I’ve enjoyed playing a Cardassian in STA. Our setting is about 7 years post Dominion War. Lot of food for thought in the episode.

The Enigma Tales was an amazing way to use art to describe and show case the Cardassian culture. Great call out Meric.

Haven't seen the video yet, but this sounds very Xcom. 😅 I recall a funny comic about one of those cobra aliens being born in on Earth and so he identifies as an Earthling and is very anti xenos coming to attack his home.

Al is absolutely correct here. The germans of WW2 were told they were victims (on the American side of the country) of the Austrian painter and his cohorts. The former german soldiers trauma bonded with soldiers all over the world during the mercenary conflicts that characterized the cold war. Scientists and business leaders were brought in to help out tons of industry on both sides of the pond. And for all intents and purposes, all was forgiven in roughly the same generation. Contrast and compare this to the post war Japanese. They assumed the worst that they had inflicted on their neighboring counties would happen to them, but then it didn't. The American forces were absolutely helpful and kind to the citizens. This went along way to healing the scars. While the American public was not fond of the Japanese to the extent their government was, within two generations of cultural exchange amongst the youth in technology, art, and culture absolutely brought the two countries very tight and close together in such a bond that persists to even today. And to the new guy, ¿merric? it's not cheap to quote a Captain American quote, he is an idealized pop culture hero that was acting as the voice of a writer who was very much aware of the darkness and good within the hearts of men. Today's heros can be tomorrows villains and swap over again the next day. No one is perfect and no one is beyond redemption. YOU GUYS ARE TODAY'S WRITERS. You can speculate to the cows come home, or you can continue to write and produce the future you want to see based on your experiences of today. Who knows, maybe this new merger/buy out will open many doors to all of you in this new era of Star Trek post 2024.

The answer is to the question of forgiveness, has to be individualized, not culturally. I think because the "real" world is still in the throws of these issues, it would be hard to do beyond the individual or local small community level, Essentially show the initial steps. The one fateful negotiation, or catalyst event.

Perhaps the Cardassians started down the path they did because of a lack of resources, but by the 24th century they've acquired replicator technology and should have the means to move toward postscarcity. I have a feeling that the Obsidian Order and/or the Central Command were deliberately preventing an economic paradigm shift to perpetuate the political status quo. (And yes, the Ferengi seem to be doing something similar, although for different reasons.) [pedantic aside] _Erstwhile_ means _former,_ so unless Jim is leaving the show.... [/pendantic aside]
