When i do training and explain machine polshing I always finish with now you know the basic 4 pass method its up to you to asess your resutls and change speed pressure pads and compounds as there are more variables than i can cover in a few hours of training so learning is always ongoing. Your bad back may be temporarily affecting your ability to detail, but it hasn't affected your ability to teach others. I really appreciate the tip about diluting down IPA solutions when working on soft, black paint jobs, or using a primer polish. It seems some soft, black paints will mar if you breath on them too hard. I also really enjoyed the spot correction work you performed, as well as the contrasting of polished exterior glass vs. unpolished exterior glass (the microfiber towel sticking to the contaminants on the unpolished side and sliding off the polished side). Hey Sandro! Hopefully your back heals up well. One of these days, could you do a video about what you’d recommend for going to an auto parts store and getting a whole detail setup from there? I have some solid ideas for meguiars, griots, mothers, and chemical guys but the majority of customers I deal with want a little more of a streamlined setup from start to finish and don’t like making the extra trip elsewhere or don’t want to go to a automotive detail supplier. Sandro, love the content brother, very informative and i manage to always pick up a tip or two through your videos. As a detailer whom has attempted to record the entire detailing process from washing the wheels to final inspection on a ceramic coating project, I understand the amount of time that it requires to move equipment around, stage the perfect angle for a shot, capture great footage of the B&A's, etc..(and having only uploaded one of many videos I've attempted, due to gaps in video recordings) I appreciate your thoroughness in these videos. With that said, the IK Foam Pro 12 can be compressed via an air compressor via the built in Schrader valve. So for those that have an air compressor (even just a small gallon sized one), there's no need to work those muscles unless you want to. what do you think about putting say half a dozen microfiber towels into your clean soap bucket and wipe down a panel starting from top working your way down (in case of door) wash window then flip towel to clean side and continue down doing same process to all panels should use up all the towels in the soap bucket. Seen this one on Gary Deans' channel. Is a way to wash car with only one bucket and saves time having to continually rinse a wash mit.

I think it could potentially work well, but I personally prefer using mitts/pads as the inner foam tends to be more gentle and evens out the pressure of your hand/fingers to further help reduce swirls and mitts/pads just glide over paint more easily compared to wet cloths that tend to be a little harsher, grippier and heavier. I just thing the inner foam has many benefits, but I guess it’s really just the multi-mitt method using cloths instead.

In many cases you’ll just be slowly polishing down that contamination rather than lifting it off - that’s why automotive clay was created because those particles aren’t easily removed in any other way.

