The newer PA-44s have prop accumulators, you do not need to use the starter to unfeather those newer models. All of my time in the real plane is in the older 1979 model where the starter is required, always a little nerve wracking restarting them lol, would be a bad time if the starter failed. Anyone else get a crash to desktop when trying to tune the DME?
@thecorporatepilotdad
@thecorporatepilotdad 3 жыл бұрын
That is very good to know about the accumulator. I did see other versions of games where Carenado has a glass cockpit and a steam gauge panel but I have only seen steam gauges for the FS2020 aircraft. Maybe they modeled it after the new PA44. I was tuning the DME a while ago and had no crashes from it. I actually tried it again just now and no crashes. Thanks for the info!

I have flown this aircraft for a while now (in real life not a sim) and even the propeller changing blade angle without running is accurate. The PA44 has a unfeathering accumulator which uses nitrogen gas and oil pressure to unfeather the propeller, therefore Carenado modeled that part perfectly

Great to know I didn't waste my money (even though I personally don't feel I have ever wasted my money on any Carenado purchases). They do a great job on the graphics of all their aircraft (and it appears they do well most of the time on the flight dynamics). I haven't flown this one much yet as I'm working on a hardware configuration for it. The autopilot stumped me as I didn't realize you had to manually stop at the altitude you wanted. Nothing like learning in the air. ;)

I love the PA-44. I flew it the most until I got the Mooney. There is no altitude select so you have to decrease the climb rate and press ALT when you reach the desired altitude. I have a tutorial on the PA-44's S-TEC 55 autopilot. I even got the manual for it to make the tutorial but it's tailored to small differences in FS2020.

@5:45 I'm sorry but that is completely false. That seminole has an unfeathering accumulator. The prop absolutely WILL come out of feather with the engine off, as it uses oil pressure stored in the unfeathering accumulator to unfeather the prop without the engine running. The only Seminoles that do not have an unfeathering accumulator are the "79's." That is obviously not a 1979 model Seminole as you can tell by the engine instruments and dash layout. @@thecorporatepilotdad That's not an older model. Only the "'79's" did not have the unfeathering accumulator. You can tell by looking at the dash that this isn't a 1979 model. The "older" Seminoles have the important engine instruments down below the yoke, very hard to mistake.

@@busterscruggs_sc That has been an ongoing discussion with some people in these comments. Did all Seminole's have unfeathering accumulators? I heard the answer was no but only with the early models. @busterscruggs_sc
@busterscruggs_sc 3 жыл бұрын
@@thecorporatepilotdad The 1979 model seminoles, or the ones produced in that time frame, did not. However they are distinct in that they have the old style piper yoke, like the old Cherokees, and the engine instruments are below the yoke in a really terrible position. Also, most of the rocker switches are on the left wall. What we called the "2000 seminoles" the ones produced from the late 90's and on, have the unfeathering accumulators. The "2000 seminole" (nickname) is what you are flying in this video. Sure there are the newer G1000 seminoles, but those are more similar to the 2000 models than the 79's. @thecorporatepilotdad

I was flying on one engine yesterday and no, I don't think it's realistic. It will barely hold 100 knots on one engine in level flight. If the airspeed is kept higher is does perform better. I saw some comments elsewhere by guys that fly Seminoles and they said it will still climb 300 fpm or so in real life on one engine.

Yeah, I got a chuckle when you said (paraphrasing here) full fidelity airliner at 30 bucks.lol. You need to check out the X-Plane.org store and see the cost on "study level airliners". Personally for me the most expensive aircraft I bought was the FJSim 737-200 for $69.00 USD, then I did a review on it (back in the day) a long with a follow up video. At first, I thought I wasted my money, and my first video reflected on that. But over time it grew on me, and ended up be in my favorite airliner. But I don't typically fly airliners (just not my thing, "boring"), I spend most of my flight simulation time in GA, but to each their own I guess. Thanks for the review, looks like the aircraft is typical Carenado at that price point. If they would have had a GTN 750 installed maybe I would have picked it up. Once you go GTN 750, it's hard to go back, but that's just me. Cheers Dion YT: #dionm01

I have had a few people comment on my 30 dollar price for a detailed airliner. But hey, how nice would it be if they were only 30 bucks? I fly jets for work and when I play FS2020 for fun I do enjoy the GA aircraft a lot. In real life, I had the most fun flying GA aircraft and I do not get to do that type of flying anymore, which is why I enjoy GA airplanes so much on FS2020. I get questions from people on airliners on FS2020 and I always try to steer people to try out the GA airplanes. Better, slower, and much easier to learn on. They are a lot of fun. $30 for a full fidelity airliner? You haven't been in the flight sim community long. XD Did you try doing a more gentle Vmc test? Back when I did my Comm Multi in a Duchess we used to demonstrate the exact onset of loss of control with full rudder deflection and the nose still yawing. I showed my students how you can do the entire Vmc demo and recovery with just gentle pitch corrections which make the nose track a sort of box in the sky.

