Part 6: • Carl Jones on Voicing ...
Part 8: • Carl Jones on Vlad's I...
--------
In this clip, Carl Jones discussed an integral "Boondocks" episode centered around the story of Jimmy Rebel. The controversial episode, featuring possibly politically inappropriate content, only aired once and never saw the light of day again. A narrative was shared about Winston Jerome, a character seen as a representational proxy for Tyler Perry, causing a furor among directors and executives. According to Jones, Tyler Perry was far from pleased with the interpretation. However, the animosity wasn't personal, and he expressed admiration of Perry's accomplishments. Guesses were made about potential insider leaks in Perry's crew, particularly given the realistic portrayal of his business operations within the TV show. The belief was that there might have been a mole on the inside supplying too-accurate details for the show.

@tincredible
@tincredible 10 ай бұрын
What's amusingly ironic is that Tyler having it snatched from the network made the episode one of the most popular, series-defining episodes. I remember it being on World Star Hip-Hop precisely because of Tyler Perry's objection to it. Whenever the powers that be want to deny people access to something, it puts the thing in HIGHER demand. So, if there is an alternative way to access the forbidden fruit, ppl will find it. People develop a heightened curiosity about things when they learn that those things are intentionally being kept away from them. Every "Boondocks" fan I know has seen that episode. Also, this was in 2010. By then, internet content was competing with network TV in popularity, so Tyler's banning efforts were really in vain. TP's efforts probably would have worked if the episode had come out a decade earlier. The creatives may have lost some money, but the world saw it anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if the episode's online viewership was higher than the TV viewership would have been if Tyler had left the issue alone.

Isn't it ironic how Tyler Perry now owns a massive compound where he films shows that are all about sex. And not only that but more specifically he has a show called Ruth that is about a gay cult leader who sleeps with men and wants nothing to do with a woman lol But he had the nerve to get mad. Tyler was upset because he couldn't believe how they could see through his bull shit back then. He tricked millions of Christian based blacks into believing he was a Christian man and now look at him. He bought a compound so that he can live in his truth.

I'm surprised when they told the people from the boondocks to change the character's name from Tyler Perry to something else that it took Adult swim a whole 2 weeks to catch on to the new name given the fact that the last name was the exact same as the last time. 😂😂

Carl is one of the illustrious few that was clapping Ms. Badu (that rhymed lol). I was hoping Vlad asked about that relationship.

Honestly, that's not cool that they tried to name a character after his real name. He changed his name to distance himself from his father. I would think if they discovered his real name, they would've found the reason why he did it.
