I know why carmakers continue to use piano black despite its well documented shortcomings - because it looks great when it’s brand new in the showroom. What happens when the buyer gets it home is not their problem.

Everyone has an opinion but as an American Land Rover I think it’s brilliant for what it is - and glad we have a diverse offering here and choice of a six instead of 2 litre turbos that demand 95 octane and are less economical- I’d buy this well before a Merc GLS or BMW X7

@@menifo4334 Not sure, I know the ones for the US market is all built in the USA itself, but there are also Jeeps built in Mexico, Brazil and Austria. @@devon2435 It's a shame really. It looks stunning inside and out. I have been eying this since it was launched but we'll have the RHD 2.0 petrol-hybrid in Europe presumably by the end of Spring 23. Not sure I'm willing to wait that long, only to be disappointed by poor quality issues.

@@menifo4334 I don't think Europe will get a similar GC to Aus, maybe the UK will because it is a RHD country, but I'll think it'll be better. My first choice would honestly be the 2.0 Hybrid 4xe, there is a lot of misinformation about the battery depleting, but in my experience with it in the US it acts just as a normal hybrid even with the battery at 0% there is always reserve electric power under acceleration in normal driving conditions. That hybrid is crazy powerful and smooth, wish they would do it in the L version.

It is amazing how they can make a LHD feel like an actual luxury suv, I drove one in the US and it was great, all the body panels lined up perfectly, there was nothing squeaky or cheap in the interior, really up to MB and Bmw levels. Then I came back to Aus last month and took one for a test drive, and I was shocked in the quality difference between them, don't know why Jeep doesn't care enough about RHD markets to give us the same quality. It is really a shame because I was pretty much sold on it...

You mentioned that the fuel capacity is 104 litres. This is not correct and has been recently amended by Jeep Australia. They incorrectly calculated the metric conversion forgetting that US gallons are smaller than Imperial gallons. I pointed this out in a letter to their CEO and they agreed their information was incorrect and they’ve updated their specifications to show that the fuel tank capacity is actually 87 litres.

@@1991Vn2nV yep, I wanted it clarified. I like having a decent range in my vehicles and I assumed that to partly compensate for the loss of range with the deletion of the Diesel engine, they’d increased the size of the fuel tank. Yet, when I looked at the Jeep’s specifications on their USA website, the new Grand Cherokee had a smaller tank than its predecessor. It turned out that they’d made a conversion error. Accordingly, the lack of a Diesel engine, along with the much reduced range of the new model are the reasons I won’t be replacing my current Jeep with the new model.

Even in the US, the engine choices are a disappointment being carryovers. In the Australian market, with the limited engine choice, seems like the regular Grand Cherokee (not the L) in a lower trim makes more sense. And the build quality issues are present here in the US also. Personally, I think there are better choices in the market.

I disagree about lower trim. I say always but too from so you’re not missing out. The only time I sway from that is if the top trim only has say only one rubbish engine choice or only has 2WD when you want 4WD or only has Manual when you want Auto etc etc. Otherwise Always get top spec. Don’t scrimp.

Best car reviewer!! Thanks for such honest an thorough feedback! We were tossing up between one of these and the new 2023 palisade, but palisade has won us over for a number of reasons. The biggest deterrent for us buying the Jeep was the much higher price to get the summit reserve vs palisade highlander and the warranty being capped at 100k. The other things you have pointed out in this review I had completely overlooked! Such a shame, cause this is so close to being the perfect all rounder car for larger families, but just misses the mark.

It’s not just that vehicle Paul, I know way too many people who have bought a new Jeep. Terrible build quality, terrible reliability. None of them would ever buy a Jeep again - says it all really. A brand that relies on its name for initial sales until people realise what pieces of \¥^¥{¥\§€£[# that they are! One had to go through legal action to get a full new replacement under the lemon laws, and the replacement new car had to be replaced again! They need to come with a warning saying “not in your right mind!” 😂

I'm American and one of the biggest misconceptions about Americans from watching Australian and English reviews is that we use our doorbins. I do not know anyone who has ever used their doorbins for drinks and bottles, our cupholders are big enough and there is plenty of storage elsewhere throughout our car for bottles. Currently we have a Kia Telluride but we used to have a second gen Dodge Durango and that car didn't even have doorbins, only a little slot in the lower door.

