Carding Alpaca Fibre

That is one slick carding machine! I have my eye out for any fiber equipment that may pop up here locally. We have sheep and I raise a lot of other fiber plants so I am really enjoying your felting and this carding video.

Bonnie Doon Homestead Thanks for the comment. I had a bit of work to do on this one when I got it including adding a three phase motor and sped controller. It appears the better condition and more modern ones go for good money as they have a modern use carding seaweed fibre for medical dressings. No doubt many have been scrapped but there will be one sitting in some dusty corner waiting for you somewhere!

I sure hope so! I am having to do a lot of DIY processing and yet with the quantity of wool I have progress has been slow but getting a system in place and trying to source tools is not a fast process. But each year we get closer and closer to getting it in place. When I seen this video I understood right away what it takes to get there so I had to applaud your accomplishment. That machine working is a game changer.

I called machinery suppliers in Bradford, which historically was a centre for textiles. The place I found had two other similar sized machines, but the other two were in better shape and more expensive as they have a second life carding seaweed fibre for wound dressings - who knew! I had to do a bit of work on the carder and added a three phase motor, powered by a single-to-three phase inverter with a speed controller to power it.

What is a Machenisom of comb Box? Anyone know?

We are interested in this machine. What is its productivity? What are the motor power and rpm and the swift drum diameter and width?

It is well over a hundred years old. I added a 3 phase inverter off a single phase supply to give me speed control. It is for my own hobby use so productivity is of no concern. Best wishes.
