I love old-school Yu-Gi-Oh! - I followed it up to the 5Ds/early XYZ era. I lost interest after the XYZ era. The game got too complex, cards became too powerful, combos became too long. I'd love to get back into it, but I feel the damage is already done - and you can't 'reverse' the game to a more enjoyable state.

Man, I played this game as a kid growing up, competitively from 2009 to 2014, even professionally commentated for the ARG Circuit Series and I NEVER once heard about this. Honestly astounding to continue learning new things about this batshit crazy children's card game (sometimes played on Motorcycles)

I have a FTK Blue-Eyes Exodia deck. It uses Blue-Eyes cards as resources for a draw engine. I don't play Yu-Gi-Oh anymore but whenever I'm sitting around doing nothing, I'll wipe it out and basically play Solitaire with myself. I use a lot of the original Exodia and Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards from the Bandai. It runs the 5 pieces of Exodia, 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragon, 1 Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon, 3 White Stone of Legend, 3 Cards of Consonance, 3 Toon Tables of Contents, 1 Royal Magical Library, 3 Trade-In.

There is no game. Exodia is the only card that can make you win before the game starts, it's known as a turn 0 kill. This happens during game prep when you draw your hand.

@@resphantom A turn 0 kill is to win on the opponent's turn during turn one. This can be done with Exodia. I'm not sure if it's possible in other ways in yugioh.

Oh, I get to be a turbo-nerd now! "If at any point during the game you have these 5 cards in your hand you automatically win the duel" This is technically incorrect, as exodia is only checked between chainlinks and applied effects. During a single effects resolution it is possible to have all 5 pieces of exodia in your hand and not win the game. For example, if you draw cards with Graceful Charity and have all 5 pieces in your hand, you don't win the duel until after you discard 2 cards. Regardless, awesome video, guys, keep it up!

@DavidsFeverDream Not quite. If the effect on Chain Llink 3 draws you exodia then does something else you win as soon as that something else resolves. The open game state occurs when the whole chain resolves and then both players pass on activating any effects in response to the chain.

@TwistedBOLT Okay I think I get it. If I have 4 pieces of Exodia and my opponent activates Talents to shuffle back 1 of the pieces, I can chain Jar of Greed, and if I draw the 5th piece of exodia, I win as soon as Jar of Greed resolves and Talents doesn't get to resolve. Is that right?

During the brief half-year to a year of popularity that YGO held in my school back in the day during the first seasons of the anime, not a single player ever managed to collect every single piece of Exodia. I believe I had 2 parts of it at most back in the day, before trading them away shortly before everyone kinda collectively lost interest in the card game. Me and the other nerds still into TCGs in concept instead got into MtG.

I had a shower thought the other day Since to my knowledge, there isn't a fleshed out canon source for Exodia lore and his place in the pantheon when compared to the other Egyptian gods, I came to the conclusion that what if Exodia is like the Kratos of Yugioh's Egyptian lore? He is arguably as strong as the gods--I'd argue perhaps even stronger given his win condition even if hypothetically the opponent has all 3 gods on their field Also given the fact he isn't divine beast type, he's simply a spellcaster, kinda like how Kratos was just a normal mortal man who climbed to the rank of God, and was a God slayer. I remember there was some appearance and mention of Exodia in the original yugioh's dawn of the duel season, but I don't remember to what extent Exodia's presence or aura was

This does remind me of what happened to me at a tournament once. I somehow drew all five Exodia parts on my first turn and the other kids accused me of cheating. I didn't cheat, but they refused to believe me and treated me like I was a worse man than Hitler. However, I took the Exodia pieces out of my deck the next week to help prove I was not a cheater. All of the other kids except for one believed me. That one guy still accused me of being a cheater and unfortunately, he took it to the extreme. He would tell every single person in the store that I was a cheater, even if they weren't there for the Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments, refused to let me shuffle my own deck when we got paired in a tournament round, and refused to listen to the concrete evidence that proved to everyone I was not a cheater. It was as if he was in full denial. He even staked on his very life that this theory of me being a cheater was 250% true even though it was not and it lasted for two years. I had to move to a different gaming store to play Yu-Gi-Oh just to get away from the jerk! I did return to that store six months later and it did seem like he was gone, but that guy was one nasty piece of work.