I have found out in the last 24 hours from you and a few others that 30 dollars isn't reasonable for very detailed for large airliners. I have been playing Flight Sim since FS98 but never bought any payware except a C421 years ago on FSX and the Seminole. As far as the your question on the VMC demo, I used full power on the operating engine and decreased the airspeed slowly. It was exactly that, a demonstration and it is a flight sim. In real life, I do not remember doing Vmc demos to the extent in the video. I took it to Vmc and that is how the airplane reacted. It's been over 20 years since I have done one in an actual airplane.

Thanks, great review! as pro pilot would you recommend this for home IFR training? I did my MEA-IR in a G430 Seminole and am choosing between this and the X-plane equivalent. I need something with fully functionally GPS database so you can program a SID, RNAV approaches etc, is that possible with this version?
@thecorporatepilotdad
@thecorporatepilotdad 3 жыл бұрын
Yes but always remember, it is a sim/game. It is close to real life in many ways, but not quite. You can do almost all instrument procedures (no missed approach procedures in the GPS on an RNAV approach and everything else has to be done manually) and practice many approaches. For a procedures trainer and practicing approaches, holds, etc, then yes, it is fine. It is not good for landings or anything that requires tactile feel or muscle memory. As a matter of fact, I have my throttle on the left and joystick on the right even though when I fly in real life I hold the yoke with my left hand and the throttle with my right. I do not want to develop any bad muscle memory from FS2020 to the real airplanes. You can program SIDS and STARs and RNAV approaches but the missed approach procedures are not in the GPS or FMS on any approach type, yet.
@benfrenchh1

@@thecorporatepilotdad thats great, thanks. It's 100 bucks an hour for the rated sim (not landing approved) and 700 for the Seminole where I live so anything that takes the edge off the amount of real cockpit time required for renewals would be great! I find the physical handling of the real aircraft the easy bit so if this is good for practicing juggling all the tasks of manual VOR/NDB/ILS/RNAV approaches then it's def. worth it! Would you choose this over the x-plane equivalent? Presumably they're both compatible with 3rd party ATC sim. Thanks again for your advice!
@thecorporatepilotdad
@thecorporatepilotdad 3 жыл бұрын
@@benfrenchh1 700? Was that a typo? I have not played XPlane. Perhaps some others in here could help comment on that. I think FS2020 is the way to go because it is new, constantly being updated, and the graphics are fantastic. I think they will eventually make it great. I am not sure if there is a 3rd party ATC software for FS2020 yet other than VatSim and I am not overly impressed with Vatsim. You will pick up ATC communications in the real airplane. FS2020 would be for procedural training (IFR ops and procedures) and that is it. Use it to focus on the IFR ops and worry about the ATC communications in the airplane. If you get really desperate I can do Discord with you and do screen sharing in FS2020 and play the part of ATC and help you with that part. When I tried approach and departure stalls I got wing drops and sometimes spins regardless of rudder input. I think it might have something to do with the engines not being fully synchronized, but not sure.
@thecorporatepilotdad
@thecorporatepilotdad 3 жыл бұрын
I did notice on one stall the ball was centered and the wing dropped hard to the left. It did seem drastic with the ball centered, but who knows how it was programmed. I did my multi-engine training back in the day in a Piper Apache. It never dropped a wing like the Seminole by Carenado did. But as far as the actual flying it seemed pretty legit. Out of sync engines could make it drop (like in a Vmc demo) but I think it would take a lot of differential power to get it to drop that much in a stall.

In many Carenado aircraft in fsx when you open the little window in-flight you hear rushing wind. Not in this baby. Crashed.
@thecorporatepilotdad
@thecorporatepilotdad 3 жыл бұрын
I get that too. I used to open windows in Pipers in real life all the time while flying. I may have stuck my hand out a time or two or three. It never crashed doing that. Sure made it windy inside the airplane though. About two updates ago you could open the window at speeds below 100 or so knots and it would make more wind noise.
