It's just standard set collection with a good bidding mechanism. I think the set collection and token upgrading feels a bit gamery too.

I got it for free, taking advantage of that promotion, along with Mystery Express. I was interested in Mystery Express and I knew very little about Cargo Noir. Ended up getting rid of ME and keeping this one. All you say about this game (and others) is definitely true. Thank you for your videos

The fact that Cargo Noirs main mechanic is auctions is probably the reason it didn't become very popular. In my experience most casual gamers just don't enjoy that mechanic as much as more serious gamers. I love auction games but my family groans everytime I pull out a Knizia or a euro game that centers on auctions. My taste in games aligns pretty well with yours so I am sure I would like this game.

It's an auction that doesn't feel like an auction! But anyway, auctions have really fallen out of favour in the last 15 or 20 years, even among hobbyists.

I am sure you'd love Tulip Bubble then... the auctions are similar, but there is a reward for participating, plus there is a fluctuating market.

I love Cargo Noir. Gets no love but it is great. My only issue is the last round feels not good so I might be playing it wrong.
