I was alerted to Atrial fibrillation by my Apple Watch & was shocked to learn that as a result I have heart failure as I had no symptoms - lift weights 4x a week , eat a plant based diet, a healthy weight etc. my ejection fraction was 25% with a prognosis for 6-12 months if the medications didn’t work! A year on & my EF is now 55-60% thanks to Entresto. Also taking Bisoprolol, Eplerenone & dabigatran also 6 months ago had the diabetic medication empagliflozin you mentioned. I feel a dodged a bullet thanks to my watch as I would never haveknown of the state of my heart which has an enlarged right atrium largely because of the permanent Afib . until I probably had a medical event.

Thanks for your excellent explanation of heart failure . I am 75 and have had my aortic valve replaced 10 years ago.I developed Afib a couple years ago and also have heart failure. I’m still reasonably active and walk six kilometres every morning .I am on medication for my heart and see a specialist once a year at this stage.I didn’t know a lot about heart failure but after your explanation I feel a lot better. Thank you and I’ll keep watching your videos to help me understand my heart condition a lot better

Excellent. Thank you very much. You do a GREAT job. 2 extremes. My very fit pastor had a CA in a public place. Immediate help. Airlifted to hospital. Coma, surgery etc. Awesome. A Something inserted to his chest as back up. Doing well. Walks 5 miles a day. Retired aged 71. Feels great. Yet, his EF is only at 35%. Wow. My relative has high blood pressure and now refers to that as her heart failure condition. Eh? 🤔 P.S. Greetings from Scotland. ❤

Hi: Can you do a video on how much and type of exercise a 75-year-old senior citizen with slight hear failure can do. I walk 3-4 miles, 4 times a week, feel good after a 15-minute slow walking period, then complete at 22 minutes per mile pace. I am afraid that the knees, ankles and feet will give out and I eventually cannot walk without pain. Thank you.

I was suddenly hit with all of the symptoms of heart failure during lock down in Wales after a few years of AF. I had no idea what was happening and was at stage 4, I attempted to get an ambulance twice but was denied both times, I couldn't get out of a chair and stand without nearly fainting and palpitations were regular while seated. I also gained weight through water retention quickly and almost reached 30 stone. All of this happened while under a cardiologist and AF nurse who never told me that I was in heart failure, I only found out that I was suffering heart failure when I received a phone call out of the blue from the heart failure team of nurses who just told me that I was going to be out on new medication. I didn't know who they were or what they were talking about because they had assumed that I had been told I was in heart failure and had had it all explained to me. To this day, three or more years on, I've still never had the words 'heart failure' said to me or had it explained. I am certain that this is because I was left in untreated AF for over two years before and over the pandemic which has resulted in heart failure and my university health board might be held liable for negligence of this is the cause. The hospital in question has been in and out of special measures for many years, including the time my AF went untreated. Thank you for this video as it's the first time I've had any of that information explained to me.

Thanks for the informative video. My mother 64 yrs old was diagnosed with heart failure 3 days back and is in stage 2. She has stiff heart muscle so medications were given to her. Her ejection fraction is 30 percent. Can heart failure be reversed with medications? What is the life expectancy of heart failure patients and will they live long?
@TheHeartDoctor

Thank you for sharing. Medications can manage the symptoms of heart failure and help to prevent its progression. It would be prudent to discuss issues surrounding life expectancy with the heart failure team looking after your mother as each case is different.

@@TheHeartDoctor Thank you so much for your reply. Do you mean to say that the progression stops with medications?

You're welcome. Medications help to prevent progression of heart failure. However, response to treatment varies among individuals. I wish your mother all the best with her treatment.

Hi, I am Uttam from MAURITIUS Two years back I suffered. Mild stroke with left cheek drop and a bp of 17.3 with bad visual acuity I was seen by a cardiologist and a opthamologist.The latter precribed a drop and after 2-3 days i was good. I am a diabetic guy since 6 years and on 50/500 Galvus Met and my test are good. For the past months i am facing a challenge of high bp going to 16.2 over 10.1 max these days. I have 2-3 drinks only on weekends but however has experience couple of heart running beats at night. I did an MRI of the brain and nothing adverse found. Would you mind sharing your views,please. Thanks and regards.

Hi. I have heart failure and my doctor believes it was brought on by a heart blockage. Stents were placed in the arteries to open them. Is there anything I can do to strengthen my heart?
