Card Thoughts: I'm FRUSTRATED with the Credit Card Content on YouTube!

This video is my personal rant about the content available on KZbin for people at an advanced stage of the credit card hobby. Where is the content for non-beginners, people who only use points for aspirational travel, and those who will never use a travel portal.
Agree or disagree? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

I mostly agree. I do feel the same frustration. I guess the money in KZbin is for those who garner a wide audience and there just is not a lot of people in this hobby. Some of the creators have tried to go a little deeper, but I guess, those videos don't do well. The videos about APRs and credit scores are a hard pass for me. I made my first redemption over 20 years ago and have gotten deep into the game the last three years or so. I grew out of most of the KZbin content a couple of years ago. I even get tired listening to the ones who talk about who drone on incessantly about multipliers. There are always more SUBs, upgrade offers and spend bonuses. The multipliers don't matter. Frequent Miler is great, I have watched all their videos, many more than once. Some others are not to bad. I have been tempted to start my own KZbin channel to try to find a way to engage more in the hobby. To be clear, like you, not for profit - Idon't want the banks to tell me what I can and cannot say. In fact your rant contains some of what I had thought would be in my first video. I have so many ideas. All that being said, I do disagree with one of your perspectives. As someone who likes to not let my travel affect my family budget (somewhat like Dugroz Reports) and who is not always gladly upsold to premium cabins, I find the travel portals valuable. Add to it that one can book fully refundable flights makes them even better. To me 1.538, 1.5, or 1.25 CPP cash back is better than 0.6, 1.0 or 1.1 cash back. Am I getting 4X or 10X off of retail prices? No! But I am not getting upsold either.

It's good to hear that others have the same frustrations. To be clear, I generally fly domestically with work travel and therefore rack up lots of airline miles with AA or Delta, so any domestic leisure travel is booked through those miles. This is why I never need to use travel portals. I use my transferable points for aspirational oversees trips only. I should have clarified. Thanks for the comment.

I think this is a demographics problem. If you're going to produce content to gather views, you're just simply going to get more engagement if you go to the younger beginners in this space particularly on KZbin. It took FrequentMiler years before they added a KZbin component to what they do, and really it's just the video of their podcast.

True. I think they also have to create content for the involvement level of the audience… most people won’t have the desire or discipline to do it at a high level. Thanks for the comment.

Travel portals are great for domestic travel and also are good options if you have only specific travel days. There has been too many times where I came up empty with travel partner availability. Just sayin

That’s a good point. In my circumstances I can travel whenever I choose (as long as I plan it out ahead of time) so it certainly is different for people in different circumstances. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm in my mid 70's. I started traveling over 50 years ago long before credit cards really were a thing. At that time we used travelers checks. I decided the best way to see the world was working overseas. I became an Engineer and spent forty years working abroad. Africa, Asia, South America, Middle East and Europe. I've seen more of this world then any of you points and miles guys will ever see and really got to know the local people wherever I lived. I also raised my family there as well. Now that I'm retired I still travel and carry a few Credit cards but don't get obsessed with them. All you you points and miles guys need to get a life.

Agree, unfortunately. Some Chanel’s provide more advanced content than others. And if one does your own research to get a specific card and rewards goal strategy, some of the card specific reviews are really helpful. However, many of the videos are glorified sales videos with content which is solidly geared towards beginners. For example, very few people talk about the order of banks to apply to, or the general goals of travel. Everyone is free to watch different channels, and yours is quite realistic and helpful.

I agree with you! Boring content, outdated, many U TUBERS info was created many months ago to even a year ago in some cases. 📢 Speaking about the same context over and over. Thank you for you refreshing statements. 🎉
