They are Cheering at Ye Olde Mucky Duck, when Demolition Davey cracks the lot. Detritus is his Midas Touch, when the wiz-bang bangs the granite rock and rock 'em sock 'em now they're dust. So it's always the devil-to-pay when Demoliton Dave blasts away!

Your video work has a nice flow. There's nothing tedious in what's presented. You don't have to say a lot about what you're doing and quite a bit is left to the viewer to suss out what's being done. Again, not everybody making a video about anything is capable of this. @@demolitiondavedrillandblast

I kept thinking, why doesn't Dave wear a tool pouch instead of putting the tape and knife and stuff in his pockets all the time, so inefficient. It's like you heard me thinking about it and talked about fishing stuff out of the blast holes. Too funny. Thanks Dave always entertaining.

I don’t get tired of watching this channel, it’s oddly soothing - mostly. It is also a good reminder to me (who has been lucky enough to never live near a war) how brutal it must be to be near shells landing… But mostly it is fascinating, and satisfying! Thanks for making such good videos while you work!

That's a fair old dose on ANFO you had to use. Must've needed a tuck load to do all those holes. Another occasion where a thumb on the excavator would have made the clearing up easier. Those polaroids are an unusual find, as is them not being long turned to mush.

Apart from time needed for drilling, watching you set charges reminds me that that is in itself pretty time consuming - predictably with a trenching job! Nice view down the hole. Presume the pour on top of emulsion was ANFO. How nice if you were able to just add stemming and not have to bother with cover, just to keep the neighbors happy. Great slo-mos again. One heck of a lot of trenching and a PITA when damp in holes! Fascinating find with the polaroids! Another great video Dave, thanks. :)
@demolitiondavedrillandblast
@demolitiondavedrillandblast 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching Chris, the down side of working with large diameter holes is that they each take 3/4 of a big bucket of crushed rock stemming on top of the charge, and that is hard work. De watering of wet holes really sucks as you always seem to get covered in slop.

Big drill Ben ?? Sounds like you are getting your monies worth, and that is really good. The next part of the drilling machine to break might be your back,..and we absolutely cannot have that. Maybe you could mount that man killer drill on lift, the type with a man work basket hydraulicly operated. That type of machine is called a " Zoom Boom,in Idaho and it has hydraulic controls down on the side of the machine chassis. in addition to controls up in the basket, and used but not to worn machines can be found pretty cheap.. You wouldnt even have to be in the basket to operate the zoom boom and the drill., maybe you can get away with using the longer drill steel to start with instead of using short steels to start, and then switch over, from short to long ., install some hydraulics and solenoids and some of those zoom booms have 75 feet of extendable boom. You could possibly mount that drill on the man basket, and reach places to drill you couldn't before, without straining yourself.... I might take a little of that horse paste myself, if needed and find just a little about the size of a pinto bean for 3days works great. . But I would never take anything denied by the medical docs . It might kill my pet tapeworm or something.............

Looklng good, those new Volvos are great, what happened to the blade on it ? Any holes are a magnet for phones and keys etc, was only last year and I dont't often take my phone off its leash but I had to do some calculations, I was standing near a pier hole about 5 metres deep, it had water and mud at the bottom,,, well guess what my 1800 dollar phone decided it was time to slip out of my hand and aim itself right down the hole, I tried to fish it out with wire and other various methods but all failed, so I dropped the auger in and gave it a gentle quarter turn at the bottom, well I was half lucky, the phone came out undamaged and was still working but it soon shut down as it had been under water for too long.

I'll bet that little camera overheats. But man, does it do a good job for under $20k. The toning and AF while inspecting boreholes, hand-held, was impressive. I hope you find ways of keeping it cool (white cloth cover, leaving the connector ports open, thin copper tape on the card/heatsink, whatever you have to do). Take care, and thank you :)
@demolitiondavedrillandblast
@demolitiondavedrillandblast 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for noticing #42, Some users have complained that it overheats and turns off when doing 4K/120 duty. The user manual says 15 minutes max or something. The real test will be in the summertime when it has been cooking in the car prior to use. Might have to pack it in the insulated box with my lunch. I'm currently using it at 40Mbs maximum bitrate, which is OK until I pan quickly, can do as much as 600Mbs but that introduces new problems.
@gth042
@gth042 7 ай бұрын
If you have it in a cage, a piece of thin plastic and a 1/4-20 bolt makes a nice shade. I don't know that model specifically, but if you're using CFExpress cards, there's usually enough clearance to put thin copper tape on either side and leave it sticking out of the door (works as a pull tab too). Turn off the screen, any unnecessary AF/exposure AI, wifi, bt, etc.... To find the lowest power/heat configuration, I use a USB current meter and start turning things off. Once the battery is topped off, you'll be seeing "only" what the camera needs for that operation/configuration. I wish camera makers would use a heat pipe and a copper pad on the bottom so the tripod can soak up the heat, but oh well. Anyway, I hope some of the rambling gets the ideas flowing. Best of luck, Sir, and I hope you have an enjoyable week..

