I think the diesel in prado is likely the last as the 48 bolt system hybrid is a "lite" system so that next when they do release the petrol hybrid the most traditional prado buyers aren't caught off guard because if toyota had made the decision to go with the newer powertrain many prado buyers would have avoided it like the plague as they don't really care about 0-100 or how fast it could go in a corner they want something that's a bit old school yet has modern amenities and they don't need to worry about the other stuff

A bit of a contradictory statement. The influx of cheap Chinese EVs from new brands will be good news for consumers as it will drive prices down, you say, but if these brands don't stick around it won't be good news for the consumers who bought them.

Hi Paul, in respect to your Rivian experience in the US. I recently drove a rental Kia EV6 Chicago to Los Angeles, original Route 66 all the way (yeah, great trip). In the main I relied on ElectrifyAmerica and often found I was the only one at charging locations … until I got to Arizona then California. In those states, and always in California, there was queuing. And, yes, the longest wait times were in LA, the last being for 70 minutes … a bit anxious given it was a splash and dash to replenish before drop off back to Dollar. For the drive as a whole, the upgrade of brands to NACS (and thus admission to the Tesla infrastructure that seems to be prolific all along 66) will help, perhaps. But, yes, the lessons being taught there are highly relevant to Australia (and NZ). Love your work, enjoying your BYD Shark insights. No wonder the NZ distributor is being highly ‘selective’ about which media gets to experience it here.

Stop at the Sutton Forest west services on a busy weekend, and you will see queues and conflict at the EV chargers there. People are wanting to top up before they hit Sydney rather than deal with range issues at the end of their journey. I saw something escalate to close to a fight when a car inadvertently jumped the queue pulling into a just vacated charger.

Plugin hybrids are just not being plugged in. Most buyers are not bothering to get chargers installed at home. This is something that should not be incentivised. When you take the efficiency of a hybrid and add a lot more weight and complexity without taking up grid charging, you end up with something worse than a plain ICE vehicle.

@@knight2425 mate that’s a pretty shit reason. Just get what you want on the merit of it, not what some idiot online says. That kind of reason seems to be more fitting for someone in highschool not a grown adult lol, no offence. Scrolling through the comments theres barely any “ev fanboys”, just a bunch of people hanging shit on EVs. Must just be an online thing, I know plenty of people who have awesome off-road 4wds with an EV second car (like me).

So Paul, it’s now ok for CarExpert to put a misleading and dishonest title on a video? There is no ‘worst’ content in this video. Good to know. Its a race to the bottom and CE are wanting to be part of that race? That’s a pity because I really was thinking for a while that this site had some sort of grain of integrity left. Of course the fanboys, the immature children will come to your defence, but they’re not the ones spending money on buying vehicles through your site, are they? I was going to try you for my next two purchases coming up early in the New Year, but if you’re dishonest with your videos, how can I trust you with the purchase of two motor vehicles for a total of around $180,000?

Paul, it's misleading what you and the rest of the media are repeating about no one wanting EVs anymore just because their sales are dropping. *All* car sales are dropping, and EVs have actually increased market share this year. Absolute sales are not the full picture, you should know better.

On the charging installations , it’s all about money mate , these things are very very expensive to install, a mate of mine in one of the local councils did a test fit for on street charging in one of the Melbourne councils. It’s not as simple as just sending a sparky out in a van with a roll of wire and some charging stations , because on street has multiple body’s involved , you have the power company , linesmen , vic roads , the council , draughtsman for design , and I think there was another my grey matter has left out , iirc 3 charging bays on street cost over $200,000 ! After all , this has to be done professionally , there are high voltages involved , and it has to be idiot proof for the public. I suspect if politicians had done their homework and weighed up all the baggage and cost that comes with electric vehicles before pushing the public to buy them , they would have looked at the big picture and said no way , but here we are today , and make no mistake everyone in the community will pay for this idiotic net zero chest beating as time goes on .

This guy, the so-called team and all their show is to support the agenda and the car industry. for sometimes they were promoting aggressively all EVs without mentioning anything about the supporting industries such as horrible charging time, being bad environmentally, lack of cable acceptable supporting industry, tones of issues with services, charging stations etc. And the worst part is as soon as you comment about it, he and the so-called team start attacking you, which they did to me also. People like these guys are there for profit and support the car industries, not consumers. You will see what I mean after my comments, his team will start and try to mak him look good and will start attackking anyone who is critical of such poor biased reviews. There are other sites and reviewers far better and much more reliable. I would not believe a single words coming out of this guy’s mouth.

EV fanboy? Hmmmm realist maybe…. It’s true charging infrastructure is lagging everywhere but it’s by choice… and easily fixed If anyone believes ev’s aren’t the future they’re not being honest with themselves … will they do everything an ICE can?…. No Nor can they eat grass or feed you if needed but we moved on from horses too

Drive your EV on your expense and not on taxpayers. Otherwise be thankful to all taxpayers who are paying for your shiny toy.

It feels like the end of an era. Most of the next generation don't drive or care about cars. The roads will soon just be full of ugly cheap soulless Chinese evs 🤢 the very reason the grand tour finished.