Sandro, I love and resonate with what you said at the end (36:00 and on) Regarding the washing methods, I've always just used ONE bucket (and don't fill it with 4 or 5 friggin' gallons, 1-2 gallons are enough) with a chenille mitt and hose down the mitt super often. With that method, my rinse water never gets dirty and I've kept my daily driver nearly 100% swirl free for years at a time in between polishes (more like 90% swirl free now after 3 years, and the few it does have will come out with a finishing polish). It's all about awareness and common sense. As for the polishing part with the polishing technique and how many passes etc: I just keep it natural and simple. I learned how to polish cars by trial and error, before hopping on youtube and having this amazing library of top notch teachers was a thing. Point is, it puzzles me how so many people (maybe most) focus on the wrong details. I see them asking online (forums, youtube comments, etc) how many passes did you/should I make? how much pressure did you apply, what pads and polish did you use, was it soft or hard clear, etc. Another huge pet peeve of mine is the whole crosshatching your work thing. Both in polishing and applying coatings. You don't HAVE to crosshatch when you polish to get results. That's just ONE of the ways you can polish and just so happens to be "the method" that stuck and everybody follows such as to supposedly help you not miss spots and be more even. Truth is, I don't count my passes, and I don't crosshatch my work, I've developed a rythm for polishing and just polish an area till I feel the set is done. In some areas I'll go left to right, overlapping each pass over the last one as I keep moving it down or back up. Some other times I'll go from left to right, then back left and back right in that same area, and then I'll move down below that area and do the same thing and repeat till I've polished a section. If I'm polishing a tight channel, like the pillar that runs all the way from the bonnet and goes back and ends up turning into the rear quarter panel, I"ll just polish that thing left and right, as it's likely the same size as my 3" or 4" pad, or smaller. I've literally seen people crosshatching that tiny little area wasting time and being counterproductive. In some areas I'll polish left to right then to back to another part and polish in triangles, or whatever the shape of the surface I'm polishing may be. Adapt to the panels. 41:15 Is a great example of what I mean. A lot of people would have gone left to right and then crosshatched between the two faces (the horizontal portion and the vertical portion) when it's completely unnecessary and would put undue stress on the sharp edge of the turn. Sandro instead used his common sense and went side to side. You gotta learn from your teachers if you didn't teach yourself, but you also gotta ask yourself the why behind something, whether it's appropriate to do at the moment or if it's at all necessary. Don't be afraid to do some critical thinking and challenge the norm if you think there's reason to. Experiment different ways to do things. Like the saying goes; there's more than one way to skin a cat. Another thing I'd like to add while we're in the topic of challenging the norm, did you know you can just buy a big, 32oz bottle of Stoner Invisible glass for 5 bucks and use it to remove polishing oils prior to installing a coating or just your favorite wax/sealant? Yup, you don't need to spend 24 bucks (over 4x the cost for the same amount) for a bottle of CarPro Eraser, Gyeon Prep or one of their many equivalents from so many detailing brands. I've been using it for years with great success. I mean think about it, it's meant to clean glass, where the objective is to remove oils and grease from the skin of people touching it, AND it has to leave behind ZERO residue, or else you'll see it because it's... well it's glass, so it's completely transparent and every little bit of residue is easily visible. It's ammonia free and I've never had any issues with it (Don't go grabbing a bottle of Windex cuz it's not the same! That stuff has ammonia and it's super harsh!). It's funny because everybody that uses Eraser or equivalents always rave about how amazing it is on glass and I've always been like of COURSE it's great on glass, it IS a glorified, overpriced glass cleaner that the detailing industry took advantage of, slapped a label of smoke and mirrors and marketed it disingenuously with lies. They say they remove waxes and sealants when they clearly don't, etc. This rant is already massive enough and I should have just made a forum post about it. If you made it this far, god bless your soul and I'm sorry, I wrote it all so quickly that I didn't notice how long it was!

I think beginners will have all those nuanced questions due to lack of experience which is completely understandable but as with all things in life the answers lie in your ability to seek them out through self learning rather than being provided with answers that don’t give you the whole picture.

My general rules is to keep things simple or eliminate variables when possible. So I wouldn’t add an additional chemical unless I was having issues with using the panel wipe as is - there would need to be a reason or issue it solves.

Sandro, can you please tell me what you think of applying an Iron Remover on rims first, then rinsing off and then applying a wheel cleaning product like Brake Buster to clean the rim? Or should the rim be cleaned first, rinsed and the Iron Remover applied last(then rinsed)? I notice much more iron showing up when I use the first method as compared to the 2nd method.

More iron ( bleeding ) will show up if you haven't rinsed first because rinsing removes the loose brake dust particles which is why your getting more of a reaction with your first method. Brake buster is a good product and can be diluted to take some of the aggression out of it, i don't think you need ironX if you're using brake buster because there kinda the same.. To rinse first or not to rinse first is up to you and the how dirty your wheels are, there is no right or wrong if your getting the results you want, just make sure your wheels are cold.. One more thing , don't get to much ironX or brake buster down behind the back of the brake rotor because it can cause the hand brake pads inside to literally stick themselves to the inside of the rotor if the vehicle has been sitting for a day or so after washing with the handbrake on damaging the hand brake pads when the car is moved ... i did it to my own car accidentally once, lesson learned..

The purple colour reaction is not always the best indication of how well a wheel/iron remover works, it’s just one indication, the cleanliness of the wheel should be the ultimate judgement. I honestly think you can use either of the two process - there’s pro and cons both ways and not a clearly better way- but I’d just be sure to include a pre-rinse before you physically clean the rims with brushes regardless of whether you use the chemical before or after that rinse as to reduce wash induced swirls.

