Had my GX550 about a month . Pleasure to drive , I’m averaging low 13L on freeway in economy mode . Mid 15L around town . Sports mode add a couple Litres . The 10 speed box is smooth, quiet on freeway for a boxy car , visibility in car is remarkably good . Sharing the same size frame as 300 , the GX doesn’t feel nearly as big when driving . My wife was hesitant at start having a smaller car , although is quite comfortable in it now with cameras and parking displays . Off road I’m yet to do anything more challenging than this video and probably won’t in future. 2 teenage kids in back are happy with leg room and comfortable , reclining back seats . It’s not for everyone I understand, although we are loving ours . Yes , it’s thirsty and I’m yet to crack 500km on a tank with mixed driving, it’s a downside that our driving situation doesn’t throw the purchase into negative. For those that drive average 15-20k per year , the GX fuel bills would be approx 2k more per year than a similar size car (eg new Prado) that averages around 8-9L / 100km . Update .. 350km freeway trip. Cruise control 116km , no traffic. Average 10.9L /100km. (As I’m up near 4000km , the car does seem a little better on fuel consumption) Original 13L consumption I stated above was running between Syd and Coast , which includes standard freeway traffic and various hill climbs .

Modern 4wd vehicles are really very capable. What is clear is that drivers do not understand what settings to select for given road conditions. When Car Experts do not automatically select the best setting for the conditions, it is clear that the manufacturers and sales staff are failing in the all important area of providing driver information and training. It would be good to see car reviews where the drivers are from the manufacturers and know how to get the best out of the machines, and that knowledge is passed on to new comers of four wheel driving.

@sylviam6535 reliability? Toyota are certainly challenging themselves on that recently. I don't subscribe to the blind toyota loving that many do based on perceptions from decades ago. I've got a new defender and build quality is excellent. While they deservedly have a bad name for reliability, land rover do seem to have picked up their game in recent years. I've got a very capable 4x4 that shares a platform and power train with range rovers and its unbelievable to drive and I'll keep it that way. Same price as this lexus prado too.

@@user-pp6kw6yl6z - As you said, if that Defender turns out to be reliable, it’s a recent development. They do indeed have a bad reputation for reliability.
@NavapexАй бұрын
@@user-pp6kw6yl6z I don;t have a toyota but I know from my son who is a mechanic, that toyota reliability is starting to get tarnished. I have the original Defender shape 2013 and yes it has had a few issues but I love it. My cousin has the latest version which is built on the Range Rover architecture and mechanicals and he has had his share of electrical issues same ones off course as the Range Rover.
@user-pp6kw6yl6zАй бұрын
@Navigator-apex this is the exact reason I was not afraid to try something other than toyota and so far so good but at the same time fingers crossed it doesnt go bad. The defender is such a nice vehicle to drive on road as well, as it should be on a monoque platform. And your 2013 sounds great, I do think land rovers are a car you love regardless of their faults. I've had a hilux and it was far too uncomfortable and actually unreliable for me to put up with its deficiencies.

If you are paying $100k+ for and off-road luxury, I'd prefer the LR Defender, it's got the style and less thirsty. The GX front grille just looks cheap as the Toyota LandCruiser.
@ErzbergAdventuresАй бұрын
I was super keen to get one of these. But sadly it feels like a mishmash of Lexus features. That sadly do not make sense from a driver's perspective. 1st being a tiny 80L tank in something touted as a serious off road vehicle. Then you just trickle down a very long list of premium Lexus features that get cut from the spec list. If you sit in the GX then move to the LX, it becomes way more obvious! The interior also feels very cheap and plastic. If you put the GX over trail against the upcoming Prado Altitude. The value gets even worse! The altitude is much more useful with more tech!

Not sure why you bring up the LX when you get things in the GX you don't get in the LX (eKDSS, massaging front seats etc)
@ErzbergAdventuresАй бұрын
@@chibbyylol because if you sit in each vehicle you quickly realise why the GX feels like a cheap build.

All Lexus LX 570 very good . good size good quality good design and Land Cruiser V8 also why they change
@DJJaayLАй бұрын
I think it looks great. But I’m not sure I’d take it over a Defender for similar price and equipment. The Prado is more appealing since it’s roughly 30k cheaper than the Defender. Also Lexus with 6 month servicing intervals is ridiculous

With the e-KDSS, could Toyota/Lexus have had air suspension or ride height control?
@AD28197Ай бұрын
It would seem Toyota has the same problem as Mitsubishi with its Traction control system, in which you have to use terrain select. Wish they would fine tune it to where the auto/default setting is superb then MTS improves it further.
@warcrabcyber9908Ай бұрын
@ 27:14 there is nothing wrong with the system , the system was tuned this way for a reason, traction control is not meant to be aggressive for on road driving. There are no obstacles on tarmac that require that much power to go to an individual wheel The only slip you get is on a wet road , the main problem I have here is the lexus bias, He bashed the triton at this point , he also didn't put the triton in mud mode as he did for the lexus , it's very inconsistent and unfair to the triton.

It’s just such a pity it doesn’t have the 3L diesel from the 300
@joeblogs4295Ай бұрын
A shame though that it is not a real contender for towing anything around Oz. Small fuel tank, no diesel option and no ability to upgrade GVM - so once you add some tow ball weight, you aren’t left with much or any payload.

Any reason why the GX media videos in Australia where just released now? I thought the GX was released in Australia a few months ago. I even saw one on the road in Newcastle NSW back in August. I would not thought the one I saw was a test vehicle as it wasn't camouflaged.

I'm an overtrail owner in Sydney. There was a delay on the delivery for a few months, but most deliveries started in late August/early September. Not sure why they're releasing the press videos now.
