Hello Mathew and thank you for showing us this video of some of your plants. May I also thank you for your very generous shout-out of my channel which could have been applicable some 6 years ago. I have been cutting back on my Paphiopedilums to lessen my working load. The Phragmipediums are still my slipper loves and, although cutting back on these as well,, I have kept about twenty for myself. I thoroughly liked your video especially the commentary!! A dear friend of mine visited his daughter in Melbourne and visited the Oorchid Society I think on more than one occasion. I don't know if you go to their meetings but Bill was over 90years old when he visited but unfortunately he passed away last week. Thank you once again Mathew and take care, Ed.

Thank you Ed - I love you're videos - so knowledgeable! The orchid groups here have all had to close down for the last two years basically so I'm hoping to get to some meetings next year. Thank you again for watching! Matthew

Hi Matthew, thanks for all the info presented in a lovely easy manner, as usual. I did some research on besseae when I bought mine and watched a video showing a nursery growing them and apparently they grow very close to running water and are always wet so I run fresh water through each day, slightly acidic as you say and very good quality. They hate salt build up. Keep up the videos, thanks again 😊

Thanks for finding me again! And commiserations on being in lock-down. I think Melbourne had the dubious honour of the longest lockdown in the world! Not fun - but it did provide a GREAT excuse for orchid shopping online!
@annareiter9522 жыл бұрын
@@helloplantlovers Online-shopping YESSS!!! but my current Birthday/Christmas-order from a vendor in Germany is .... somewhere. No movement in the trackinginfo since Wednesday and its cold too. Well, what can you do in times like this. I bought a Paph. farrieanum just recently (also with delay in delivery before the current lockdown by the way its the 4th) so the carecollab was quite handy, The good thing is that i finally found it but the bad thing is that Ed killed it already twice and he told me it is a verrry slow grower. And when Ed says that it has to be true. Stay safe and happy growing, stay safe and I'm going to bed now. 😘

Hi, loved you video, it is very interesting to see them grown in terracotta pots. I'm in New Zealand and mostly have access to seedlings more than larger plants. I've only been growing Paphs for 3 years and have a few Phrags that are very hard to find here.
@helloplantlovers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching mine! Yes, mostly seedlings here too and not many Phrags either.

I bought 1 phrag last summer, now winter 23, there are two new plans, I am not sure if these young plans can have similar fertiliser as their siblings?Thanks

If they are new fans growing from the base of the original - then yes - I'd treat them as one plant with the same care. Good luck!

May I ask where you purchased the Cypripedium from? 😊
@helloplantlovers2 жыл бұрын
Yes - from lynnsrareplants.com.au/index.php - she rarely has Cypripedium so the best bet is to subscribe to her newsletter and don't hang about! She generally releases small batches of various plants autumn/winter/spring.

@helloplantlovers Жыл бұрын
Hi there - this video should give you the basic care instructions! Repot them every couple of years into a pot that will just take the root system. Good luck!
@sue50612 жыл бұрын
Matthew I was wondering do you have any trouble with the roots of the orchids sticking to the terracotta sides if so how do you deal with them?
@helloplantlovers2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue - sometimes - I soak the whole pot in room temp water for at least or so before trying to re-pot. Usually softens them and allows them to un-stick!

Can you please share a source for the clippers from Shanghai?
@helloplantlovers2 жыл бұрын
I bought mine at a rare plant fair in country Victoria - always a good source of unusual plants - no guarantee there's orchids at such things though! Other wise try www.nickysslippers.com/ , darkstarorchids.com.au/ for species or ebay.
