This research was done by the US Army at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland with German Shepherds around 1960.What was found is that in the first ten days of birth puppies with resting heart rates of 150 beats or higher per minute were easier to train and handled stress better (think training). The thinking was also that introducing stress in the first days of life increased this ability to deal with stress and pain later in life. By the time puppies reach one month the resting heart rate settles out around 130 (or so). I believe it holds true based on my observations.

Thank you for some great videos, there is quite a lack of finding comprehensive info and your videos have been very helpful

Thank you for doing these videos, they are very helpful 😊 we now use the same tail method vs. Cut & stitches at the Vet much better way. Now we will be doing the ENS for our Mini Australian Shepard puppies.

I am curious, how are tails/dews being done? When vets do it everything is numbed up and sterile. Seems like this would HURT?

@@abd8531 I have never seen a vet numb any of the parts worked on???? I do use standard Sterilised antiseptic precautions along with steriled tools.

@@abd8531 I watch my vet do a V snip in the puppies tail & then stitch it which was way more painful the the tie method used here. We have done 28 puppies tail & dew claws by this method & ha zero issues with minimum pain to our pups.

@@abd8531 so 2 dew claws times 28 & not all of our tails ne to be dock as some are born that way, so I would say 2/3's need to be docked.

?? Do you monitor this? Someone else asked if this can be done after 16 days? Is there any issue doing it later if say there at three weeks?

Curioous what you did to tails and why?

Why do you do that to the tails? Is it purely cosmetic?
@StandingStoneKennels

Because it isn’t purely cosmetic.

@@StandingStoneKennels I was just really curious because some breeds do do that for cosmetic purposes. Anyways enjoy your videos!

Hi! Newbie furmum here. My GS puppies are already 3weeks. Can I still do the biosensors for them?
@StandingStoneKennels
@StandingStoneKennels 4 ай бұрын
Congrats on your litter. It will be important to handle the puppies at this point to get them comfortable being handled, but the biosensor training wouldn't have the same benefits of developing stronger cardiac, immune systems etc.

My lab puppies are a lot louder when messed with. Any ideas why? Same age as in this video.

Some puppies/litters/breeds can just be more vocal than others.

Could it be wise to not do both biosensor and first nailclipping on the same day? To avoid overstimulation/stress?
@brandonjohnson5838

the stress is the purpose of ENS.
@mikemorris7885
@mikemorris7885 2 жыл бұрын
It is recommended to skip ENS on days the pups already undergo excessive amounts of stress, i.e. dewclaw removal. Great question/observation.

How do you guys do the tails? I have never seen it done that way. You guys use A vet or do this yourself?
@OfficialZombieStrats
@OfficialZombieStrats 3 жыл бұрын
I believe tying the tails at the earliest age and letting it fall off by stopping circulation is the most ideal way. It heals the best and doesn’t impact the puppy as much if you did the process when they’re older.

I can still hear when I close my ear canals. I assume newborn pups are not totally deaf, and talk to them anyway, holding them against my throat and talking loud.

Whats the human equivalent of this?
@StandingStoneKennels
@StandingStoneKennels 6 ай бұрын
I'm not sure there's a very good equivalent since most human babies are born with their sight and hearing. The idea is to expose them to new things early on to help improve stress responses in the future. Maybe think vacuuming while the baby sleeps so they get used to sleeping through noise? That's the best example I can think up!
