Except when you look at 5 year old versions with 100k miles, they are half the price. Thats linear depreciation. Why pay half the price for a car with half the useful life left? Then in 5 years inflation will make it so buying your next used car with 100k miles will be even more expensive. Used cars are crazy expensive for what you get.

We sat in the 3rd row with 3 adults to test out overall space (shoulder width etc). The pilot was far more comfortable. Our knees didn’t sit up as high and we had more shoulder room due to the boxier rear end of the pilot. The GH might be 1.5 inches longer, but it’s not as wide at your shoulder height.

After waiting nearly 17 months for a Platinum Hybrid Highlander, I opted for a 2023 Pilot Black Edition a few weeks ago. I'm not regretting the decision at all. It's gigantic, looks great and is very smooth and comfortable. Ultimately it's not only which car is better, it's also which one you can actually get ahold of.

I 100% agree with you. Toyota Chantilly VA dealer is charging $5000 above MSRP and they are adding extra $1000 in their processing fees which makes XLE $58,125 and waiting for months. VS Honda dulles dealer is giving car Pilot EX-L at MSRP of $46,980 plus tax, tile and processing fees will give out the door around $50,000 and change with 2-4 week waiting. I would say in this comparison they should show greediness of Toyota dealers. I feel Toyota is producing less cars to hype up the demand and keep price of their cars high. I would defiantly choose Honda over Toyota.

I've owned my 2023 pilot elite for 4 months now, and I am so impressed with the power from the new power plant v6 and how comfortable the ride is. It hugs the road with no body roll. So those people lining up to buy the hybrid and paying 55k-68K+ (depending on trim) all cash are getting royally fudged in the bunghole by Toyota practices... Naturally aspirated V6 engines tend to have a smoother power delivery and can provide good performance across a wide range of RPMs. They often offer a balance between power and fuel efficiency. turbocharged 4-cylinder engines can provide more power for their size due to forced induction. However, the additional complexity of turbocharging can introduce potential reliability concerns, such as the turbocharger itself and associated components like intercoolers and boost pressure control systems.

the NA v6 suck at lower rpm uses, no power and torque as turbo engines are better for daily driving with full torque available down low. Plus with hybrid there's the electric motor as well, further improving this. Also, the Toyota has dual injection compared to pilot direct injection only. So your statement needs to be updated lmao

@@MikeyG003 After having driven both the GH I-4T and Pilot Elite, the GH was a solid head above in both torque and NVH. I liked the notion of the V-6, but it's transverse orientation and location in front of the front wheels made for significant NVH and felt under powered compared to the GH I-4T.

The electric motors juice the GH at the take off just like any EV. There’s also the MPG. I’m guessing the Pilot gets 23-24mpg. The GH they drove is 27. Other manufacturers seem to have problems getting any effciency bump out of hybrid technology. The Mazda Cx-90 PHEV only gets 1mpg better than the inline 6. I’m not sure why you would pay more for the hybrid just for around town electric only.

We just traded in our 2022 Telluride for a 2023 Pilot. We’re absolutely fascinated by the Pilot. It drives like a luxury European SUV. We were disappointed by the Telluride. Unrefined, lacks power, torque, road noise was horrible. Not sure if it was because of the factory installed Pirelli tires, but also handling, cornering, transmission shifts etc. everything fails compared to new Pilot.

@@pankajajmera007 I do not understand why it’s ranked 1st in class. And don’t get me wrong, it does have some good points. It looks good. It’s does have a lot of space. And it comes well equipped. But Pilot checks all those boxes as well. Plus it’s drives like a-Honda. Telluride still drives like a Kia. And Kia has come a long way. But in my point of view, still not on the same level as Honda. Specially this new Pilot, which performs much better, and handles almost like a BMW. Kia is still way behind when it comes to driving characteristics, and that’s what really mattered to us. Go test drive both on the same day, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I think that the 3rd row space is about the same. This is the way I’d put it: Telluride looks like a luxury European vehicle, Pilot drives like one . Telluride might be worth it if it was several thousand cheaper than Pilot, but dealers are actually charging more for Telluride than Pilot. I definitely think that’s not worth it.

It is certainly a great vehicle, but still went with the Pilot for the V6 and, at least in terms of the feeling, a more open and spacious front seating area and out-the-window openness. And it may not be the issue that it used to be, but in the past they used to say avoid first year first generation vehicles, bound to be bugs that need to be worked out, even for a company like Toyota... The one thing that really bothers me about the new Grand Highlander has nothing to do with its great amenities and improvements in power and size. It’s when a test driver who has years of experience driving hundreds of different vehicles, describes the “ body roll” or FLOATY” feeling when changing lanes or on a curvy road. If you have driven over hundreds of thousands of miles like I have, with about a 40 different vehicles, that feeling is disconcerting to say the least. It’s a feeling of loss of control, like when you need to pass another vehicle and need to get back into the right lane on a busy highway or freeway. When I’m transporting my family, this body float feeling is very, very worrisome. Imagine you need to make a sudden lane change with any SUV (because of their high center of gravity) a roll over is a possibility. The Honda Pilot does NOT exhibit this problem like the Grand Highlander. Just sayin.

I like the look of both, but this trend of making buyers pay extra for a subscription is absurd and needs to go away, if I’m paying over $50k for a car I shouldn’t be forced to pay a monthly subscription for a feature that’s already on the car…build it into the price of the car ffs!

It was a tough choice for me between a Pilot and a Highlander. But after watching how poorly a Highlander fared in a AWD test video from The Fast Lane ("The Winner Is Obvious: 2023 Toyota Highlander vs 2023 Honda Pilot | AWD Torture Test & Off-Road") I ordered a Pilot. I live in a snowy rural area and need a family hauler with a dependable AWD.

I stopped worrying about Toyota Hybrids 15 years ago. Gregory took the words right out of my mouth, Toyota Hybrids are so robust that NYC has them running around as taxis. There is no greater crucible than that. Also, the Grand Highlander uses the older Nickel batteries which are far more robust than Lithium batteries. It is a win win. Toyota has never gotten the credit they deserve when it comes to Hybrids, but now the world is forced to notice. The Grand Highlander and Prius are foreshadowing what will be the next Camry. Just as this Pilot stands no chance, the Accord will also stand no chance.

You also didn't mention that you can't even get a 2nd row bench seat for more family seating capacity in either the limited or the platinum trims?! BIG Fail by Toyota. A 4 cyl engine will wear out faster with a turbo. It's simply wasn't meant for that kind of work. Especially with a vehicle that size. Also, the strain when its fully loaded with people and their gear is too much. Don't even think about towing with a 4cyl. But im glad they made the distinction between the two engines. If you're going to trade it in after 60,000 miles, it won't really matter. But if you're keeping it for more than that, I'd go with the Pilot.

Because Toyota insists I have captains chairs in the 2nd row, I have to choose the Pilot (a dictate from on high :-)). I'd really rather get the Platinum Hybrid Max but until Toyota bucks the trend of high trims must have captains chairs, I'm stuck with the lower performing Pilot. It sucks that both of these have ballooned over $50k though. The Pilot is probably 2nd overall in the SUV world now right behind this new Grand Highlander.
