You do not become a lawyer in the UK. You become a lawyer in England and Wales or Scotland or Northern Ireland. There are three separate jurisdictions with different legal systems. The system in England is based on common law. The university courses and training are completely different too. The Scottish system is a hybrid of civil and common law taking its roots from Roman Law. Some lawyers will dual qualify so they can work in more than one system but that is very unusual.

You mean in England. There are three legal systems in the UK. There are no barristers in Scotland which is part of the UK with its own separate and completely different legal system.

You can go from college to university. University is required because it’s where you get more qualifications that will allow you to be a lawyer
