More dynamic than ever, featuring a wealth of digital innovations and, for the first time, all-electric drive - this is how the new BMW 5 Series Sedan steps up to the plate.
A clear and reduced design language emphasises the new 5 Series Sedan’s sporty elegance and presence. Compared to the predecessor model, the new edition has grown in length by 97 millimetres, in width by 32 millimetres, in height by 36 millimetres and its wheelbase was lengthened by 20 millimetres.
The front view of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan is characterised by a modern interpretation of the twin headlights and BMW kidney grille. LED elements arranged almost vertically serve as turn indicators and daytime driving lights. The BMW kidney grille, which projects far forward, features a wide surround and optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting.
In the side view, the high shoulder line, powerfully designed surfaces and two precisely traced character lines shape the vehicle’s athletic body. Black side skirts, flush-mounted door openers and an embossed number 5 at the base of the C-pillar are further eye-catchers. The dynamically stretched proportions flow into a powerful rear end. Flat rear lights divided by a chrome strip interpret the hallmark L-shape expressively.
The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be further enhanced with the optional M Sport Package and the M Sport Package Pro.
Generous space, modern functionality, a high level of acoustic comfort as well as high-quality, precisely processed materials, fine workmanship and advanced digital services characterise the ambience in its interior.
The cockpit of the new BMW 5 Series has a significantly reduced number of buttons and controls compared to the predecessor model. This is achieved by consistently digitalising functions. The BMW Curved Display reinterprets the brand's hallmark idea of driver orientation. The fully digital display system consists of a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. The steering wheel has also been redesigned with a flattened lower section and haptic feedback on the control panels, and the selector lever on the centre console. The optional BMW Interaction Bar is another highlight. The effectively backlit functional unit with crystalline surface structure extends across the entire width of the instrument panel far into the door panels and includes touch-sensitive control panels.
Newly designed sports seats are standard equipment. The optional comfort seats offer a wide range of electrically operated adjustment options. The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is the brand's first model to feature a fully vegan interior as standard. This includes the surfaces of the seats, the dashboard and the door panels, as well as the steering wheel for the first time.
The all-electric BMW i5 is equipped with extensively enhanced fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is being launched in two variants. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive and the BMW i5 eDrive40.
Petrol and diesel engines from the new modular generation of BMW Group Efficient Dynamics engines will be offered in a market-specific selection. They now feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology throughout and are combined with a new 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission as standard.
The top model BMW i5 M60 xDrive, which combines an up to 442 kW/601 hp drive with hallmark M performance and specific design features. Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles make up an electric all-wheel drive. The system torque generated is up to 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) when M Sport Boost or the M Launch Control function is activated. This enables the BMW i5 M60 to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, its top speed is electrically limited to 230 km/h (143 mph).

I gotta say, the 5 series from 2023 looks much more elegant in the exterior and I really dislike removing convenient knobs for climate and radio and forcing the driver to take his eyes off the road to make changes and fiddle with the touch screen or dial. It looks too much like a tesla now in the interior...and that's not a good thing. I get it that every carmaker is tripping over themselves to get to "full EV" but not everyone is looking forward to that mess yet, especially the consumers. Let us enjoy the simplicity and elegance of traditional controls until we have no other choice, and stop jamming everything into a single over complicated tablet display that is going to get someone killed because its a forced distraction. I love technology as much as the next geek but not when its used purely for its own sake....

Have a 2021 and like the styling but not blown away with it. I'm likely not impartial but the new car does look clownish to me. Outside of the interior tech the only element on the new one I like is the taillights. Happy my two year old car isn't going to outclassed with new version. Have no interest in 'upgrading'. Maybe the car will look better in the flesh? JMHO

Sorry majority. I really like the new 2024 designed 5 series. I think it addresses all those parts of the 2023 that just made it look so old fashioned and fairly irrelevant when compared to some of the competition. Squarer overall including better looking grill, flush door handles with no useless cresses - all work. Putting a stamped "5" on the C Pillar is waste of time and cheapens, and the removal of some of the "daily use" button controls are annoying and unsafe. Overall it is a big improvement though.

Earlier the signature squircle Matrix light is now reduced to half circle. Cost cutting everywhere. The same thing they have done for 3 series as well. I understand facelift that doesn't mean that older version would excite more than newer version that signifies facelift is a complete failure and more marketing push than design and aesthetics

They went back to f10 design if you look better... higher siluete, fat car, with smaller lights on front just add some clean lines. Inside they went more back in past inspired by spartan e60 just add big tv in front. Overall design looks like it is for robots and some clean weather and roads with those piano black plastic skirts and flat seats in back, low with details , no soul and emotion in this car

I see where bmw is headed, they’re trying to step out of their comfort zone..ppl including myself love the controversy look. A look that’s been in BMW design for many many years. We the ppl are so use to that controversial design to the point we cringe when it has been changed. I mean hey it sales , and the sales proves that..but I am open minded for change , an this new 5 series has me kind of cringing but, I know once I see it in person..I will love it. ESP in my favorite bmw color. Black! I know when my lease is up on my 23 x3M, I know I will have to upgrade to one of these new looks in the next M series.

The current g30 model wasn't as refined as it is after its lci. Let's hope the g60 does get a proper lci. The front is way too cluttered, esp. arount the headlights.
