What was the best deck ever? It's finally here. We cut 27 Worlds Winning Standard to the final 2. We played five rounds of Swiss, and now we bring you each match of the Top 8. Andrea is playing Carl here and either Glorybringer or Glorybringer could be knocked out of the tournament... oh wait

This was a great series. I absolutely love that the janky black deck from 1997 made it into the top 4 with decks from the late 2010s "purposely overpowered" era of card design.

Great series! It was a nice peek through Magic's competitive history. I think it would have been fun to have the older decks play with the MTG rules of the time. Like: mana burn, damage on the stack, old legend rule(s), old mulligans, batching instead of the stack, etc. (Maybe that's a future video idea? Playing modern decks with old rule sets?)

What can Hazored hope to do against Jar? For game one, its cards don't matter beyond 2x Doomfall & maybe 3x Abrade. After sideboarding they're up to 4x Doomfall, 2x Duress, & 1x Sorcerous Spyglass. I doubt that's enough.

Ouff, I'm only on round one and can already really see the difference in skill level. Andrea would've never kept a 5-lander with a 5-drop and Magma spray otd, let alone let Scrapheap Scrounger hit again and again or play into the chainwhirler that was super obvious. I would've loged if two players with a more equal skill level would've played that final, maybe Andrea vs Thoralf. That said I still think this format was really interesting and a blast to watch. @matthewradabaugh1635
@matthewradabaugh1635 Жыл бұрын
Not true. A deck doesn’t need to be well rounded if it is so dominant in one area that its faults don’t matter. For example, the extreme would be a deck winning 100% of the time on the play and 20% on the draw (disregarding player skill, of course). This deck would have a 60% base winrate, which is astronomical. In fact, most decks favor the coinflip for this reason, as it provides them a base to work off of when it comes to play patterns and fine tuning.

Over this series, I was reminded of the difference between "best deck" and "winning deck". It was weird to look through the Worlds deck lists and see stuff like: - Astral Slide won the year Affinity was a thing - The Standard versions of Tinker and Rec-Sur were *terrible* - Caw-Blade was banned before Worlds 2011, so it never got a shot at being in the quest for the best - Worlds 2012 didn't feature Standard, and was instead Draft and Modern. 2013 was also Modern in the finals

That was a very entertaining series! Suggestion for a follow up: a tournament with every deck that came in second, and then have the ultimate grudge match between the winner of series 1 and 2.

Well, this gives me flashbacks from some FNM's where I tried to jank out my opponents with those decks with my new perspectives combo deck.

When this ends I'd love to see a "modern but with commander legal cards" series. Please Mr Carl Market it would be very cool.

Another cool video to follow this up might be taking all the experience you got and using it to do a tier ranking of the 28 decks you used, including the ones that didn't make it past the swiss and into the videos.
