The electric ship doesn’t solve current shipping problems. More tonnage capacity is and should be their main focus. This will also cut down shipping prices.

@brianhaygood183

Those two things aren't exactly related. I worked on some equipment in a warehouse almost 15 years ago in the US in which 110ft tall shelves were all serviced by automated pickers that brought pallets to individual robots that carried them through the factory so workers could take what items they wanted directly from the pallets to fill orders. The system would then automatically store the pallets back on the shelves. The human part of the line was fairly small compared to the robotic side of the warehouse that was massive. Pretty neat.

that prime robotic drone is the dumbest idea this century, how long do you think it will last in a hood? It won't make it without being stolen or robbed by the first opportunist to spot it wandering freely without supervision. One barbeque cover and it won't know who or what just abducted it and is carrying it off to the electronics chop shop. Who seriously thinks this is at all practical in this world? smh

Many of these seem like they’d have difficulty functioning in the real world, although the remote controlled truck one seems like one that is somewhat viable. Being able to swap out drivers instantaneously at the end of the previous drivers shift or on breaks does appear to be a decent way to overcome SOME of a drivers limitations, however how a system like this can handle accidents or criminal activity remains to be seen. If the trucks are electric there would have to be a significant investment into an infrastructure system for recharging them (or swapping power cores) as well as the initial investment in the trucks themselves. I do like it better than the “pie-in-the-sky” dreams of completely automated trucks.

Curious how one would perform pretrip safety checks, deal with minor on the go type of repairs that a driver would normally perform on his own, his things like minor accidents/fender benders would be handled, etc. I’m sure there’s more, but it does actually sound like a viable possibility of becoming the new way. Obviously it won’t ever replace all traditional trucking. I don’t see how anything other than container loads could be handled by remote. There’s just too much to an oversized heavy haul load.

This is preparation for the “future”… just as car electrification is (aka EV’s), you’d do well to imagine what it’ll be like once these have been perfected.

Delivery robots are only practical in high density areas close to distribution centres. For greater distances, use a larger autonomous vehicle supported with smaller delivery robots. Prime movers are unnecessary for larger carrying vehicles as the large vehicle should be designed to go in any direction at any suitable speed with drive/steering wheels at either end. Also why do they keep designing autonomous vehicles with a front and back? There's no reason to have a front or back, put that part underneath between the wheels and why can't it unload at either end or sideways as well? So much money wasted on futuristic concepts still based on traditional ideals.

While being anti technology and pro human is not the worst thing a person could be it is a fact that technology has helped humans be more effective in their work. We all have work to do there is just more that one person can accomplish now.
@FloatTheBuizel
@FloatTheBuizel 2 жыл бұрын
well who will repair the tech? The humans, so most likely the new jobs is just monitoring the equipment and repairing them when needed, so there will be jobs still but you are right, using technology eliminates jobs, *some* jobs
@justinweatherford8129
@justinweatherford8129 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesbarber5410 technology has taken away people's ability to earn a living with simple handy crafts, without having to heavily invest in tools. In the early 1900's a person who had a run of difficulty finding employment could make up for that lack of employment by crafting things for their community, without spending tons of money on equipment. Consider this try weaving a 1yd × 1yd sheet of fabric by hand. Now multiply the number of hours that you spent working on it by the minimum wage in your area to come up with a minimum price for the sheet of fabric that you have made. Now take that sheet of fabric to a local fabric shop and compare your price vs sheets of fabric of similar size. I can almost guarantee that you will not find a single sheet of fabric that comes anywhere near as expensive as the sheet of fabric that you had made, and those sheets of fabric are going to be perceived as being much better quality. You said that technology hasn't taken away jobs, but has just made jobs easier? I'm sorry, but technology has only made jobs easier for those who can find them, and more difficult for people who are struggling. Please remember that a person who is struggling doesn't have thousands to millions of dollars to spend on a single machine loom.

These videos of electric trucks are a joke. The world can BARELY keep the lights on as it is and yet you people keep pushing all electric vehicles, especially trucks. Do you have any idea how trucking works and the costs associated, or how they are passed on to the consumer? So when fresh fruits and vegetables are shipped they will have double the shipping time, and cost increased accordingly. And when these trucks are charging, who is giving up their lights so a trucker and hundreds of elec cars can charge? Quadruple the number of nuclear power plants, instead of closing them, and you MIGHT be able to power these things.

Half of these “solutions” are just worse versions of transportation methods of the 1900s. Rail will always be superior in every way, as for containers we already have quite frankly the best standardized system out there, all pallets and shipping containers are currently at the best state. Sure box sizing is still not all that good but again, trains are just the best solution.

some of those are esthetically nice ... but that's it ... hyperloop is a joke: trains do it way better automated vehicules are NOT a good idea (automated trains on the other hand ...) the Prime delivery robot is also another joke ... not even talking about the fact it would get robbed every time but it's way too small and would need to be refilled every 3 or 4 deliveries ... and yeah make it all electric so you gonna need even more of the nuclear power plants you want to shut down (even if it's the most efficient and ecological way to get electricity ...) all I see is waste of time and money that could be used in providing and implementing REAL solutions ...
