He did say he isn't interested in those variants though, likely because it no longer becomes a good value proposition. That being said, in Australia, the old GT is still holding alot of value at over USD$120k for a low mileage example, and for a similar mileage GTR for around $40k more.

@@jlgroovetek Same thing here in Brazil. It has not gotten cheap.
@CaseyCollier5 ай бұрын
@@jlgroovetek The problem is: are you really doing the first generation of AMG GT justice if you don't cover the more performance-oriented versions of the car? This is especially the case for a car review KZbin channel where the content skews heavily in favor of performance cars. The GT S, GT R, and GT Black Series all drive quite differently than the base model, as you would expect. It would therefore make sense to drive those models as well, so you have a clear picture of the entire lineup.
@memememine15 ай бұрын
@@CaseyCollier while all faster none of those ever achieved the balance the base model did. When the original gts came out it blew everyone away. It won mt's 2015 best drivers car beating out stuff like the 981 gt4 for all the reasons Thomas explainrd. Mercedes introduced rear steer and many suspension changes on the later higher performance models. While they added performance it gave the car a disconnected feeling as the rear steer always made the rear feel like it had compliance. The car lost its amazing immediately trustworthy balance.
@CaseyCollier5 ай бұрын
@@memememine1 I'm not sure that's entirely true. While the steering feel may have been lost to some degree in the later models, can you really say with 100% certainty that the GT S, GT R, and GT Black Series aren't generally well-balanced cars that give the driver confidence when throwing them into a corner? Given that I believe they are, I would have to disagree with your characterization, there. Ultimately, I think if Thomas drove those three models, he'd likely have a blast in them. Sure, having a pure experience in the original base model GT is great, and I'm not trying to diminish that experience at all. What I am saying, though, is that if you want to truly understand the capabilities of the GT platform as a whole, you'll need to drive the higher performance models. It's the same for any performance-oriented car. As a reviewer, you can't truly grasp all the intricacies and capabilities of the 911 platform without driving the higher performance models in the lineup either.

To sum it up, these are some bullet points on the new AMG GT compared to its predecessor: - They added 350 Kg (770lb), in the sports car world that's an absurd amount of added weight - They ditched the transaxle design - They ditched the dry sump system - They ditched the front-mid engine layout - They ditched hydraulic steering - They made it AWD - Oh, it now has a big iPad center screen, yay! I guess its now truer to its Gran Turismo name tag but still. It's wrong on so many levels...

As a former AMG GTS owner, I definitely feel a profound sense of sadness about the direction Mercedes has decided to go with their entire lineup of vehicles. Too digital - Mercedes now collects data on you (see Mozilla's privacy report) data that can influence the price of your insurance. Every car in the lineup has too many tech gimmicks, like expensive screens and haptic buttons that nobody likes. They're subjectively less beautiful, lines softened that otherwise defined AMG's muscle. Call me old fashioned if you'd like, but there's a beauty in analog gauges and a screen-less driving experience. Love you Mercedes, but we're over for now. xoxo

I have had 3 cx5s for my wife. An 18 a 21 and a 24 All perfect. No issues ever. None ever driven past 80k, though. We recently added a cx30, and it had the same kind of rough drive in the first few gears as you describe in the 70. The shifting was kind of rough compared to the cx5. And that is weird because the 30 and the cx5 have the same eng and Trans. But after 1500k miles, the cx30 is shifting normal now.

The criticisms of the new GT are interesting: It doesn’t have buttons (remember when phones had buttons? It was the 90’s) It’s AWD and purists love RWD. Except on a 911. I like the old one, and it’s cheaper (and older) I like my half the price M4/Jag/Lexus which is better than this car that I have not driven. It’s not as fast in the quarter mile as a stripped down sports car like the Vette. It’s for golf (the people buying this don’t golf. Hate to tell you, this is designed for gen X and gen X despises golf) The Vantage is better (if slower and way more expensive) If/when the screen breaks (whoever heard of a broken screen in a Mercedes?) you can’t control the climate. Well other than ‘Hey Mercedes, I’m cold’ Mostly they come down to ‘I don’t have one, so you shouldn’t either’. And yet, when you drive one, even the 55 which is mostly what is available for test drives, it’s thrilling in the real world. It growls and spits in the way that every flat 6 doesn’t. It does flatter you in the way that a rwd ‘purist’ school sports car doesn’t (I had a Z4M that when you turned a corner at speed you either needed new underwear or saw a tree then hit it. Sideways). It flatters but doesn’t take control the way a 911 does, it’s brutal not clinical. When you know MBUX the controls are deep and complex, but not frustrating the way BMW or AM are. So if you want a daily driver that is also slightly crazy on the way to Starbucks. A GT that you can use for a long weekend getaway. That growls at you like a junk yard dog that knows you, but may rip your arm off anyway. A drive that is beautiful from every angle when you are getting in and out of it (why are BMW so ugly these days?). A cockpit that is just a nice place to be. Something that eats the miles comfortably and is still quick off the line and in a lap time? Something that isn’t the obvious yet basic 911 every other bald middle aged guy round here drives. That’s what I wanted. And that’s why this is the car for me. And the 63, compared to the 55, is just more. More of all of it.

The new one has nothing to do with being an AMG GT. I hate this strategy Mercedes is doing. It's actually the successor to the SL and the GT and therefor combining them.

The older I get, the more I appreciate front-engine design and usability. My DD for the last three years has been a C7 Z06 Corvette. While it is extremely usable due to massive trunk space, it is still very inconvenient. Having to take certain routes or avoid locations that cause me to scrape my nose is exhausting. After DDing this car for years, I finally just added a Mazda CX-70 to my garage, and it's making me dislike my Z06 more and more every time I drive it. Performance-wise, absolutely no question. The Z06 is a freaking monster. I even went for the Turbo S model of the CX-70 to keep some of that sporty feel. But it doesn't compare to the raw, on-the-bull-for-8-seconds feeling of flooring the Z06. But that level of inconvenience surely cannot overcome the inconvenience of higher performance, mid-engine supercars. More and more, I'm learning that cars like Lambos, Ferraris, etc. are horrible daily drivers. I'd honestly rather have a ~$80K luxury-performance sedan or SUV over a LaFerrari. My dream garage ATM would have to be a C6 ZR1, an SLS AMG (love the AMG GT, but SLS is timeless), a Bentley Bentayga, and a Ford Raptor. Hypercars are cool to see and ridiculous to experience in a track setting. But real world? Not usable.

Even with the right strategies and appropriate assets, investment returns can differ among investors. Recognizing the vital role of experience in investment success is crucial. Personally, I understood this significance and sought guidance from a market analyst, significantly growing my account to nearly a million. Strategically withdrawing profits just before the market correction, I'm now seizing buying opportunities once again.
