On the perfect-bonkers scale, this finds itself stuck between the 911 on one side and the F-Type R on the other. One might see that a disadvantage (it's neither flawless nor ridiculous), but that makes it the one to buy. The 911 is better for a track day, but will someday bore you, causing you to regret your purchase. The F-Type is great fun for a day, but it's terrible for everyday driving. The AMG GT S falls right into the sweet spot of being usable but never boring. That's why it's so good.

Nicolas Cage is God from logic, and from knowing ricers... just look at the design! you're in a tight parking space? well, you can't get out. you're in a parking garage with a low ceiling? well, you're gonna smash the door against it. the lambo doors at least only partially have the first problem, the sls doors need like a meter on each side to open! it looks cool without a doubt, but it's a totally flawed concept.

+givemeajackson Actually gullwing doors require less room than a conventional door because they open from the middle. Since most cars that have gullwing door are very low having to worry about hitting the ceiling is unlikely.

GREAT REVIEW. HELPED ME MAKE UP MY DECISION AND BUY THE AMG GTS. I TEST DROVE 570S, 911 TURBO S AND PREVIOUSLY OWNED AN AUDI R8 V10. THIS CAR JUST STOLE MY HEART. THE SOUNDS, THE LOOK OUTSIDE AND IN. TOO BAD YOU COULDNT TRY THE CAR IN SPORT PLUS AND IN RACE BECAUSE EVERYTHING TIGHTENS UP AND THE EXHAUST BACK FIRES LIKE AN AK47 ON DOWNSHIFTS. FOR THE PRICE THIS IS YOUR BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK IF YOU WANT A WELL BALANCED SPORTS CAR. FOUND THAT THE 911 AND THE R8 WERE TOO CLINICAL. MCLAREN WAS GORGEOUS BUT LOTS OF ELECTRICAL KINKS STILL IN THAT CAR. THE AMG WAS THE PERFECT ANSWER TO WHAT I WANTED IN A GT CAR. FOR THE MUSCLE CAR FANBOYS I HAVE A SHELBY GT350R AND LOVE IT AS WELL.

I get a little feeling of it being a "Benzed" out version of a Chrysler Crossfire. Maybe because I worked with a guy who had one and I saw it everyday. But the engine is what makes this car. 503 hp in something that small must feel awesome.

It looks like an amazing car but I can't help but be disappointed that it doesn't have the gullwing doors anymore. Sure they probably adversely affect performance, but it just makes a car that much more special feeling and is a throwback to that original 300SL, and as we all know, throwback is good.

Whenever I see these high end car reviews all I can think of how the car manufacturers and dealers are making a killing in savings on marketing. It would cost them hundreds of thousands to produce videos like this through an ad agency. Instead, they just loan out the car for a few days and they get the equivalent of a global 10 minute TV commercial. Pretty sweet trade off.
