Debra, this cardboard dollhouse is beautiful. You did a wonderful job. I also like to build my own Barbie Dream Houses from MDF and cardboard boxes. They are OOAK and totally unique. No one has one like mine. I find it a very satisfying hobby. I have been a collector and crafter of Barbie/Ken for 45+ years. I limit myself to 15 dollhouses. I eventually give them to children of my friends. Your dollhouse is BEAUTIFUL. Keep on creating and enjoying!!!

This is lovely, I subscribed after finding your cardboard staircase which I was looking for to make some outbuildings that I want around a Tudor house that I am about to make (kit of Historically accurate Tudor house at 1:15th scale). I intend to make a cobbled or flagged yard with some sheds and needed a stair to a hayloft. Its pretty ambitious but I believe in the stuff you guys call chipboard (its MDF here, chipboard is a harder heavier thing alltogether) as I'm a long time fan of Thicketworks who shows how to make it as solid as wood by applying thin superglue!

If you're making this out of scrap cardboard how do I keep the creases from showing through just prime them?
@DebraCarmona Жыл бұрын
I added layers, 2 for the outside and then with the siding added you don't see any of the folds, seam, or creases. For the inside I used wall paper to cover the cardboard. If your still worried about creased showing before adding wallpaper mix 1 part glue 1 part wall compound to smooth out the surface. Apply with a smooth flat paint brush. When dry you can sand it. Hope that helps.
@JtTrejo-p6q11 ай бұрын
Hi! So to make it sturdy? You just added layers of cardboard? No paper mache needed?
@DebraCarmona11 ай бұрын
Basically yes 2 layers or more will make cardboard sturdy. It is even stronger if the corrugated grain of cardboard go in perpendicular directions. Also at the end I hardened the surface with a mixture of wall joint compound and glue. I did put paper on the outside edges to cover the rough edges for a more smooth finish before the slat boards which were made of mat boards cut into 1" strips.
@RobynWright-f1g8 ай бұрын
That was fantastic Debra. I will subscribe and check out what other videos you have. Would love a few measurements and as I am just starting off is that a 1:12 scale? Was there two layers of cardboard used for the walls. Great job. Cheers Robyn ❤😊
@DebraCarmona8 ай бұрын
When I started this project I didn't pay much attention to scale but it is close to a 1:12 scale. My next one will be more uniform. I considered this one a practice one.
@DebraCarmona8 ай бұрын
Replying again since I missed answering one of your questions. I wish I had used two layers thick on the interior walls or used two layers of matboard a much sturdier board. The exterior does have two layers of cardboard.
@RobynWright-f1g8 ай бұрын
@@DebraCarmona Thanks Debra. I was going to make my project with one thickness of cardboard but after looking at your video, I thought that looks sturdier. Thank you for getting back to me. Cheers Robyn 😊
@DollsandEverythingElseАй бұрын
Love this! It turned out really nice. Questions, how much glue to joint compound do you use for the hardening mixture; how long does it take to dry; and is the joint compound a dry mix or paste like and is this considered gesso? Thank you.
@DebraCarmonaАй бұрын
1:1 ratio The joint compound is a like a thick paste it is used for dry wall and joint repair of sheet rock. But you can get it in a dry mix that you would add water to prepare it. It may take about an hour to dry maybe less. It is not a gesso but I suppose very similar. I hadn't thought about using gesso. I bet that would do the same thing.
@DollsandEverythingElseАй бұрын
@ thank you so much for responding. I’ll try my gesso since it may be similar and I do have some. Thanks again.
