I've lived over a year in Nanjing now and it's a beautiful city to reside in. Few things I could add on to the narrative - Airbnb is affordable for tourists, the city is filled with universities hence the youth and international students' (like myself) population is comparatively high, Laomendong is a great place to visit around, Xinjiekou is like the heart of the city, fuzimiao is a nice place to travel to. If you have a tent (or you could rent one) - purple mountain has a breathtaking sunrise.

Matt DuBois that's so exciting what will you be doing there? There are loads of great areas to live in don't worry. If you are working you will easily be able to find some good accommodation. Its a really easy city to get around and to travel to other places. I'm sure you will have a great time!

Aww thank you thats so kind. I was the same before I went to Nanjing researching loads of areas and things but its very difficult until you get there. My school put me in a centre so I ended up getting a place near by so it was convenient for work when I started early. Luckily there was some great things around it and it was also right by a metro station so I could easily get into the centre. The good thing about Nanjing is everything goes to the central part so no matter where are you are in the city its easy to get to the centre. Didi's are also super cheap for taxis home!

The porcelain tower museum is built over the original site preserving and maintaining some of the original structures and grounds. The walk-through is a bit of a historical+/modern wonderland mixed bag. It's really close to the art district too.

@@OscarWrightZenTANGO try to find out some foreign teachers there,ask them which school is better(cos some schools and angencies are pressing teacher's salary and rights)... so if you wanna a happy life in china, god school and angency are necessary

Nico No actually, but I live in a small city very near to Nanjing. The architecture styles are very similar. I grew up surrounded by ancient architectures like that. Hi, that's awesome you are thinking about moving to China, what are you planning on doing here? I lived in Nanjing for just over a year and I loved it. It's a big city but there is a lot of nature surrounding it so it's really beautiful. I also thought it was a great location as there are lots of good cities near by to travel too. I haven't been to Chengdu yet but I've heard it is also a great place. I currently live in Beijing so I have a few Beijing videos available I love it here but it is also very busy. I'm sure there are lots of options available for your hobbies here but I'm not really sure as I don't practice in them myself. If you were wanting a more relaxed lifestyle then Beijing may not be the best option but its hard to say to be honest.

@@katMFpugs Well both of those are great cities and there are lots of things to do. To be honest I think wherever you end up I'm sure you will enjoy. It really depends on your goals for whilst you are in China. Beijing and Shanghai are both very cosmopolitan and have lots of ex-pats and also a higher cost of living. That being said there is also a lot more to do and wages are usually higher. In some second-tier cities, the cost of living is cheaper and also you get a more authentic experience. Well, that is difficult as I used to live in Nanjing so I will always prefer it as I know it better. I think both are interesting in their own way it depends what you were wanting from a city. Both are very liveable with lots to do.

Alexander Daniel - I'm not going to lie to you people do stare a lot here, but I would call it simple curiosity. I get a bit of attention being a silver-haired white girl and I feel like if people are curious then the best way to respond is positively. Nanjing is a pretty modern city, but even if you went to another part of China where the local people have not had the opportunity to interact with people of other ethnicities then if you smile and are friendly then people will have a good impression of you regardless of what you look like. This advice goes for whatever your ethnicity, people look different and it is only through communication and interaction that you can break down barriers! Going back to your original question, I would say that as a whole China is going through a lot of social change and people are on the whole a lot more open to people from different cultures than they were previously (exactly the same as the UK).

@@Nicofilms Not as much as you probably. It was in the 90s, quite boring student live. But I was a good student which earned me a scholarship to the US, the country was regarded being Heaven for every Chinese at the time.😉😉
