We owned a 2006, bought new, the back of the seat fell off as well in a couple of years. In addition at 52k miles, the ceramic manifold cracked. Porsche would not warranty it. It took a class action lawsuit to get reimbursed. It drove and braked nicely for a heavy car but under powered.

First gens were really over engineered so lots of annoying crap to eventually break, but mostly solid. My dads 06 Turbo S was flawless for engine/transmission at 155k, but the key stuck in the ign, worn bushings, few oil leaks etc, everything added up to not be worth it really and he bought a new base model, (2019 at the time) still has it and absolutely loves it. fun enough, this week I bought one in Montreal, for 3k$, 2009, V6 , 250k km. No check engine , all working. the owner (original) told me he never put any $ but basic maintenance. Very impressive for a 1gen touareg/cayenne. Went online , and in deed those were overbuilt, no major issues. Ready for our beautiful salty roads. Now people think I'm a super baller in a 3k$ cayenne.

I am so psyched! I literally bought a 2007 with 80000km on the clock yesterday and then this video comes out and proves I made the right decision. Also mine was 5% of the original price here in Malaysia thanks to heavy taxes. I got one with regular suspension because 15 years later the price of a new set of air suspension from Porsche costs more than the car, it's very likely to break soon and recons or Chinese will also break within 6 months. So to all other prospective buyers; find one without PDCC!

Totally. And I think porsche dropped a ball a bit when they ditched that part in new generations. I mean apart from some billionares, nobody offroads Land Cruisers or Range Rovers as _new_ either. But big part of their value is that second owners do. And it's an option for the mad sort of first ones too. And I would claim that atleast in my neck of the woods, very few (if any), Land Cruisers aren't offroaded in their later life.

The 09, similar, bought I had a friend who really wanted it, and I finally caved. These are amazing value if you buy a good used one with low miles and a good service history. I do all my own maintenance, having a good tool box and access to KZbin. These trucks are easy to service, built very well, and aside from more complex repairs like coolant tubes in the 955 generation, are not difficult to figure out. I have other cars including an 09 911 Turbo , a 78, an 80 and an 86 Mercedes. All are light on technology, very well made, and easily maintained and repaired. I bought a 2020 Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid last week. Previously, I had been using 2019 Mercedes-Benz S500L AMG (V222) for two years and many good cars in the past. Porsche is just something else, I'm feeling the best days of my life every day nowadays, the sound, drive, interior, everything is perfectly balanced. A couple of days ago, they loaned me a 992 Carrera GTS for two days to get the sports exhaust fitted in my Cayenne, I wouldn't have the 911 in ugly British roads by any means. It's meant for tracking, but I do only long distances. The guy who drove the Cayenne to pick up the GTS told me that he thinks likewise. Cayenne is a perfect package for daily driving.

Seems to have all the normal Porsche issues. Wonder how they keep their value with all the dissolving plastic, and expensive maintenance. Little things fall apart for no reason except cheap materials in manufacturing. Drives very well for an AWD SUV. But MercedesML550 AMG same year is better as far as quiet, smooth, less costly, better fuel mileage euro SUV.

I looked at probably 10 of them before I bought this one. There's a huge difference in the maintenance history and upkeep of the vehicles. The nine other ones I wouldn't have bought it all. Interiors all clapped out. Lack of maintenance will cost you more to get the car into good condition then just buying a good one. Unless you want to buy one and try to restore it yourself? Hail damage unfortunately messed up the exterior so I gave the car to my daughter and it's her daily driver.

I love my '15 Cayenne SEH, just about to hit 100k miles and my total repair expense (not counting regular maintenance/ consumables) is $0.13 for a resistor for a failed pedestrian alert speaker. Also the flex discs on the driveshaft were replaced as part of a TSB under previous ownership. I am of the opinion that Cayennes are the most complete car on the market (did you know they tow 7,700 lbs, more than any other SUV or small truck, a tacoma is only good for 6,800 for context). Also a correction to a misconception, the cayennes have actually become even more capable offroaders with each generation, its just that with the 958 gen they switched from a manual two speed transfer case to an automatic torque vectoring one. Find me another car capable of swallowing the whole family plus luggage for a two week vacation that has the NVH of an S class, handles like a sports sedan, has real steering feel, does 60 in under 5, is as reliable as a Toyota, can tow a large boat, and has the fit and finish of a Porsche. Also my SEH is returning ~31-32 mpg lifetime average. The V8 in the new S is the ea825 btw, flash tune gives you 725 hp, add an intake and intercoolers and its good for 830, and with tte1020 hybrid turbos it can make 930 hp pump gas without other mods, total cost of about $9k installed including intercoolers intake and tune.

I like the look of the older ones way more and a V8 is always better than a 4 banger or V6. It's about sound and feel more than actual performance imo. I don't care if the V6 turbo puts out more power, the V8 is bigger, sounds better, and just feels better.

Great video!! I just bought a one owner 2005 base model with 6sp manual with 126k miles from a family friend in August for dirt cheap because trade-in values tanked and they literally parked it in 2017. With a bunch of personal repair labor and parts that aren’t super expensive I have it back on the road as of October. Being a shared platform with the Q7 and Touareg, there is an abundance of aftermarket support for the older ones AND Porsche announced the 955 & 957 are a part of Porsche Classic program.

The maintenance costs are overblown on these. Yeah, I could see the outrageous maintenance costs if the work was done entirely at a stealership--sorry--dealership. However, the case would be another completely different story if whatever maintenance jobs or repairs were taken care of at a quality independent mechanic shop. This particular example notwithstanding, the Cayennes of this generation are pretty reliable. The 4.5 V8 is a Porsche design with some weaknesses, but the V6 (VR6) is the ideal engine for longevity as it makes decent power, sounds great, and is a proven engine overall. Even the V8s aren't bad in the long term once the initial quirks have been solved.

Getting the older one so cheap does leave plenty of room to make a handful of repairs & some updates, changes or upgrades. So even if you find a nice clean one for $10-15k & dump another $5-10k you're in for $15-25k & then you likely have a really nice sorted Porsche. As all who've owned or driven any Porsche knows that any well sorted Porsche is an amazing piece of machinery & they are just on a whole other level than most others. Try looking out for a quality independent mechanic shop that can take care of anything big. There’s no way a clutch job should cost $4,000.
