CargoTrans C-160 maiden

Delightful little twin cargo plane. Will drop a wing in slow downwind turns but otherwise no bad habits. Undercambered wing allows slow flying with care. Wings are a bit too flexy, could use a full length spar. 2200 2S or 1300 3S LiPos are OK. Even 2200 3S is no problem. CG at 45 to 50mm. Flying weight 705g.

This model is identical to the GWS C-160 originally released in 2004.
The Transall C-160 is a French/German design and was never used by USAF so I swapped to the French flag. But I think the fuselage shape is more like a Lockheed C-130, with two motors instead of four.

After viewing the build and this video I ordered one and it flew like a bird, no trim needed, didn't bother with 2s, loaded a 3s 1500 straight in, mine came with contra rotating props, so no toque effect. This model flies way better than one would expect for the price paid. Highly recommend this plane, esp as it will take off easily from a rough grass field and land nicely with no damage to the undercart. So well behaved! Thank you Andrew Newton for the spot on review.

Ha ha That is a great plane. Looks amazing in the air. I think if I had it i might put some carbon fiber in the wings, sort of scared me a few times when it started to fly like a sea gull ha ha !! The landing gear looked very nice and worked well on the grass. Good job Andrew, nice flying as usual. I am waiting for my Zohd Dart Xl to arrive and the snow to go away! Happy Flying

This now has Upgraded Decals. Also the option of C130 4 engine layout. C160 has a different Nose so thinking this was meant to be C130 from the outset. Looks Cool as 4 Engine much better than Twin.

Interesting way of mounting the motors! From what I've seen, you can mount them on the rear part of the motor mount and then stick the front part of the motor mount, over the motor. You just need to cut a hole in the front to let the motor shaft stick out for the propeller.

Might want to place some clear packing tape across the wing tip to tip to reduce the wing flutter. Sure looks good in the air, very nice scale. As always, thanks for another super build & flight video.

That Cargo Trans looks closely scale but if it were lighter it might be able to circuit without impending tip stalls. Well, the weight isn't in the wing spars. Pretty darn good at grass takeoffs. Thanks, Andrew!

Excellent Mick. The foam needs to be cleaned or scuffed up for glue to stick properly, and I would put a longer stiffer spar in before attaching the nacelles.

You have very good and small props on it. On mine the props are huge. There is less than 3 centimeters to the ground. That makes taking off from the grass for me impossible. Im thinking about to buy smaller ones. P.S Great flight

very cool. i think because the plane is bright white your onboard camera meter is thrown off so everything else just looks dark. if your plane were a pale blue or gray it would be easier on the camera metering.

Correct Dave. Hatcam is the Firefly 8SE 90º, I need to do a close comparison of the 8S and 8SE. I suspect the 8S image quality may be a little better.

Nice plane not my 1st pick for airframe. I see you're using an x7- white like mine. This radio feels so good form factor is perfect. My x9d is for backup and training. And luckily I've got a spectrum dxe that will drive the blade 230 collective pitch night led helicopter I just bought. It arrives Monday night and Seattle is in the grips of a winter snow storm I'm going to miss work for sure how unfortunate. Have you ever lived for a delivery? Don't mean to be disrespectful for mentioning a copter on your channel- you strictly fly planes I know!

Didn't the full size have Flaps Andrew?, it flies a bit too fast for scale. It may have been better if they had thickened the wing up a little more...I would have put those ESCs in the Fuz out of the way, those mini quad motors won't stretch them. Its one of those models you need to be on the ball with because a tip Stall is never far away.....lol. Looks nice though, I wonder if they will amend the decal set...?

Decal set has been like that for 15years so change is unlikely. I think it's actually based on the C-130 fuselage shape.

Hello Vincent. This is not a good plane to learn on. I would strongly recommend you learn about flying and RC electronics on something like a Bixler or AXN style pusher motor glider. Recommended motors are on the product page, link in the description.
