I've known Carina since we were both 16: both giggling girls, sat in the dressing room hearing those early songs locked in her demos vaults of now long forgotten chords played on rusty strings..... ....... Out of everything she has written, this is by far her best and most profound lyrics. It's her "case of you" (Joni Mitchell) moment. Especially when combined with other tracks from this EP: 1. Backseat (holds all the joyful moments and love my brother felt for others, and I can't listen to it without crying) 2. Do you -- a song of love, jealousy, protection of loved ones. Emotions and layers so deep in meaning, no wonder it took a year to write. 3. For everything a Reason -- the more musically dramatic, but placed with the other two songs, the perfect ending to what is equivalent to Joni's Blue album or Tori's debut Little Earthquakes (especially the more personal B Sides of the first 3 of Tori's albums). Carina grows with each album too: musically, storytelling, and as a person. She doesn't write to the strict timetables of record companies, as her albums flow straight from the arteries of her heart in to your ears and mind and soul: in that sense, her song writing is written not to the pace of contracts, nor drum beats and 4:4 time, but to the more important rhythm of an echocardiogram showing the pulses of emotions in her and empathy for those she loves. Buy her back catalogue. Listen in sequence, the stories of all of our lifetimes are beautifully and painfully and joyfully and sardonically drawn for us.

Carina has to be one of the most underrated singer-songwriters of this generation, it's crazy that most people who have discovered her only did so by her Puscifer-fame (myself included). What a lucky coincidence that the background singer of a side-project of the Tool vocalist happens to be an incredible artitst in her own regard, the likes of Joni Mitchell.

@@robertpiwonski1215 yeah, it was this kinda ironic unfunny joke for years, as people would keep being her support act for her tours, then they'd go stratospheric, and she was still struggling to make it. However the one thing is, at least people come to Carina now with this whole back catalogue of music to fall in love with. She's not left with the dreaded "second album syndrome" and a pushy record company, which can destroy careers. There's no expectations for her to write more, as she's already laid open so much of her most private feelings. Absolute perfectionist though, so if she's writing with Puscifer, it's likely all her creativity is siphoned off there. But I do hope she writes her own album soon.... Or finally does her cover versions album (as a 3-5 CD thing, with lives, b-sides, remixes, and completely reworked songs like Ani DiFranco does -- the two versions of Elegy are vastly different, same with Stolen Car.... And the live version of "on leaving" where she inserts Ricki Lee Jones coolsville... I'd love to hear Puscifer remix the songs "slow motion addict", "motel 74", "lacuna", "lightbulb song", "message to Apollo" and "the waves" too.). I think we really need a 5 CD/album collectors thing or reworks, remixes, lives, do-overs, out takes, demos, very early demos, and all the amazing covers (Sinead O'Connor, Prefab Sprout, Damn Your Eyes, Hot Stuff, etc), if Carina is up for that.

Loved seeing this comment! I’ve been following her since 2010 or so-I heard her first on KCRW. When I heard her, I thought to myself: she’s like the female version of Maynard! I felt so vindicated that she was later picked up by him for Puscifer! I have to admit, I am sad that that has meant she hasn’t been putting out solo music in nearly a decade, though. I absolutely love her voice, her songwriting, and singing along with her.

This song is up there with Joni Mitchell's "blue album" or the first 3 Tori Amos albums, for me... I can see why it took Carina over a year to write, with numerous mixes whittled down to this beautiful perfection.... Followed up with "For Everything a Reason", just leaves you with your heart in your hands and a puddle of tears streaming from your arteries. I hope she's working on her own solo work again soon, I love her work with Puscifer, but solo is so raw and so much has happened since Tigermending came out.

I am one who believes in Jimcroft with all my heart. All three being geniuses Jim deserves to end up with Mycroft who would respect his genius and would do anything for him. As for Sherlock he is too much in denial of his emotions and doesn’t think he needs love and pleasure in his life. If you feel that way you can’t give love to someone else. Your choice of playlist is intriguing and lovely. Youth and beauty are fleeting with both BBC Sherlock and Jim being in their forties they are both getting to the point where they need to make a choice. “Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and beautiful”???
