What a treat to hear the perspective of someone who was directly involved with CIA-NED-RFA funding on how the system operates.

I was in Kunming when the terrorist strike in the train station. Those days the Uighurs used to sell ha melons in the streets, some have Muslim restaurant. The other minorities boycotted them after the incident. Today in Xinjiang, I think the Uighurs are much happier than me.❤ From Malaysia.

China's "one child" policy enacted in 1976 was NOT a CPC creation. The genesis of this policy was "The Club of Rome" (forerunner to WEF). This Western institution is "Malthusian" in nature and it's recommendation to China to install a one child policy was included when Nixon/Kissinger negotiated with China in the early 1970's to open up China to the World economy. In other words, for China to join the World, it was "a requirement" that the CPC install a "one child policy". Since 2015, President Xi Jinping has reversed this policy as the CPC realized it was a "demographic trap" set by the West.

I'm ABC. Born 1966 in CA, USA. First time in China (motherland), 1976. Mao was still alive. I didn't know crap then but that China SUCKED!... Since then I watched and experienced China change.... As a college student at round 1988, the Uhyghers of Xinjiang where privileged. The government (CPC, CCP, CCCCPPPP, whatever the **ck), treated their minorities with special importance. The CPC treated the minorities WAY HELL ASS BETTER than the Han majority. The Communist Party or China, imo, has attempted/tried to provide EQUALITY for ALL.... The West has somehow been able to convince themselves that China is NOT Communist... Probably too hard to accept that "communism" can kick US/freedom/democracy ass... But however if you can OPEN your F'in mind, I hope some sort of enlightenment comes to play....

This was such a refreshing discussion. I hear so much that is just comically not based in reality regarding China.

I got my undergrad from Stanford and graduate from Harvard. That was 20 years ago. Now, I'm fearful that my daughter, who is probably smarter than me, won't be able to attend college at all because the cost has become prohibitive. If US can't fix this, it's game over for this society.

Carl, in describing the Tiananmen Protest when living in China and then reviewing it from within the US and how it was like day and night perspective. This is how we are seeing the Ukrainian war from the corporate media vs the internet. What is very disturbing is how angry and unwilling most Americans are to any contradicting information from the corporate media assuming that it is all lies..

I thought Carl is just contrarian in this anti-China storm. Listening to him in this podcast, I now think he is trying to tell what he believes is truth without any political intention

most Chinese students took the excuse of the 1989 event to stay abroad without coming back, more for ecnomic reasons than politics.

Insightful discussion. One prediction regarding Taiwan may be wrong though. Zha seems to say when china becomes the uncontested hegemon, then the US will sell Taiwan to China, and China will negotiate a peaceful reunification with Taiwan. I'm not sure. By that time even if the US is willing to sell Taiwan to China, whether taiwanese will want. Their sense of freedom and democratic election etc is totally different from Chinese in China. China's regime, however successful for China , is really unattractive to the taiwanese. Then what can china offer to Taiwan? Not even One country two systems would make it. Maybe china turns to be a federation? In any case, china in its current form cannot convince taiwanese, however rich it is. Sigh...