Demo Dave!! I have recently been introduced to something called "Auto Stem" and I was wondering what you thought of them. Apparently they are not HE, but rather low order stuff. I read that the dets are nitrocellulose. They explode in a lot different manner. There is not a huge overpressure and the dets sound like "THUMPS." They do not require stemming or the like. You simply jam them in the holes. Do you have any thoughts on them?
@demolitiondavedrillandblast
@demolitiondavedrillandblast 7 ай бұрын
Auto stem does break rocks and are a useful product in countries where no license is required. Good for making nice strait line splits and breaking oversize with minimal flyrock. very noisy when you use them without stemming. Good where the transport and storage requirements are less restrictive than 1.1D products. Not good in fractured ground, Not good where you require a lot of smashing power, e.g. shots with no free face. Lot of claims about much lower vibration than H.E. that I have not been able to confirm, in my testing I have seen similar vibration measurements for harder to dig out result.
@demolitiondavedrillandblast
@demolitiondavedrillandblast 5 ай бұрын
Sorry TG, took me a while to get back to this question. Auto Stem is clever in that it self seals - provided that the hole is exactly the right size, they are very noisy however, it has been suggested to me that you are better off adding stemming to get the noise down a bit. These products seem to be most popular with people who have never used real H.E. They do break rocks but not much good in broken or heavily faulted ground.

HI Dave ! 🙂 A few questions. 1. Why did you use a down-the-hole det and surface connector instead of just a single EZ-dets? Is it cuz it's what you had on hand? 2. What timing did you use for the down the hole det and surface connectors? 3. What diameter holes did your friend drill? 4. That is a big ANFO pitcher. What size pitcher is that when full? Thanks!!!!

Hi Dan, it was a case of what my supplier had in stock. Down hole is 400ms and surface is 17 or 25ms. Holes are 76mm and the scoop is 1 liter.

We got her started on it very quickly before she was having symptoms and I think that medication and catching very early saved her. I was only sick the first 2 days which I started the medication the first day so I think I was lucky as well. My 19 year old son hardly was sick just like a cold. Glad you're well. 👍

I’ve got one on my hydraulic teaspoon here in Tasmania. I’m NOT a professional operator, but just use it for general farm tasks like managing our constant issues with dead/dying trees, dropped branches etc (eucalypts are always dropping branches), burying dead livestock or roadkill from nearby roads, etc. The thumb makes some jobs possible that would otherwise not be, and significantly speeds up other jobs, especially on a smaller machine.

So what happens if you do find unexploded charges?
@demolitiondavedrillandblast
@demolitiondavedrillandblast 7 ай бұрын
Thankfully this is not a common occurrence, if it should happen all other works nearby stop and the focus shifts to making the site safe. A careful search must be made and all explosives must be recovered or made safe by re priming and firing in location. That is the short story, usually means a lot of spade work.

I like the use of what look like kids traffic cones for funnels and the fact that all the bits of rubbish go down the hole, Is the white powder you pour down on top of the knockwurst on a string more anfo? Apart from obvious flying material does the covering of earth improve the blast?, I feel like it holds it down and forces it back into the rock a bit? Also I can't help wondering what it would be like to sit on top of that lot on a plywood board....I have a feeling it would break bones and do all sorts of damage to internal organs ....so probably the dumbest idea ever but you know sometimes the thought just kinda .....well knowledge is knowledge right

why dont you use rubber mats over the holes? isnt it more annoying to keep filling over the holes then having you digg it avay?
@demolitiondavedrillandblast
@demolitiondavedrillandblast 7 ай бұрын
I have a heap of light weight blast mats, but I need to bring them to the job on a truck which costs money, the soil is already there and I can do much bigger shots than I would if I only used blast mats. The soil also gives a higher level of protection and cuts the noise down drastically where the mats do little for the noise. The blast noise brings complaints and spectators that I don't need. Another bonus of using soil is that I no longer spend my weekends repairing blast mats.
