it home safely Randy. The fact that the car made it without any prep at its age is pretty amazing and speaks to the quality of it.

Congratulations on making it home! It is always a risk with an old classic car. Turned out to be a good car. Looking forward to seeing what else you purchased? Thanks Ray 🇨🇦

I have really enjoyed this mini-series. There's nothing like a big road trip to bond with a car, or not, depending on how it goes. I did a 1200 mile trip in my 72 Fiat 500 around 3 yrs ago in New Zealand and absolutely loved it. Sure it can be stressful with an old car, listening to every weird noise, always looking at the dials (the Fiat only has a speedo and gen and fuel warning lights:-), but really rewarding and memorable. That Merc is an absolute star. Thanks

Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Going over those last mountain passes is a testament to the quality of automobiles built by German manufacturers... at least the old ones anyway!

Back in my college days, I lived in Albuquerque and frequently ate at the Frontier restaurant. My girl had a gray 230 just like this that was T boned on the passenger side where I was sitting, and I walked away with no injuries. Pops had a 200, that was the same body style.

I recognized the old Desert Center cafe (at 14:34) and gas station. I ate lunch there many times in the past. First time was in 1950 when we came west. Gas station (Chevron) was open then too.
