I make essentially this recipe but a bit differently! I use day off crusty bread like you, and I rip it but I don’t put them in the oven! They dry out naturally enough while everything is cooking for me! I add the hardier herbs to the cooking onions and celery so it helps absorb the flavour, I also add the chicken stock to the pan once everything is cooked so that every piece of stuffing is equally flavoured! Add the fresh parsley at this point, I then pour it over the bread and mix, it’s definitely “mushier” except it crisps really nicely! So after 30 mins covered and 15 uncovered, it’s crunchy/crispy on the top and bottom and a little softer in the middle. And really really flavourful! Sometimes I’ll also use some brown bread and rye bread for additional different flavours/texture.
@brt5273

If yours was the only comment I'd be confused, but apparently a lot of people are having discussion about it and some are indeed "mad". Gravity and the time of year (clock change too) has everyone in a mood, I wouldn't take it too personally; I'd like to try both versions, but I'll be happy with the dressing I am given at Christmas (as Canadian Thanksgiving is long gone, that stuffing was pretty good!).

I normally don’t cook a turkey and rarely have I ever made dressing. I was doing the full turkey dinner for two and decided to make dressing. A friend gave me a recipe and a search came up with this video - the exact same recipe. Carla’s description of the objective in how to get the bread correctly moistened was critical in the success of my dressing. I had a bit more bread and I made some poultry seasoning and added 2 tsp of that to the onions before they were mixed with the bread. I would do it all again, it was wonderful. Thank you.

Carla isn't wrong... Last Thanksgiving I fed 14 at my table. It was a record. I used four and a half pounds of butter alone in the cooking and the other half pound for spreading on rolls and loaves. The next day, I had none for eggs. Had to run to the market.

Carla made it clear stuffing is one of those things that can hang out, before browning. Even on the recipe online it says you can wait to brown it. I used a glass dish like she did on the video, I took it out, and then waited 30 minutes before it was ready to serve. It looked amazing and delicious when I took it out of the oven- but then I put it on the counter and the glass shattered!!! I’d use a ceramic baking dish if I did this again for thanksgiving . Thanks Bon appetit!

Some people are complaining about this being Sponsored content but I think the way they went about it was really well done. Carla only says "Swanson" once and there was limited intrusions by the editors. Naturally the box was always label out but who cares? My go-to stuffing for years. Been doing this recipe well before BA ever featured it. My only change... toss is a couple handfuls of dried cranberries in. They rehydrate with the broth and give just the right about of sweet-sour bite to counteract all the savory.

@@BB-ni2jo this video REALLY isn't blatant about being a sponsored video. For legal purposes it has to be pretty obvious to the consumer that this is an advertisement for a product. @@kiroropupper3914 it's pretty obvious, but sure. The sponsored note in the description, the obvious placement of the swanson logo, and the note during the broth part make it perfectly obvious that the video is sponsored. You think Condé Nast doesn't know the requirements of a sponsorship?

quick tip.....if your stuffing is too moist before you put it in the oven then don't put aluminum foil over the pan. Likewise, if your stuffing is a little too dry put aluminum foil over the pan. The aluminum foil will add moister to your dish. of course, no matter what after your stuffing is done put your stuffing in the oven for 8 minutes without a cover to get a crispy top.
