I use to live and run a club there ( Hot Rocks ) , I loved it - best variety of food in Costa Rica and the most beautiful beaches and areas. The longer you live there , the cheaper things get because you learn the ins and outs of the town - it would be a great place for yaw to settle down for a while . I lived there for a few years and it changed my life , I no longer live to work, I work to live and I always try to take time to smell the roses 🌹. One of the hardest things I have ever done is to get on a plane to return to the U.S. to get my affairs and $$ in order to continue that life style. But I am real close to living a truly pure vida lifestyle. When people mention freedom , I always think of puerto viejo , living there is a truly wonderful experience.

I just returned from a week there! I chose it because it was a little more affordable than the Pacific side but I feel like I discovered the best kept secret of Costa Rica. I loved everything about the place: The vibe, the beaches, the jungle, the people, the animals. It was a graduation trip for my 18 year old daughter and she loved it as much as I did. Either we're really good at choosing restaurants or you just can't find bad food there. Excellent video!

When I was in San Jose and asked about Puerto Viejo, the local people did not have a favourable opinion of the place.We went anyway by bus from San Jose. The ticket guy at the bus depot, once he realised our Spanish was not very good sold us 2 "standing only" seats and the people behind us (locals who spoke perfect Spanish) in the bus line were sold proper seats for the 4 hour school bus ride to PV. When I got off the bus 2 or 3 guys came up to me trying to sell me drugs. We went to a cheap hotel that consisted of a pipe in the wall for a shower and a toilet that didn't flush, barely a mattress and lizards scuttling around in the walls all night. Breakfast was at this place outside that had alot of flies competing for our food with us. The beach was full of stones, and we rented 2 bikes that broke down on us at the furthest point from the rental place forcing us to walk back. Every time I bought something with cash the locals always short changed me and then pretended to not know what I was talking about when I called them out on it.The guy selling us the return tickets to San Jose, once again when he saw that our Spanish was not very good, tried the "standing room" trick but we caught it and made him sell us numbered seats. When we got on the bus we saw others (foreigners) who were angry that they were sold standing room tickets. 2 girls from France and a couple from Germany had to stand for 4 hours like we did. This was my honest experience in beautiful Puerto Viejo.
@TheYarbros2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. Sounds horrible...we had a great time...the worst part was definitely the bus ride though. No matter what a place is or isn't in our hearts it is only a measure of the experiences we have while there. I have quite a few cities that I don't care for simple because of my experiences while there...cities that other ppl love.

I actually had a guy come at me with a machete about 13 years ago in a bar in Puerto Viejo, but I think it was mistaken identity, because he wasn't trying to rob me. he tried to slice me right away. I always heard great things about Viejo and actually visited before and didn't have a problem. Maybe one day I'll work up enough courage to go back, because I know those situations are rare. Looks like y'all having a great time out there in CR. Do you think that place might be your forever home? I'm super motivated to get there now.

This is definitely a contender for one of our places to call home. Soo relaxing, engaging and fun with plenty to do.

Greetings! Do you develop a guide for Puerto Viejo? Looks like a place I would enjoy checking out. Thanks

No, we didn't make a guide for Puerto Viejo...but if there is demand we will!
