Not trying to start harsh, just giving some advice. The rock in the tank while treating Ich can have it's issues. Treating any disease/parasite to be honest. It can absorb the medication and also the rock and sand bed can harbor/protect what you're trying to eliminate. What's even worse is what survives can end up resistant. There is Velvet and Ich that are Copper resistant now because of not taking proper precautions when quarantining. As for your Moorish Idol, it is beautiful, but the food you were showing, in my opinion, is inadequate for it's diet. Sponges are the main staple of it's diet and there are a lot of frozen foods (parasite free) that sponge is the main ingredient. They will eat clams and all the other foods, and they will live for a year or two, but then they'll just croak. They don't do a great job of showing you that they're malnourished. They look great but a necropsy of a diseased one can show you just how bad they actually were. Not knocking you or anything, they're a tough fish, but I also want to see your success with it longer than 2 years! I hope you take this note constructively. I also recommend pairing them off. They'll do much better in a pair as well.

Hay no worries I've been around the reef block for sometime. The idol is doing great in my reef tank. He get all the spunges and extra lps and some zoas to fill his diet. My corals and spungs grow fast enough to where it sustain him with my feeding. Also i don't qt with Copper. I think its to harsh. I instead use a 5-7 week hyposalinity qt. I rearlly use medication. Hyposalinity is a 100% guaranteed way of killing ich and velvet. And a plus i can reuse the rock. Which i did it in my sump waiting till im ready to add new fish for another qt.

Need better water circulation… is that all the filtration you have .. do you have a power head or wave maker? I would think the fish would over heat with no flow

LoL. I think your missing the hang on back filter behind me and like I said in the start of the video I was getting ready for a water change and I turned off the flow.

unfortunately at the two year mark my tank sitter did a massive water change with a different salt mix. For some reason it had a bad effect. literally over night the fish went from swimming to hiding and passed two days later. It was odd because It was from the same company but the one I use was the reef version and the other salt mix was the regular fish mix. Think it was just a shock to the fish going from reef specific salt to plain aquarium fish salt. I blame myself for leaving that bag of salt accessible.

@@YohanM99 new mixed salt water contains ammonia. Fish would be the first to be affected. You said it lived two years though
@YohanM99
@YohanM99 23 күн бұрын
@@TheJohnny220 Yes it lived two year and was twice the size as compared to when got it. I used to watch the fish on Camera when i was out of town. I currently have another one in my new 190 gallon tank and it is almost at the two year mark since I've had it. they are not that hard to keep once you get there diet in check and give them alot of swim room.

You have to break up the aggression by keeping them in a large shoal in a large 800 gallon tank. Pablo Tepoot has demonstrated his success with keeping moorish idols this way. Also in the wild they naturally school together. They are broadcast spawners at dawn on the reef. They should never be kept and confined to small aquariums. They will not survive in such small confines. They feed on sponges and tunicates on the reef, so provide a sponge based diet such as large angelfish formula and new life spectrum pellets.

New life spectrum pellets by Pablo Tepoot is a great food for Moorish idols.

Yeah... It just not sustain them long term, no pellets will do. Nothing like making gelatin fish food in a blender. Bob Fenner's recipe is a killer one!

@@YohanM99 then I stand corrected. You need at least a 220 Gallon. As you know the Moorish IDol needs a vast amount of swimming space! With other fish even a 120 Is not enough but hey happy reefing buddy!
