The most unbelievable thing in the whole movie is that her husband thinks he can get a solid job with a Sociology degree.

That's like the song "What can you do with a BA in English?" Turns out, you could do quite alot if you can be tactful and creative with your learned skills. Just as a base, the standards of Sociology require statistical knowledge, understanding to read social trends as the develop and behavior patterns besides (such as group think), and that can be abstracted into a job in marketing and sales, or possibly advertising, or any number of similar fields. So really that dude was rather prone to herd mentality for someone who was supposed to be educated in it in depth... kind of weak writing and understanding of that field in the end, my immediate assumption is the writers were just reaching into dated stereotypes of degrees people rarely seek, and did no research or seek some understand earnestly.... And yes I admittedly worked toward such a degree but stopped so I'd like to think the firsthand investment gives a bit better insight then a writers room using decade old numbers and views.

The cops were already suspecting him to be the old man’s killer. If they called them about Ethan they would’ve somehow pinned it on Adam and say they planned it so he could get his job and they’d both steal from the old man

Films like this are always so convoluted and legally inaccurate. If she's married to Adam, then the house is both of theirs. Even if she inherited it. Maybe if the will was written before she was married, but I can tell you from painful personal experience, that when you acquire a large asset like a house whilst married, no matter the circumstances surrounding the acquisition, it's both of yours. I bought a house a few yrs after getting married. Mortgage in my name. Deed in my name. Taxes, utilities, everything, lists only me. After 10 yrs of marriage, 8 or 9 in the house, I found myself homeless one day. My estranged wife faced no obligations to pay for anything at the house. It took almost 2 years to get in front of a judge and tell my side, and by that time I was fucked. That was about 2 yrs ago. Ex wife still in house. House still in my name. She still pays nothing. She has no ties to the house. Maybe I guess she's a squatter, idk. But it would take a big legal battle to get her out. Even tho I pay for it and have always paid for it. We have shared custody of our daughter My point is, the lawyer telling her she alone makes the decisions and inherited the house and money is BS

That's not a mansion. It's just what boomers end up with. Any boomer I know that's still alive has a home like this or did or could. That's just how it was. Buy a house for literally $10k in the 70's. Buy a better house for like $40k in the 80's. Buy this house in the 90's for something like $150k. Now it's worth a million. And it's paid off. So: rich. And they have 401k and maybe even a pension.

I get that she thought Adam might be involved in what happened to the old man, but did she somehow think investigating the diner incident would provide her with proof that Adam is a criminal or something? I don't get it.

This was a fantastic movie with a great plot and semi surprise ending. The acting was also pretty good for not having any A list actors/actresses.
