At a first glance this may look like a questionable supercar replica but it's actually one of the coolest Kei Cars ever produced! Special thanks to www.thecarware... for inviting us along to drive it.

The Kei cars should be offered to all markets! Maybe with a 900 cc instead of their usual 600 cc , but that’s the only thing that should be changed on them...

They had three ‘concepts’ for this car’s design. One of them, the type A was this model with the gull wing doors and what not. One was called the type C and was designed to look like a miniature prototype lemans racer. And one of them, the type B, was a fairly simple design without any real gimmicks and a sort of boxy front end instead of the wedge shape. It looked like a miniature 510 or maybe even a micro CSL E9. It was, actually, surprisingly good to look at. The best of these little K sportsters outside the Cappuccino.

@jamiepeterson5646
@jamiepeterson5646 4 жыл бұрын
@@nicolaumb7494 The prototypes were penned shortly after the AW11 came out, so yeah, it definitely was a heavy influence on the design. The AW11 was the car that revived the pure sports car in Japan (as in having a dedicated 2-seat sports car chassis with no "practical" version available). If it hadn't been a success, I doubt Mazda would've even considered the mid-engined layout - it's definitely not a common layout for Japanese cars. However, the MR2 similarities are more than skin deep! Mazda, being a small company with a big range of cars, actually contracted one of their parts suppliers, Kurata, to do the production and assembly of the AZ-1. Kurata (now called KEYLEX) did an official presentation at the 25th anniversary meeting of the AZ1. They went on record saying that since it was their first time producing a full car, they purchased an MR2 in May 1990 (so it would've been an SW20) and disassembled it to study the way it was put together. All in all, it means both the first and second gen MR2s played a part in making the AZ-1 come to life.
