Lovely couple! It is a little amusing though to imagine the Chinese kids they teach coming out their classes with that Irish accent. Oh by the way, Nanjing is a MAJOR city in China, with 10 million people and historical significance. It is also the capital city of one of China's most economically developed provinces. Compared with Shanghai and Beijing, Nanjing's quality of life is higher and the cost of living is lower, it is kind of a hidden gem for foreigners who are in the know. It is really one of my favorite cities in China.

Nanjing is the best city to represent both ancient and modern China! The 2nd biggest city in eastern China, after Shanghai. I would conclude that it is a city that mixes North and South China. One can access any cuisines from all parts of China in Nanjing. It's a must-see city to explore real Chinese history and culture and absolutely gorgeous scenery!!

In China it is part of the VISA requirement to have a degree. There are people who work without one but I'd advise against it. Plenty of other places to work such as Cambodia and Vietnam without a degree.

Just because you can't afford the consumption price in Shanghai or the real mall's in Nanjing, that doesn't give you the reason of randomly accusing the local trying to charge you a "foreign premium price", there are plenty Chinse pay the real price for quality stuff.

the reason why shanghai is expensive is not there are many foreign, just because shanghaiese income is high....
@alee22047 жыл бұрын
The funny part is this couple keep saying the "local price" for face saving, which should be translated into "low price", that is for poor foreigners and Chinese at or below the lower middle class on the economic ladder. The rest middle class in Nanjing don't go to the underground mall, because of the shitty quality. Their either shop in the real mall, or shop on-line! The middle-class Nanjing Chinese is probably richer than the average of Irish people!
@truezyf7 жыл бұрын
u have no idea about local price and tour price, right?
@alee22047 жыл бұрын
@Gear5 ZF your comment should go to the teaching couple.
@alee22047 жыл бұрын
Frankly speaking, this couple bring shame to the common honest Irish people due to their insecurity and bigotry, telling people that Shanghai and Nanjing malls are expensive since the foreigners go there, and sounds like locals only go for the underground "local price"? It is the most ridiculous comment I learned about China this year.
@alee22047 жыл бұрын
The truth is majority foreign English teachers are not in the high-income bracket in China and don't pretend you still living in a colonial era.
@hanzhang10687 жыл бұрын
As a Nanjinger I agree with you, but i dont think they were tring to 'save face'. People just naturally think from their own perspective, its quite normal.

Teachers get more respect from students and parents in China compare to the states. i wonder how much are they making though
@CareerChina6 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for checking out the video. An average salary for teachers in China varies based on the city (USD $2200 - $2900 monthly take home)
@TheSunshineRequiem6 жыл бұрын
thank you for the info, thats lower than the salaries in the states right? though with lower requirements to teach English, probably doesn't require a college degree right?
@CareerChina6 жыл бұрын
It is lower than salaries in the states, but the cost of living in China is way lower than that in America. Bills are less, food costs less, etc. So you can actually save money in the bank of an ESL Teachers salary. To be able to teach English in China and acquire the correct working visa you do need to have a college degree.
@TheSunshineRequiem6 жыл бұрын
oh yeah, does the school offer free housing? or some kind cheap housing for teachers? do you have to pay taxes to the states when you earn salaries in China?
@CareerChina6 жыл бұрын
Some schools we were with offer free housing and some if not most offer housing allowances. It is really based on the school. You can talk with your recruiter about what each school is offering. As far paying taxes goes, you will have to follow the guidelines for your country in paying taxes. If you are still a citizen you will stay have to pay your share of taxes, but your school will be able to help you with getting all the proper documents so you can file your taxes in your home country. Hope that helps answer your questions. Thanks!
