Just watched 2018 version on NBC and for today's standard it will do but overall the main characters wasn't even close! They where kinda like the band on this outtake, rushed and nervous.

@@GGSOG Great vocalists no doubt. But Carl, I don't know, there is something special going on. I can definitely hear the "Little Richard" type growl, or that from early Gospel singers. It really comes across in his interpretation.

I had the privilege of seeing Carl play Judas three times and each and every performance was the best live vocal performance I have ever seen. His voice booms right through to the core and leaves you with goose bumps. I hate that we lost him too soon. RIP Carl Anderson.

I saw the show on this tour. Ted and Carl sang their hearts out. You would have thought it was opening night the way they powered through their performances. All respect for performers who can keep it that fresh after all those years. They were incomparable.

Something about the way they ended this song makes it seem so much more vulnerable than other versions, rather than ending it with “it’s all gone sour” seeing how something beautiful has died it instead ends with a unanswered plea that imo really represents the whole relationship between Judas and Jesus much better

The echo fade out of the original movie where he’s just yelling “listen to me ahhh” is so powerful, but I honestly can’t decide between that and “it’s all gone sour” as I love that final note too

I had the privilege of seeing Carl Anderson and Ted Neeley perform this in somewhere between '95 and '97 in Tampa. They were both amazing live, but Carl just had this "thing" that cannot be surpassed even to this day. Sure, performers like Drew Sarich have created AMAZING performances that are amazing, but Carl Anderson will always hold the top place. RIP, Carl - you really touched and inspired a lot of us. Thank you for the music you gave us.
