In this 1959 clip from the BBC interview series "Face to Face" Carl Jung speaks on the psychological significance of death. He explores the idea that the psyche might transcend the confines of space and time, challenging our conventional understanding of life's end. #philosophy #psychology #carljung #history #existentialism #wisdom #history

Life is not the opposite of death. The opposite of death is birth. Life has no opposite.

It is, actually, heartbreaking to see a very intelligent man so deeply desperate for meaning. Especially the last part of this material betrays the idealist in him. The vast majority of people are happy to be just an insignificant blob in the collective mush no matter how horrible it may be. As for death… it is a constant balance between life and death. Unfortunately, these days living has become barefoot tightrope walking on sharp knife blades that chop individuals as they walk in meaningless directions. Life should have been 100% fully lived and death welcome as the beginning of an adventure. Instead I see people being driven half sleepwalking on those knife edges that mince them slowly and pointlessly. It is horrifying to behold.

There is nothing heartbreaking about this... Is this merely your projection...

@@stuartfrance811 I am just a woman at the mercy of emotions- what can you expect? 🤷🏻‍♀️😁 Speaking about projections… (by the way, there is much in those 6 dots you use to make your point ☺️)… read Plato’s myth of the cave. Jung tried to arrange them in an overly comprehensible manner. Don’t we all?…

@@claudiamanta1943 In my lexicon there is no such thing as 'just a woman'... Nor need any of us be at the mercy of our emotions. The ellipses are a habit picked up from reading Celine... I first read Plato's cave over thirty years ago. Jung was a gnostic hence his insistence on knowledge rather than belief... I can't think of a man with more meaning in his life than CG...

@@stuartfrance811 Yes, Jung was hungry for meaning. Many are. But is settling for any meaning beneficial? There aren’t many meanings on the contemporary cultural market, and those who are most successfully marketed are of an extremely poor quality, if not downright noxious for the human spirit.