The full size spare would be pointless if i am not mistaken. Especially if it has the same alloy. If you run a cherokee with different wheel size you burn the diff or the system running your 4x4. You need to run evenly used/ same mileage tires or the system thinks one is running faster than the other and starts sending power differently. This was at least with tje older gens. So a spare should not be used long… but i could be mistaken.

Also have a V6 Diesel GC, '20 model, definitely have the Everest on the radar as a replacement in a few years. Curious to know though, does yours have a shocking throttle delay? Test drive cars had none, but upon delivery ours has been awful. Throttle controller does not remedy the issue. Jeep say it's just how they are, and a local tuning mob have said it only came about with the change to the AdBlue V6s. The lag isn't so problematic on the highway, but around town (especially roundabouts) it's just dangerous.

This was a disaster not offering a V8 crazy the V6 is rubbish and meant for people who have not got a clue, like those people who don't even under stand difference between diesel or petrol. That's who they are targeting. You wouldn't buy this asking 100K + this is crazy ,you can buy a BMW X5 or New Defender they are bother much superior in all areas for a little bit more. You wouldn't even buy JGC L in a fire sale with the V6 petrol as it is not powerful enough and it uses too much fuel , it's a joke . Jeep Australia took away the V8 and are charging 30% more for a rubbish underpowered, basic and slow V6. Can't tow as much as the V8 of and of course they were hoping a jeep customer Aussies wouldn't notice the awful underpowered of the V6 . Crazy these won't sell like the V8 did. The poor build quality in 2022 is unacceptable and terrible .Jeep had a really big chance for this to shine but cut corners over charged all of you for an inferior engine that was dirt cheap for them to chuck in this, hoping customers won't notice it because of the new exterior facelift. The V8 version should have been here and priced under 100 k drive away but no they got really greedy this time and chucked a rubbish NA V6 petrol in that is way under powered for this heavy vehicle and made it so you can't tow as much as the older models this is just bonkers and nuts . Avoid it !

At 87 Liters, the fuel tank is too small for a big car with below-par fuel economy. Fill-ups for most sub-urban to work commutes will be 2 or 3 times a week.

Jeep realized a total revenue of US$46.2 billion worldwide, while the total market revenue amounted to US$1.6 trillion in 2020. The largest passenger cars segment, Small SUVs, accounted for 60% of Jeep's revenue in 2020. That's probably why

Is this a factory RHD or is it done by a third party once it arrives in Australia? Not surprised about panel gaps since it’s a FCA project.

you need to give these a chance, it’s a fresh platform and the first few sold will find the issues and then they can improve, it’s a good platform and the interior is nice. this thing when ironed out will be on another level of the palisade and kluger. can’t bag out a platform that is new and still being improved. still a good review paul!

Thing is though they should be ironed out already if you're forking out 115k for one, especially regarding panel missalignment and gaps. The Japanese or South Koreans would never do such a shitty job.....for a lot less mind you!

@@givvia6782 ever heard the term “built on a friday”. that’s this car. i’ve test driven one of these in a lower trim and it had no panel gap issues or quality issues that this one has. this one could be a one off. everything on the one i test drove worked flawlessly. just wish there was a different engine option available!

@@rforracemode5846 Good to hear that you had a positive experience with the one you test drove. However 'Built on a Friday' shouldn't exist on a vehicle pushing six figures especially from a brand as established as Jeep. 77 years is long enough to wait for poor build quality and even poorer quality control to be 'ironed out'!

This vehicle has been available in USA for ages. Clearly, quality control is non existent, considering they let this vehicle leave the factory with the mis aligned panels, and other issues.. Jeep Australia let this be a press car, without fixing these problems. CRAZY !

I so wanted to replace my 2012 overlander with 240000k with this (best car ever btw). Saw one at a farm show. Was interested until the towing capacity and price were mentioned. This car will be a disaster for Jeep Australia with that towing capacity. I’ve decided to hold onto the overlander until the new Everest platinum lands. Save $30k and keep the ability to tow the horse float. This Jeep is a bad joke with that engine.
