Hello, Thank you for your message. Becoming a train driver is extremely challenging and there are lots of things to consider when being a train driver. Great attention to detail, awareness, and concentration are extremely important, and you need to be able to maintain each of these for a very long time. As well as driving the train, you'll have a number of customer service responsibilities. You'll also make sure their safety is paramount at all times, reacting quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and reporting incidents wherever necessary. For more information on becoming a train driver in Australia, please check out the following link - www.how2become.com/australia/train-driver/

Hello, I would state something along the lines of - 'Whilst I have been extremely passionate to become a trainee train driver, I believe my first attempt really opened my eyes up to what is expected of me. I now believe that I have taken on everything that was mentioned before, and have improved not only my knowledge, but my skills and qualities to enhance my performance. I underestimated the complexity and demand this job entails, and I now feel that I am truly ready to start my career as a trainee train driver'. You will need to demonstrate how you are a better candidate now then you were previously. It is okay to say that you realise you weren't ready for the demand previously, as long as you clarify that you have taken every step to ensure that you are ready for the role now! I hope this helps. :)

There are currently man ExPats from U.K. driving trains in Australia. Companies here spend very little funding on training anyone for this task. They'd rather pirate them from somewhere else. The heavy rail industry in Western Australia has many such Ex Pats working for them hauling the Iron ore fleets around. The state Government in W.A. also picks up such Ex Pats to operate the local suburban system. Freight is normally privately operated. Be prepared to spend long periods driving interstate if you win a job with the interstate haulers. These guys live on board for three days traveling from West to East, 24 hr turn around, then come back, that's their weeks work. Not conducive to a stable relationship with the opposite sex and/or kids.

@ianashburn96238 жыл бұрын
what could you say if they ask you why you want to become a train driver
@CareerVidz7 жыл бұрын
I'd respond by saying that I wanted a challenging, customer-focused role that relies on a high degree of safety awareness and concentration. I would then provide details of where I have worked in a previous role that had these types of attributes and that I really enjoyed working in that type of environment. I would then provide details of how I enjoy working in a role that has a requirement to be flexible and responsible and also state how I enjoy working under pressure and also where I would be required to learn new skills and update existing ones. It is important to be honest at all times in your response. You should also, where possible, provide 'evidence' of where you have carried out certain tasks and demonstrated certain skills in a previous job-related role. If your blood sugar levels are being managed properly, there's nothing to stop you. However do consider that shift work and meal times are very irregular and could interfere with your management. In my case, I always had something to eat at regular meal times, whether I was on a break or not. That helped a lot. It also helps with your weight control, as eating a crib meal at 0200 hrs in the morning buggers up your cardian rythm cycles, also your sleep cycles also get a hammering. Try getting enough sleep in the middle of the day when your neighbor fires up the lawn mower.

Asad, save your money, in the future there will be no such thing as a train driver. they will be driven by A.I. In fact my son currently works for such a group right now, who have automated all their trains to be run by A.I. 36 thousand tonnes, 21/2 kilometers long, three, sometimes four locos hauling the lot, from mine to port (400 + K's) with 10 minutes between trains. Problem ? Despite being operated by A.I. when things go pearshaped, as they often do, Drivers are called out to fix things and get wheels rolling again. So a minimum amount of drivers are kept on the job.

I am from India. I got PR in Australia my dream is to become a train driver. Am mechanical engineer completed my engineering from India. How can I become a train driver in Australia what are the qualifications.
@itchyvet4 жыл бұрын
Australia is a BIG country, it consists of States and Territories, which each have their own rail system. The cities have Suburban systems catering for the local areas, and in some cases Rural/regional areas. Some are still State owned and operated , whilst others have been sold off and are privately owned and operated. The perway, or rails are still state owned thought contracted out to private companies to run. State run suburban/regional areas may still be state operated and applications should be submitted to state transport authorities. Private freight companies need to be approached directly. All systems are supposed to overseen by the Federal Rail Transport Safety body who write and amend the operating rules everyone is obliged to comply with. Be warned though, IMHO a fellow with qualifications as you say you have, would be far better employed in the engineering aspect of these systems then simply a Driver. B.T.W. you could also apply to the Mining companies in W.A.'s Pilbara where they operate the heavy iron ore trains, I suspect with your qualifications you may have better luck there. Though keep in mind, those jobs are FIFO currently. That means Fly In and Fly out. You work for a period of time on site/living there/eat/sleep, then when your time's up, fly back to your home for a period agreed upon on your employment, then fly back and repeat.

Hi i applied for Trainee train guard from Australia you have any information about online assesment
@CareerVidz7 жыл бұрын
Hi Gagan, We have an Australian specific page here for train driver. It may not be exactly the same, but we cover the assessment centre with practice tests which may be similar for a train guard: www.how2become.com/australia/train-driver/ Hope it helps! The How2Become Team

@@CareerVidz Not entirely accurate. Each State has different criteria, for example a Queensland Driver would require a familarisation process and learning the routes before being allowed to drive. Then there are the Locomotives, which in many cases are similar but different layouts to learn. Signaling is also similar but not the same Australia wide. Train Guards we no longer have in W.A, though I'm aware they still have them in NSW, in W.A. we have Security personel patrolling the suburban system responding to calls. There are always vacancies being offered in the later category.

The reality is, whilst it is claimed in this video safety and rules are a priority, it is also a sad fact, many times Managers will demand you OVER RIDE BOTH, to satisfy something they wish to achieve. When you stand your ground and point out you cannot do what they are asking as it contravenes the rules and is unsafe, you are branded as a hard case and not team member. Of course when you end up in the Coroners Court, he will tell you, it was YOUR duty to abide by the rules, despite being labeled as a non team member by management. Of course management is never brought to account for their behaviour, unless you have got a strong Union.

Hi, do you need good GCSE results to apply?
@CareerVidz8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, thanks for your message. As a general rule, you do not need GCSEs to become a train driver. However, good grades can help, especially if there are lots of people applying for the same job. Having said that, there are numerous tests involved during the selection process, so you must ensure you practice for these before the tests/assessment day. You can get more information at the website www.TrainDriver.org. I hope that helps, Richard

Your GCSEs won't even come in to it unless you're very young.

Craig G It’s funny, because schools say GCSE are vital to get jobs, but what’s more important is your passion and willingness to learn is what most employers are looking for.

@@CareerVidz Hey Richard, I'm 16 now, and still returning to your videos for advice :) Over the past couple of years, I've been studying engineering at school, and have been volunteering at a heritage railway, which both included working in a workshop and operating heavy machinery. Would you consider this to be sufficient evidence of being safety conscious and being able to follow rules and procedures? Thank you.

Ok I'm only 13 but I have a few questions of being a engineer, honestly my favorite is the es44c4 bnsf. When you are applying for the job, what's the process. I know I'm only 13 but I already have talked to a bnsf worker due to my experiences with train simulator and oddly realistic simulators, I'm very good at it but my question it if you apply for the job would you be assigned a train due to your skills that your used to? or do you pick it.
