But I guess he's very comfortable sitting in his BMW where even turning on the airco or heated seats or entertainment or all those interior lights affect your range. My car also has lane assist, adaptive cruise control, has a DynAudio sound system with subwoofer, blind-spot warning, and so many other nifty features. All for the grand total price of (back in 2017 when I bought it 2nd-hand) $20,000. That BMW offers minimal added comfort (on top of forcing 40 to 60 minute recharging breaks very regularly) for an additional $60,000? Imagine that saving $60,000 can get you. Here's what: $40,000 in profit if you put it into an index fund for 5 years. Your expensive luxury car (that also costs a ton in expensive BMW maintenance) is costing you more than just the additional purchase price. And guess what? Most people driving those things are broke. Doug! I’ve been waiting for you to make this video for a year! My husband and I were looking for an EV for a year now… searching and searching, test driving and test driving. Well we just started a build for the BMW I5! And low and behold you finally put this video out! I’m shocked. I thought you were gonna skip this car! And then we were iffy on the cape green color, so we went with red! Still happy with red but you reviewed the green so we might’ve picked it 😅

Why on earth would you wait for Doug De Muros opinion on a car? He basically knows nothing about them. There are so many more competent reviewers out there. Watch the Harrys Garage video about this car. It's a pretty bad car.

Hey Doug - I like your video and I agree with the score that you gave the i5, but there are a few important things that I want you and others to be aware of when buying a 2024 5 - Series (incl. i5 and gasoline models): 1. iDrive 8/8.5 is *ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE* ; the controls for the self-driving feature (Driver Assistance Professional) are no longer on the steering wheel, they are now buried within the iDrive system! I find myself having to take my eyes off the road to adjust things like the cruise control distance! I've also noticed that some of the features/options/settings in iDrive 8 and 8.5 seems to vary between models (For example - The purple colored ambient lighting is not available in the 3/4 series, but it is available on the X1...??) 2. That Ambient Lighting bar, which is also called the "Interaction Bar with Ambient Lighting", is ONLY available (as of now) in the i5 and NOT in the gasoline 530i's! The 530i's will still have ambient lighting, but the design is both a joke and an insult and will come in the form of two lines -____- 2. You did mention that changing the driving modes will change the ambient lighting.... However in other models like the X7, there is a setting that will allow you to change driving modes without changing the ambient lighting color...?? 3. For those of you who like to open/close your sunroof, I would highly suggest you *AVOID* any 5 series that has the *Sky Lounge* option or any 5 series that has the *Executive Package* , which will include the *Sky Lounge* option! Why? The Sky Lounge is basically a panoramic sunroof, but you CANNOT open/close the glass and it does not have LED's - all you can do is either let in a lot of sunlight or no sunlight at all; I find it useless as I would rather have the option to open/close the glass to let air in. 4. As of now, new i5 owners get 2 years of free charging via Electrify America (owned by Volkswagen btw); the only model that get 3 years of free charging is the i7 Besides the Ambient Lighting (on the 530i's) and that horrible iDrive 8/8.5 system, I think they did a good job on the 5!

I’m glad this is an objective review, and not too many stupid comments from people who haven’t driven or can’t buy one. Having test driven 90% of EVs available in the UK, this is by far the best and most similar to a petrol car I’ve tried - maybe bar the i4. If you have the chance to try the M60, it is absolutely brilliant and exciting.
@caleidoo9 ай бұрын
I like how you immediately start off with invalidating the opinions of people who haven't driven the car or "can't buy one". Because you can only have an opinion about design and a feature list if you drove it or own it. This doesn't feel arrogant, ridiculous and overly defensive. Not at all.

My X7 M50i has a really crazy feature when your climate control is in 'auto' mode. Just say "Hey BMW, I'm stressed out". The car will then automatically change the ambient lighting to a soothing amber color, close the sunroof shade, close the rear door sunshades and start playing mellow Spa music. Just another little nugget I found with my BMW. Crazy technology! Love it.

I drove this and was very impressed - I think it drives far better than previous gen, which I always found disappointing. M60 takes it another level, improving both handling AND ride in a way that was reminiscent of old E-series BMWs (except no steering feel). Interior usability is a real shortcoming, but unfortunately that's true for most all new cars. At least it looks very impressive 🤷

Great review! Sadly, the U.S. market does not get the comfort seats, thus the headrests, the front seat leg extenders, and the back seat half-fold are manual instead of power. The U.S. market also doesn't get the Integral Active Steering, 4-wheel steering, and anti-roll stabilizer. We also don't get the Digital 4-Zone Rear Climate Control, M Style Seat belts, and front massage seats. Lastly, it is truly disappointing that BMW decided to get rid of the door sills. I enjoyed the door sills, especially the illuminated ones. Come of BMW, even the Honda Accord has them. In my opinion, the BMW has gone cheap, we get less, but pay a lot more. Cheap plastic door panels, hard dashboards, cheap plastic window switches, and no Matrix LED lights.
