In this final part 5 of 5 video series flying the Carenado Hawker 850XP we pick up our flight from Yakutat to Kenai, Alaska on the final phase of descent, approach, and landing at PAEN. This part includes managing the FMS (or is it managing me?), intercepting the ILS, and landing procedures. Not every system is modeled perfectly, however, we do have enough functionality to fly the airplane with a reasonable level of realism.
BONUS VIDEO We will be producing a bonus video (coming soon) flying the 850XP using the Flight1 version of the Garmin GTN750 touch screen navigator in lieu of the Collins MFD and FMS. Vast improvement over the Carenado avionics modeling!! Stay tuned for a fun flight to Dutch Harbor Alaska!!!
The Carenado version of the Hawker is available at www.carenado.com Scenery is all Orbx. Please refer to our Channel's "about" tab for more information on or Flight Sim Rig and software specs.
Climb aboard, buckle-up, and enjoy the flight!! Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

rephor Thanks much rephor! I appreciate your feedback. I try to pack a lot of information in these series, however, going forward, I will try to use more "Parts" to allow for shorter videos. I broke the Hawker series into 5 parts in lieu of my normal 2 to 3 parts. That should help. Thanks again! Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

Thanks FS Mania. Another great series. Looks like the Hawker was harder on frames than I'm used to seeing in your vids. Think it'll be one of your regulars? Thanks again... entertaining, informative, and fun. Hope the next series comes soon.

siege00 Hey siege00, Thanks very much. The Hawker wasn't too bad on the frames, but flying low over Orbx mountains, clouds, and Fraps, take their toll. Plus I was running light bloom which hits hard but gives some nice reflections. I think Carenado may have dialed the polygon count down a bit on this model due to numerous complaints about frame rates? I flew very well in terms of fluidity and frame rates when I wasn't recording with Fraps. Thanks again! Cheers, Tim G., FS MaNiA

I'm kinda sad I only started watching your channel today. I wanted to see how good the hawker was and I think you did a great job reviewing and you seem very intelligent and knowledgeable about the plane and surroundings. Keep up the great videos they are very enjoyable. I am now subbed and you should expect likes on some of your older videos.

Pilot737_Sanchez Hi, I gotta say, I love getting comments like this. It really helps keep me motivated to put in the time to do the research, train in the aircraft, and produce the level of detail typical in my flights. That said, I really enjoy the entire process and would probably do it no matter what. It just sweetens the deal when I get such positive feedback. Thank very much for the comments and sub!! Welcome aboard! Stay tuned and kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

Not to worry Phil, I will make my way back to the East Coast at some point. I have flown around the flight sim world a couple of times. I tend to pick up where I leave off, so since I'm out in the Northwest I figure I'll see the sites. There are so many places to fly and so little time!! I'll work my way back home eventually. Been living and flying these parts for a long time so I must have the itch to roam a little. I live a few miles from the Zoo and I just went to check out the critters a couple of weeks ago for the first time in about ten years! Crazy... right! Cheers, Tim G., FS MaNiA

Once again a nice series, very informative and helpful. I love everything about this plane and I would consider making it my "personal private" business jet in FSX. But you convinced me that the panel is too hard to read and that will be a NO veto on this plane for me. I'm sure it is scale and prototypical, but it has to be functional for me to use it. Call me old school (I am), but I like the old steam gauges over the modern flat screens. I can tell at a glance my airspeed and altitude and see trends easier than interpreting a tape. By the way, sweet landing! Looking forward to more excellent videos!

RAM55 Thank you RAM55! I will say there is a lot to like about the Hawker! I am going to do a couple of follow up videos on this girl because she has a lot of nice qualities. I have learned a few more tricks on managing the autopilot and electrical system. With EZDok I can change my views pretty simple to read the fine print on the gauges, so, I haven't given up on her yet. I do love the "steam gauges" as well, especially the large numbers and simple formatting. Learning a good instrument scan was a basic skill needed for instrument flying, and the standard layout of the steam gauges was a natural progression of the scan. However, with I will say the glass cockpits and modern avionics gps, etc., really improve situational awareness. Since A2A has just released the Piper Comanche 250 with steam gauges and Bendix King dual nav-coms, I am adding it to the "Coming Soon" video list. I have a lot of real world time in Piper Warriors, Cherokees, and Lance. I have been wanting to feature a flight using all radio (no GPS) cross country navigation which is the way I learned. Stay tuned, Cheers! Tim G., FS MaNiA

I enjoy the fun facts as well. I find myself paying closer attention to the areas I fly over as a result of watching your vids. Looking forward to seeing the video showcasing this with the GTN750. Honestly, it's probably the only way I'd enjoy this model. Shame, because for $50, I'd expect basic functions of the AP to perform correctly instead of having to go through hoops.

Lobta Hey Lobta, Just flew with the GTN750 and it is a nice upgrade. I also got an email from the guy that worked on the GTN mod (from Avsim). He asked me if I'd be interested in working with him to iron out the kinks in the Carenado autopilot!! I said heck yeah!! Stay tuned, might get this bird tweaked where she will make a more respectable showing. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

Hi Mario, I would be happy to share those with you. Send me a message with your contact information and I will send you the file. I might consider doing a tutorial video on how I set up my views in EZdok, however, there are a number of them already on KZbin that I used to learn some tricks and tips myself. It is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. EZdok is an awesome tool to move around the cockpit and exterior of the aircraft. I don't think I could make a descent video with out it. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

good video, im not too impressed with this carenado release either. Think they could have done a far superior job. What atc background chatter are you using?
@FSMaNiA
@FSMaNiA 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Trent, I recorded the ATC from liveATC.net. You can search the ATC facility using identifier code and stream it live. I try to grab ATC chatter near the area I'm flying to make it relative. I'm getting ready to start uploading a new series on Carenado's Phenom 300. I think it is better than the Hawker. It has a G1000 glass cockpit it's not perfect but it's a little easier to manage than the fickle Hawker IMHO. Great to hear from you! Take care. Tim G., FS MaNiA

Did you have to put the ILS frequency in the nav or did the FMS do it by it self when selecting the approach for PAEN ?
@FSMaNiA
@FSMaNiA 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre', I'm sorry so much time has gone by since you left this question. I have been on hiatus for a few months dealing with real world projects. Going from vague memory, I think the proper ILS frequency is tuned in the NavCom radio when the approach is selected using the FMS. Again, that is from a very dusty memory so you may want to double check to be sure. Standard practice when flying an ILS is to identify the station by turning up the volume on the receiver and listening for the Morse code identifier. I was taught to leave the identifier playing softly in the background during the approach for assurance that the station was on air and operating properly. Seems like a good idea. Kindest regards from Tim G, FS MaNiA

+Robert Langford Aviation is a field that you can always find something new to learn. I have been flying since 1978 and I still learn something new all the time. So,,, if you want to live, "spread your wings and learn to fly" seems fitting here. Tim
