Thanks for being so honest about how you’re feeling about some of your plants. I absolutely hate a few of mine, but I’m not throwing them out or handing the problem off to someone else! I’ve invested time and money into them, just like my children! I can’t give them away either!😂

I feel pretty confident in my growing of philodendrons & i agree with basically everything. I found the same things when it comes to making good mixes & dealing with pests. It seems like so many people online are scared of adding sphagnum to their plants.

_Thaumatophyllum_ ‘Hope’ or ‘Selloum’ is the one most people seem to want to have in their homes! But they’re huge. I live in California, & they’re massive no matter if they’re in or outdoors… in our yard, we have one that is 8’ tall x 15’ wide x 6’ deep against a wall! Multiple trunks and heads. We used to play in it as kids, and I’m 37 now. That means the thing is over 40 years old!! What’s cool though; the genus also includes the mini ‘Xanadu’, even though ppl call it “Philodendron Xanadu” it’s actually an endemic Brazilian dwarf form of ‘Hope’ - I forgot the actual taxonomic name, lol. ‘Xanadu’ is still a “tree” with a trunk, albeit mini, though it doesn’t really exceed 3-4 feet high. Each leaf that falls off exposes an “eye” or leaf node. I have seen it growing over ten feet across though. They’re like a tree-rambler. Probably my favorite.

Wow! Philodendron are my very favorites. They don’t tend to give me much trouble at all. I just bought a giganteum blizzard Saturday. I haven’t had many pests probably because they head for my Alocasia. 🤣

I love my 2 vareigated hooziwhatsits....because they both have beautiful flowers that have a delightful scent. Im talking about my var. sedum seiboldi.. and crassula morgana. Both are succulents. Since becoming an avid gardener, inside and out over 20 yrs, im much more careful about what plants I grow from seed or cuttings. I think you would literally pass out, if you saw the size and beauty of my red congo philo....its taking over my lounge but i just cant say goodbye to it. (8 yrs old) You make the world smile with you😊 Jo.

Hi, Nick. What a mouthful that was! But so true, and needed to be said! Never thought about growth patterns, I just got caught up the way a plant looked, etc. Gee, I thought I was the only one feeling that way. That being said, there are a few plants (more than a few) I would have never purchased if I had put more thought into it. Better late than never! Thank you, so much.😉 Hi, Muffin!

Great video. Such a good point about those less common versions being pest magnets. My common ones were fine but I had to get fancy 😂 Totally understand the advice that you wish you hadn’t invested in some of the ones you did, because now they have a place in your heart and you wish they didn’t 💚 I’ve had to start over too and I do find it frustrating that some grow in ways that aren’t attractive. People share pics from specific angles that look great but I like plants that look great at different angles.

I started with orchids, then added succulents and cacti, only after a few years did i start getting interested in popular tropical houseplants, because i had always heard they were divas and i have too much of that with the orchids. I recently fell in love with philodendrons and im trying to resist the urge to get many. This video gave me a lot of good reasons not to go crazy so thank you!! I have the pink princess and a berkin, i still really want a brasil and one of the funky leaved ones lol. Im easy to please, and I dont belive in spending too much on plants (its a hobby not my career lol and they can always die).

I really liked the advice about sticky plants. I have small children with already sticky hands & animals in my home. I don't think I'd really love having 2 wash them more than usual & the plant leaves every day. I do want large lush plants but I think I'll avoid the 'sticky' plants. Thank u 4 the great tips! 🤎LOVE UR CHANNEL❣

You should make a mixture of garlic and water and let that sit overnight. Then filter out the garlic and with a cotton pad wipe your leaves of your plants. Let that sit for a few seconds and then wipe it off. It will repel insects and pests!

My mother has a heart leaf Philo. And that plant is around 35 years old. That guy got to 15ft tall. I recall it never having a pest problem but it was such a large plant. If there was one. It would be hard to find it. My mother a few years ago pruned the plant and took of 14ft to get it able to move out with her. She regrets trimming it. But she donated all the starts to the church. It produced a countless number of them

This is my first video of yours and as a new crazy plant lady who loves philos I found this soo helpful! I found 2 new (verrucosum and melanochrysum) philos today and I’ve had so much fun making the soil and repotting them into my planters! I do have a question though- fertilizing… I purchased dynagrow grow liquid plant food today and I’m trying to get all of the info that I can. Also, do you water right after repotting? I’ve heard to wait a day or two but I’ve just gotten into bottom watering so I watered right after I repotted. I feel so lost but it’s so fun to figure it out!😂 I’m going to binge some more of your videos now!

Philodendron Micans. I never had any issues with it. Not any visable pests. No over or underwatering issues. No propagation isues. No placement issues. It's my number one right now and I keep chopping it and make more of it until I don't know what to do with it.

other than the heart leaf I have in my kitchen, the philodendrons in my collection are self-heading. I just love a big bushy house plant and the good windows in my home don't have great trellis space. As much as I admire them, I must resist the urge to maximize the jungle vibe 🌿

Keeping plants outside checks pests out somehow. It is when cold period gets set, they eventually would reign back. Thus, spring comes helpful to fight them once again just by moving out.
