In 1993 I surfed at Jaco, drove through the night, and swam at Limon the next morning. I swam in the Pacific and the Atlantic in under 24 hours, best memory of my life!

It's worth it for a few days. The food is more flavorful thanks to Jamaican and other Caribbean descendants bring flavor and vibes. San Jose's food is meh..to me at least. I've traveled to the Caribbean side as a solo traveler and I've lived to tell the tales. People should visit and try not to be deterred by the ppl that say "don't go, it's dangerous" or "do you know about those ppl over there?" . Act like you have sense, be respectful and enjoy! I loved this video,Pura Vida!

Exactly! Thank you! 👏🏾 Hate people talking smack about Limon, especially when most haven't even taking the time to explore the province... We know what they mean by "those people over there"... 🙄

I absolutely loved the video!! Maybe because I spent 3 months in Puerto Viejo and just left a month ago. In the first days I was told that I have to be aware of crimes and what so ever but during my time there I never got into any dangerous situation. Of course you should pay attention at night and don´t walk alone but I don´t think its more dangerous than in any European or American city if you are in the wrong place in a wrong time it can happen anywhere. As you said you can definitely leave out the "bigger" cities like Limon and Tortugero ( if you wanna see some alligators you should go anyways) but videos cant show the real beauty of the southern Caribean coast its hard to comprehend how the atmosphere, the people, the surfing vibe and all the different colors and animals (especially in Cahuita NP and Manzanillo RP) create this Pura Vida life, and you can only experience by going there. If you have the chance PLEASE go there and I promise everyone will feel comfortable no matter if it is in a resort or in a backpacker hostel. No matter if it is at the beach, Spa, Party or exploring the jungle. But maybe go when it is dry season so that heavy rain can not cross your plans. ;)
@theinbetween013 жыл бұрын
The people have less and are more Caribbean ( darker) in Lemon ect. So broke = dangerous and crime to some.

What is the dry season for Puerto Viejo?
@philipkraushaar7382 жыл бұрын
@@pimpingpatriarchy its from mid August to mid November and March to May. If it rains it will only take a couple of minutes until it stops... But it can and will rain heavily nonetheless rivers will partly dry up. The rest of the year is rain season. So its still hot but also cloudy and unbelievable humid. Thats for the Caribbean coast. If you planning on travelling the Pacific coast the season may be completely different. Thats because of mountains that divide the country into west and east coast.

I go to Costa rica in half september bcs cheap flight is it good go to Puerto viejo in this time? I plan also visit Cahuita park
@philipkraushaar7382 жыл бұрын
@@monijika till mid November you don´t have to worry about rainy weather of course there will be rain sometimes but normally it doesn´t last longer than an hour. And definitely go to Cahuita you will see wild life the more attention you pay the more animals you will see. Snorkeling near the coast is okay because corals and stuff are dead in that area but you will see some fishes. You can book a " Tour" which is basically takes you just a little further away from the coast to have a better experience. But you decide if its worth it because I don´t know ;). At the park entry there will be Locals that offer you guided Tours in Cahuita YOU DONT NEED THAT. I mean obviously they know things better in the park than you do and they will probably find animals easier. But I liked that place because itv was for free and I could have a great day there without paying anything. And you cant miss the trail is pretty easy to follow it!

Oh boy, you know my own country better than me. I was in Limon for the first time in over 50 years. I know more about the East coast from Key West to NY. Next time in Costa Rica i will definitely spend more time in Limon.

We love PV and the biggest challenge is the zig and zagging through Heredia to get to Zurqui from SJO car pick-up. HWY 32 is also a challenge with the construction with hazardous lane changes. Waze is great for warning you of those. As I love staying a couple of nights in Turrialba for hiking and rafting, we take to old route to the Carribean with a stop in Orosi. Having been to CR a zillion times, I only do beach stays in PV.

I already liked the video. My husband and I are planning a trip to Costa Rica, that is in hold cause of corona. I don't think it is smart at the moment to make a trip of over 13 hours! Anyway, I m trying to learn more about the country. How is it about criminality? You said there r some places u should not go, but how to know it when you are for the first time there? Our idea was to rent a car there to explore better. My fear is that the navigation drives us to the wrong places. Thanks for the video!
@IslandHopperTV3 жыл бұрын
Aside from San Jose I didn’t notice any other concerns. I found Anywhere on Nicoya Penninsula to be the safest. Other safe areas include LA Fortuna and Dominical and Uvita. Generally speaking the Pacific coast side is considered safer than the Caribbean side

How would you compare living in Costa Rica to hawaii (big island)
@IslandHopperTV3 жыл бұрын
I don’t consider it very comparable. Spanish speaking, different beaches, different sand, different food. Takes a long time to get places. More animals in Costa Rica. I guess it’s sort of like Hilo in some places. But Imagine Hilo with everyone speaking Spanish, and lots of Costa Rican food and way more animals in the first…

I recognize you from your Arizona channel. ls Costa Rica safe for senior women to solo travel?
@IslandHopperTV Жыл бұрын
Let’s put it like this i commonly saw solo female backpackers around Costa Rica. Even late at night walking alone and riding mopeds alone etc. I would always recommend taking general safety precautions but I would say yes much of Costa Rica is safe for solo females. The two places that I noticed to be a bit more sketchy than others were the capital of San Jose and Jaco area. Not that bad but a bit more scammers in those places

Missing the national park in manzanillo is basically 50% of the puerto viejo experience, no wonder why you titled the video with a question mark, cause you also missed from 2 to 3 ohter beaches besides the ones inside the national park, Limon is not a touristic site and it is one of the poorest provinces, so it is better to stay away from it, but puerto viejo is almost 50 km to the south of Limon
@everettclark66322 жыл бұрын
you don't know what you are talking about
@XtaC78 Жыл бұрын
@@everettclark6632 Exactly! 💯 Can't stand people always speaking negatively about Limon, especially when they don't even bother exploring the province... Sad thing is a lot of Costa Ricans from other regions of the country are the one who usually have something bad to say about Limon and its inhabitants (mostly Afro/Caribbean decedents) and some have never even set foot there... 🙄
