The MPV is dead, long live the MPV!
The Volkswagen Multivan is proof that there might yet still be live in the MPV formula.
Rumours of the demise of the MPV have been greatly exaggerated. Sure, the popularity of this once-popular bodystyle - one focused on ultimate practicality - has been seriously on the wane due to the incessant rise of the SUV, and many models have disappeared as a result. But, the new VW Multivan proves that the genre isn't quite dead yet.
The Multivan is the successor to the Caravelle, an MPV that was based on the Transporter van. However, the new car shares much more with the Golf underneath than it does with any commercial conveyance. It also happens to look the absolute business.

the fact that you can get out on the left hand side or through the sliding doors is the best feature, the front floor looks absolutely flat and there is no irritating centre console to stop you moving across or from front to back.

48k and you have to struggle with lifting the tailgate in your pretty summer dress.I bet if it has automatic tailgate it's expensive option.

I think this looks great. I love the 2-tone paint on this example and I like how the downwards diagonal cut for the hood (bonnet?) gives the illusion of a 'one box' design. I also dig the cavernous and practical interior and would take this over an SUV or generic crossover any day. Also, I think Rebecca is looking especially lovely in this review. :)

The biggest farce for these MPV's is that the 360 degree camera should be standard. The Euro buffs are always blabbing about safety. Try parking safely into narrow spot. So rather than blabbing about the other features, maybe criticise Euro manufacturers regarding this.

Does it come from the factory with solar on top to charge the batt pack on days when you don't drive it or when you have it parked at work? With that much roof space you could easily get ten to twenty miles a day of free charge from the sun.

I would be in the market for one of these, but it's a massive miss on two counts. Firstly, it doesn't have 8 seats. Why VW did the caravelle with 7 and this beast with 7 as well is beyond me, when the V Class and the Tourneo have 8 seats. Secondly, it is woefully underpowered. Why the pathetic 150ps diesel when again the V and Tourneo come with much more powerful engines? Silly old VW!

If anyone can advise on my dilemma: we are taking a trip through Germany next year, and need space for 3 adults, 1 toddler with car seat, 4 bags, a wheelchair and a pram, then hand luggage etc. Is a VW multivan, a Opel vivaro 9 seater, or a Peugeot rifter 7 seater the best vehicle in terms of space?

The design is absolutely brilliant, so modular and flexible but quite underpowered. Also for a similar price or a little bit more, one could get a Kia Sorrento or even a Genesis GV80, which are overall much better to drive and have a more premium feel with longer warranties.

My wallet ran away when it saw those heater control's. Was actually interested until that point. Existing T6 and below has no NCAP, so ive discounted as a family option, so might go and find a Galaxy now, disappointing...

The infotainment and touch sensitive climate controls on vws are absolutely terrible and rage inducing when on the move. This thing is not a good looking car at all and the wheels look oddly small

Toyota Alphard does all this, but far better. 8 seats, swivelling and sliding, electric doors, more space and more flexibility, dual climate aircon, panoramic roof, and Toyota reliability too.

@@lise1255 I have a series 10 2005 2WD 2.4l petrol and use it daily for school runs / early years and family use - 150k miles and it is still comfy and looks like new, in and out. The new ones are silly money though and do look hideous / ridiculous.