Black Honda paint is up there with the most sensitive and difficult, Nissan as well and if you go back to older single stage paints, the Italian sports cars of past eras were very tricky to correct well, and some of the new Euro ceramic clears are ridiculously hard and also very difficult to remove defects. Toyota tends to be decent to work with, blue Subaru is one of my favourites and a lot of late 90s to mid 2000s Euro cars had nice paint that wasn’t as super hard as it is today. But it’s really all just generalisations as anything can go with any car manufacturer.

Hi sandro, i somehow missed seeing this video when it came out. Nice job. Got a question for you. I watched another detailing channel's video and they put a few drops of a medium cut compound and a couple of drops of a fine finishing polish together on the same pad. Whats your thoughts on this? Is this any different than using a good one step polish? Is it like creating your own one step by choosing your favourite cutting compound and finishing polish? Thx in advance

Combining different compounds and polishes is something I’ve done in the past but honestly not something I do very often. It just adds another variable you have to contend with in mixing and making sure you stay consistent. Like you mentioned, a good one step should already have both good cutting and finishing qualities so I’d much rather find a compound that has this rather than mixing cocktails on the pad.

Although Lustre will bond more effectively to bare paint it also tends to bond to almost any surface rather well so I’d expect it to work well over Uno Protect.

Hey Sandro, wonder if u can help me. Id like to detail a friends VW Amarok ute. It has a carbon fibre look wrap bonnet and tailgate that looks a little unloved. Can u recommend anything that i can use on this type of surface that will not be too harsh on it and will give it back a little more of the matt black look? Im not going to hold u liable fpr anything lol, just want a product thats safe on that type of surface. Ive looked online but cant find anything that says its specifically for this kind of surface. Matte paint, trims or wraps are a hard one because you simply can’t polish them, so you are hugely limited in the ability to restore them in any substantial way. The only thing you can do is use a wax, sealant or coating to slightly improve them but I wouldn’t expect too much if the wrap is noticeably oxidised, stained of weathered. Carpro has CQuartz Skin which can be a good option to help improve and stop it from getting worse but like I said, matte finishes are really something you just have to look after from the get go as options are extremely limited.

When I having issues with my body, I am sure this is my body yelling me it need to relax, so take it easy Sandro if possible of course. Just to add a previous comment from Povilas, I am not only watching you over 4 years, but can honestly say was teached by you and your videos!!! Thank you for this very-very much! It was so obvious you made this video earlier as we all can see how far you have went with your filming/additing skills, so good you told that at the beginning))) You are absolutely right, you teached me this and I want to confirm - different technics should be used in different countries, states, regions, climates as we all have different temperature, humidity and different national physical factors which make influence to even normal wash and of course the huge impact to the maintenance and paint correction. I am for example is pushed to use Tar-X every wash during winter time as majority of road users are using spike winter tires and all my white colour beauty is full of tar and bitumen, etc, etc. Great video anyway Sandro and I appreciate your talks, comments and advices. Hey Sandro mate amazing explanations as always. I believe that one of the main confusing subjects about detailing ia performing a test spot. There are so many variables. You say always to start with the least aggressive method but you can start with least aggressive polish + pad. You can combina a polish with : hard foam, microfiber, wool, medium foam. The change polish and cha ge again pads... I don't know if you get me... If you do, what's a good advice? Because one can finish an entire bottle just testing pads and Compounds 😂

I say start with the least aggressive method that has the potential to work, so that will be different depending on how bad the paint is to start with. So a little past experience helps you avoid using a whole bottle as well as using your test results to make judgment calls to help you progress much quicker to the winning combination. Just like everything in life, you need to assess and use all the information and your past experience to find the best solution.

As far as i can see, they are all rechargeable ones when i search them? How have you connected them all to the mains and do you have a universal switch for them all? Thank you!

My pleasure mate. That was my old shop, and they were Hella Nova Lights (also a brand owned by ScanGrip). Those lights weren’t battery powered and they were hard wired by an electrician on six seperate light switches so they could be turned on and off in sets.

Every machine is a little different and always requires a bit of technique adjustment, that doesn’t mean it’ll never jump especially during a lack of concentration moment or around some really dramatic curves or crevices, but if you invest in getting a better feel for it you will generally have a much nicer experience and better results from it. It just takes some time and a willingness to become better with it.
