thank you for making this video. I was actually the person, whom requested it. I've been a longtime admirer of the Cayenne (1st gen only). That said, I recently purchased a 2009 Lexus RX350, with 21,000 original miles. The vehicle is showroom condition and was never even driven in the rain. Regarding performance, it's not a Porsche V8 but it's fun to drive. It's pretty quick/torqueee and I appreciate the responsive steering. Sidenote: I did drive the 3rd gen RX350 before purchasing my 2nd gen, and didn't like the ride quality at all. The 3rd gen felt like a "point A to point B" station wagon. Contrasted by the 2nd gen, which feels sporty and more responsive, IMO. Thank you again for the fine video. Do you plan to keep your RX330? Take care.

@AtlasCroc

It all depends on what you're looking for - Porsches are amazing drives, but to get that level of performance there is a lot of complex engineering that can and will cause troubles down the road. By comparison Toyota/Lexus are very boring rides - I've driven plenty of each - it's a fact. Exciting ride = pay more, Boring ride = pay less. I can buy either and would always choose the Porsche, but I know what I'm getting into, accept it and don't complain about it. I do most if not all the work myself, so much of it is not a big issue. Key here, don't buy a 14 year old, higher mileage Porsche turbo SUV without being able to work in it yourself. The dealer and even a good independent will charge you a ton of $$$ to keep it in good shape. If you want any sort of reliability in an older, higher mileage SUV - get the Lexus.

Some cars are gonna have problems no matter the brand. For example my 2004 f-150 has a triton 5.4 engine that's approaching 200k miles with no problems. I know a lot of people who got rid of their truck because of a specific engine problem long before it hits 200k. It's hard to find a car that rides and drives as beautifully as a Porsche.
@ChipW
@ChipW Жыл бұрын
That engine problem, the timing chain issue, was started in the 2006 model year of the 5.4. I have a 99 F-150 with the 5.4 and am at 415k on the clock. Just after it breeched the 400k mark, I took it on a 2500 mile vacation to visit family with any issues at all. That truck will be with me until it dies and from what I can tell, it's going to be a while. That said, I just bought an 05 RX 330 and hoping for the same reliability.

2008 Lexus RX400h 250k and totally reliable since purchase with 79k on the odometer. Iv driven a few Cayennes, 2009 S, 2010 turbo S and 2012 diesel. All the Porsches are far more driver oriented and far more capable in off road or major snow storms ...but I'd chose the Lexus ever time for any family members car over the cayennes.

I owned a 2006 Porsche Cayenne S and loved it for its looks power and status, but always worried about something breaking.. Currently own a 2005 RX330 and although its slow as F, it is more dependable and cheaper to repair- Cayenne has timing chain whereas Lexus has timing belt, so that is a $800 job to always consider every 90k miles-

The other thing to consider is that the Porsche will most likely have a thorough service record, while the Lexus will have a massive amount of deferred maintenance because they're "so reliable". If you're unlucky enough to be holding the bag when the Lexus does go off, you'll learn the harsh reality that Lexus parts/service are every bit as expensive as Porsche. Also the Lexus drivetrain is made of glass compared to the Porsche. My RX 300 that I purchased new, and serviced by the book, slowly ingested its own transmission around 120k. After this, scraping metal out of the transmission pan and replacing the clogged filter became annual maintenance. I'm sure the 330/350 is tougher, but still they are essentially FWD based passenger car drivetrains.

Any car company brand is only as good as the parent company it hides behind. I.E, Lexus / Toyota versus Cayenne / Volkswagen. Most VW's drive well but become mechanical money pits. Lexus can also be expensive to work on, but rarely breaks down. Both have a luxurious comfort. I would either lease a Porsche or buy a Lexus.

Great video but you should have showed the cayennes cup holds and center console for the front and rear.. The cayenne can also inflate tires or other things with its air tank in the back there is a port by the passenger side and mine also have sensors all around it so it's hard to hit anything and also all the memory for the seats and side mirrors when you get in or reverse.

I feel like a second gen Acura MDX is an excellent middle grounds between these two vehicles. It handles pretty well right between the blah Lexus and fun porsche, 300hp is adequate but not too slow, the SH-AWD is great in the snow which is what most people buy crossovers for but is bad offroad, it can tow 5,000lbs right in between the Porsche and Lexus, reliability is excellent, very comfortable, upkeep costs are a bit higher than the Lexus but well below the cayenne, it's pretty spacious, but where it really shines in comparison is having a third row (for children atleast) and the "Advanced Technology Package" is one of the best infotainment/audio systems from the late 2000s.

After having test drove a second gen and two third gen RX they honestly sucked, the ride was nothing special and handling was blah, they were noisier than expected, the arm rests were uncomfortable, and on the third gen the mouse controlled infotainment system was the worst thing I've ever used even when compared to a 2002 bmw 7 series I-Drive system which was the first and worst year of an infamously pain in the ass system. The interior also didn't have a luxury car quality when compared to the euro options. I test drove a 2012 Highlander limited and it had a smoother and quieter ride and better seats than any of the Lexus but it was butt ugly. The 4th gen RX are really comfortable though, never driven one but did sit in one and the interior was a huge step up in comfort and quality, when they get to a more affordable price I'll consider a used one. Frankly as a luxury vehicle the Lexus doesn't compare to the Porsche (yes I've driven a cayenne as well), the rx is only a luxury vehicle when compared to a crv or rav4.
