As a Data Analyst my self i can confirm that this is pretty much about what I do. Usually the tasks are not as clean cut as shown here. E.g. do you sometimes realize a problem in the data while creating a report and go back to the datatransformation. But this shows perfectly what the general tasks of a Data Analyst are!

As I'm an introvert, one thing that I'm worried about is the communicantion skill. I heard many data analysts mentioned that it is so important to have a *strong communication *. Yeah!! It's truth that a word of strong makes me nervous. In addition , as English is not my first language, and I'm not the one who can or likes using a high level words like business terms or talking sound like a professional. Therefore, how can I overcome this kind of thoughts before I graduate ?

I was one too, just start talking to people. Could just be random stuff on your head, in time you’ll be comfortable enough
@radio.silence Жыл бұрын
1) Practice. I feel your pain, but this is necessary. You won't know if your communication level is good enough if you don't talk to people. 2) When you speak, focus on getting your point across as best as you can and don't criticise yourself in the process. Don't know big words? Use the ones you know to explain what you mean. This is a skill too. The goal is to not get stuck. For me, I get stuck when I start judging my grammar or pronunciation, trying to speak perfect English. 3) Add 'English conversation' to your skill list. Treat it as just another skill, like SQL or python, that you have to improve in order to land a job or progress in your career. That's all it is! You can absolutely have strong communication skills as an introvert. I think you can practice in your native language too - being concise, unambiguous, respectful, all that stuff.

Can you just talk Normal as a data analyst? It seems like you guys speak in a way that is unnecessarily complicated. Things I would like to know tho is what is an example of the process? The business ask you what? Like do they ask “how many sales we had in October and what’s the age range?”. And you use your skill to find that out in python? What is the meaning of using these programs? Why must you use code? Why aren’t there wysiwyg programs where the business can input the data already? I’m tryna understand the reasoning.

Got a question for ya. Do you think companies would hire someone new to the data analytics field, if all they had was a certification? I’m going through a massive career shift from education to data analytics. And I’m currently enrolled in the Google Analytics program. So, do you think simply understanding basics at beginner levels such as simple SQL, queries, spreadsheets, and basic coding functions and formulas could land you a junior position?
@hs632 жыл бұрын
I'm leaving education for data analytics too! From what I've heard (online & from data analysts I've met in person) is you definitely need to know Excel, a good deal of SQL, and then one way of showing visuals of what you've learned -- Power BI, Tableau, R, etc. The thing they care about is seeing what you can do. So before you apply put together a project showing your skills. You don't need to know everything, but they need to see you've got a good foundation to learn for whatever role you're going to fill.
@frothylube4912 жыл бұрын
@@hs63 Thank you! I’ve been trying to figure out what to do in terms of sending out resumes and applications once I get done with my certification. I’ve been taking time to learn SQL, I’m about to start learning R and Python, and then I’ll be getting into visualization. My mentality is teach myself as much as I can and get a company to give me a shot and help me learn more.

I do strongly disagree with the code language aspect. If you still have managed to learn 3 code languages, and speak several languages on top of that, you shouldn't be obliged to learn new ones. There are plenty of companies here that will be more than happy to hire you, especially if these 3 languages are well-known and widely used. Companies should definitely stop asking too much to their employees.
