Actually, he is brilliant and extremely educated. You may not like his point and what he is saying, and that is fine, but in no way is Carl Sagan dumb or unintelligent.

I will never forget watching this on PBS back in 1980 and falling in love with science.... Mr. Sagan had a natural talent for making his topics come alive and made one watch with interest and wonder at the nature of the universe his show lit the flame in my soul to want to know and learn all about the world we live in and beyond. What I would give to have Carl Sagan back and enjoy how he made things that others found boring exciting and want to learn about its been over 40 years and that flame that he lit still burns within me to this very day.

The world does not need this dumbass liar. Carl Sagan "The Cosmos is all that is or was or ever will be." Carl Sagan, "I can’t imagine anyone denying the existence of the laws of nature, but I don’t know of any compelling evidence for the old man in the sky." More from the dumbass, "It’s perfectly possible that the universe is infinitely old and therefore uncaused. In fact, there are detailed cosmological models that hold such a view and that are consistent with everything we know. To my mind, it seems not fully satisfactory to say that there was a first cause. That seems to postpone dealing with the problem rather than solving it. If we say “God” made the universe, then surely the next question is, “Who made God?” If we say “God” was always here, why not say the universe was always here? If we say that the question “Where did God come from?” is too tough for us poor mortals to understand, then why not say that the question of, “Where did the universe come from?” is too tough for us mortals? In what way, exactly, does the God hypothesis advance our knowledge of cosmology? What predictions does it make on which the hypothesis will stand or fall?" from: www.uscatholic.org/articles/202001/god-and-carl-sagan-cosmos-big-enough-both-them-31939 Read the article. Have a vomit bag or trash can nearby for what a hypocritical, lying, mocking, disgusting, foolish person he was. Now, Carl the dumbass NEVER can get around these laws and what the lead to... Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it. ....yet the buffoon thinks creation happened naturally, but the idiot says, "What predictions does it make on which the hypothesis will stand or fall?" as the crap-for-brains ignores the CLEAR science that creation had to happen by God supernaturally! Still the fool who ignores the laws farted out, "I don’t know of any compelling evidence for the old man in the sky." Notice his mocking God, "man in the sky" as if that makes him look smart as he completely ignores the evidence. His question, "Who made God?" is as dumb as he is. So in his way of foolish thinking, if a supernatural creator created the natural realm, then that supernatural creator who created the natural realm with its natural laws has then become also bound by those natural laws the supernatural creator created. So explain why a supernatural creator is also bound by the laws the supernatural creator created. Or, show how smart you are and just give your science for creation happening naturally and don't forget to give your science how the natural laws were created, too. If he wanted to act smart, it may be a good idea to actually show you are. Sagan the dumbass will at some point face his Maker for his judgment of what he believed in this life. His extreme shame and regret was all his choice. He wanted to be a hypocritical dumbass. Then he'll be thrown into the lake of fire. It will be his 'The End' and be remembered no more. This is a great illustrator of the Fermi Paradox. Where is the evidence if there are advanced civilizations out there in the universe? Our entire civilization occupies the last ten seconds of this cosmic year. Our technologically advanced stage is in the last second.Allow three to five "Seconds" for any technologically advanced civilization, and it could have grown, lived for even ten times that span, then faded to nothingness two or three or four cosmic "Months" ago. There could be dozens, once a "Minute" for the last five "Months" and the evidence would have been erased by time. The scale of time, and the vastness of the universe makes it highly unlikely that we would find evidence of even the most vast star empire. I blame Star Trek, and like sci-fi TV for making the universe, and the scale of time seem a LOT more condensed than it really is.

They should also scale down the universe to the size of Earth. Then our entire civilization would probably be confined to a single speck of dust. So I can't really share Sagan's enthusiasm at the end - what happens in the first second of the next cosmic year doesn't depend on what we do at all, except for that little speck of dust.

Perspective is what you make of it. It sounds like what you took from it was "what does it matter what I do?" For some people, that's what religion is for. They need that to lean on, they have to think they're related to the creator of the universe and loved by him and that life is a gift from him; merely existing but for the blink of an eye on a speck of dust isn't good enough. For other people though, truth, reality, and understanding are more important than a comforting fairy tale; perspective like this is an important part of understanding the reality we live in.

@dmitriboukalov what you just said would be a valid criticism if you knew what you were talking about.. you're not a scientific revolutionary fighting the dogmatic mainstream, you're an armchair science fan with a (at most) basic grasp of physics .. you should leave this kind of debate to educated people

@aRMEd8uLL I honestly don't know why someone would hate this video, if they believe in a deity. I do believe, while Sagan himself was an agnostic, and he never reached a conclusion as to whether there was or was not a deity. But some people think the Never Ending Story challenges their beliefs, so what do I know.

@OtonielRochaSC Okay, I found this exact comment of yours on a video on googolplex. You need to study reality and quit spamming with your "To be an atheist you do not need brains.". For your information, Carl Sagan was an agnostic, and your post will be flagged as spam.

whats up with those hardcore athiests on youtube who are so keen to put down religion? Its just as "bad" as religious people who try to preach. But in my oinion, athiests have more of an invasive behavior online, sht so annoying lol. At least religious people believe in tolerance -_-

@anticorncob6 That's easy. If you are an atheist, you don't believe in hell and therefore you should know he is not there. It should not bother you what others think. Continue to trust in what you believe and let others have their beliefs.

@bakayurei Also a logical fallacy, called an Ad Hominem. An educated mans claims are not "more true" simply because of his education. More educated people than me have had their claims debunked. And who are you to say how strong my grasp of physics is?

@stylesurfers 1. The universe is now known to be no more that 13.8 billion years old, which screws up every percentage in the video. Not by a massive percentage, but it gives it a much larger margin of error.

@JessAndHeidi Im guessing you didnt get the analogy; hes trying to convey the short time humanity has existed compared to the extreme age of the universe by compressing it into a year, months, days, minutes, seconds. Hes not actually saying it happened in a year.

@1958boomergirl if you wonder that, i'm afraid you've missed the point of the ending. yes we matter, a lot. as sagan put it, 15 billion years of developing universe have gone into making us. that's pretty significant.
