I love listening to a knowledgeable VW guy, Randy, explain these buses !

Cool video Randy. Definitely enjoyed the tours of each one. One question. On the Highroof, did they retain the M code plate after replacing the bulkhead?
@CarchaeologyКүн бұрын
Unfortunately not. The original M code tag is missing
@EddyCollins-TZN168Күн бұрын
@ that’s what I kind of figured. No worries. Thank you for responding so quickly, Randy.

The high roof version bus bringns back some bad memories: My blind Grandpa had bought a high roof versionbus and we had loaded it with a dismanteled scaffolding. I was very young, unexperienced and dumb. We had to bring the load a few miles away. The weight distribution was much to high, the load very heavy and the brakes lousy and weak as was kind of normal for those buses. I had to make an extremely narrow right turn in order to enter a highway. The brakes could not slow down the bus down enough. We had to make the turn at least two times to fast. It was a miracle we did not fall on our side. My poor grandfather would cling on and I am happy he could not see but only feel the danger. I think for a moment the two right weels were in the air. I still shiver thingling about this scary event 45 years later. It surely taught me a lesson. A loaded transporter is different from a passenger car and do not trust the brakes of an old Volkswagen bus. I think this last one could and should be built as a camper

I love the first early pickup. I am astonished myself theat I kind of like the black and reddish brown primer spots. The most important thing beside making it run and stop would be the bed that is in need of cleaning and serious rust protection. Maybe some bedliner sprayed over with a fitting bright blue. I would clean and rustprotect the cabin roof and maybe leave the rest as is. Those strange spotted patterns of paint are part of the vehicles history.
@CarchaeologyКүн бұрын
To me the spots of paint are a horrible acne on the face of the beauty queen. No go on bed liner...its horrible to remove if you ever wanted to go back. Fortunately here in California the rust is not as fast. Ill clean and treat everything the best I can but it will be up to the new owner to do anything further I think.

If this estate sale represents one man's collection, huge respect. No doubt he searched far and wide to assemble such a unique collection. Almost a shame to see it broken up. Thinking there's at least two candidates for complete resto, too far gone to keep original. Love it that all these odd balls find Randy! He provides a nice way station for orphan vehicles, fixing them up a little, or a lot before sending them off to their next home. Fun gig.

Great collection. Try some oven cleaner to remove the odd paint. Acetone shouldn’t touch the original paint. Good luck

I scrapped a radial engine around twenty years ago when scrap metal was high . Dummy!!! I regret it! I was going through a divorce and needed $ to take care of my kids. It came from an old factory in Connecticut. They used it to power an air compressor!! So stupid!!
