Remember the Kids that were picking on Armin on the very first Episode ? i watched that episode so many fucking times, but only like after 10 literal years i saw that the kids who where picking on Armin got crushed by a Boulder - its only a very short moment.

eren and mikasa repeating the phrase he said way back when to reinforce their thinking to push themselves forward always gets me. mikasa's is filled with doubt as she sits by sasha's grave the entire day whereas eren's is filled with conviction. and yeah mikasa was rlly close with sasha outside of ema, they're the only girl scouts and were roommates and had a little bit of banter here and there so obv both armin and mikasa took her death hard...interesting to see how armin's response is to vent to annie and question his decisions and trust in eren meanwhile mikasa's is to reinforce it despite being emotionally conflicted bc of the fact that her best girlfriend died as a result of the actions of the person she treasures the most. "if you win you live, if you lose you die" but is it rlly considered a win for her if one of her closest friends died, was the fight worth the cost. also dw about the fandom pressurizing you guys to "choose sides", the author makes it a point that no one is fully right or fully wrong, armin established this way back in s1 with his speech with annie, being a good person is entirely subjective. you're allowed to empathize with characters despite supporting war and killing etc

You two hit the nail on the head with your analysis of Eren's character at the end. Also remember that this is the same Eren who, at the age of 9, brutally murdered two human traffickers to save a girl whom he had never even met before (and then subsequently told her to win is to fight, encouraging her to kill the third trafficker), and completely dehumanized those men in the process. Then, a year later, he saw titans destroy his home and eat his mother before his very eyes. Eren's not completely right in the head, even if his values and motivations are good, he's not the kind of person to be burdened by the weight of what he's done like Erwin. That's not to say he'd callously throw away his friends' lives, far from it, Sasha's death *did* affect him, but his breaking point is seemingly much higher.

Fun thing to remember from past seasons is that: Armin had a bit of a crush on Annie, Bertholdt also had a crush on Annie, and Annie seemed to have a soft spot for Armin. I've heard the seashell described by people as representing a few different things to Arwin, which is why he holds onto it. 1st one is that hermit crabs will move into a slightly bigger shell as they grow too big for their current shell. Thats sort of how the world has been for the main characters of the story so far. First their world was just Zhiganshina, then it was the interor of Wall Rose, then it was all of Wall Maria, then it was all of the island, and now they can see the rest of the world too. The 2nd interpretation is that when you hold a seashell up to your ear you can hear the sea, and so Armin holds onto it so that he can hear the sea whenever he wants to. So the seashell can represent to Armin the constantly growing and changing scale of the world around them, or just as a physical reminder of what freedom means to him. Either way its a pretty cool detail.

What people expected after seeing the crew show up in episode 6: Everyone is on the same page, Eren is working with them, Zeke is still looking for revenge, Armin detained the titans, Annie is back after all these years? What they actually got: The group is in shambles and a rift has formed, Eren essentially forced them into this and no one is on the same page, MONKE SUPREMACY, it was actually Yelena, and Annie's still taking a nap I think it's a cool little subtle detail that immediately after eating Lara, Eren puts his hair in a bun. A very similar hairstyle to hers. Poor Armin feels like he's becoming distant from his best friend. Zeke is rejecting his humanity and returning to Monke. Yelena is amazing and an intriguing new addition to the cast. And Annie has finally returned, sorta. It's been 84 years.

If thats the case then it is a bad way to end a character story. First we had no idea who Nicolo was and his relationship with Sasha. Sasha is a fan favorite character and to have her last words be something that people cant relate to is a bad way to end her character. If they had given hints about Nicolo and his relationship with her before her death scene then there might have been a possibility. Meat makes more sense for her character.
@greatanwaegbu2 жыл бұрын
@@smol6193 perhaps you should pay more attention to Sasha's character then. She was created to be comic relief (modelled after Sacha-Baron Cohen), but she became much more than that. If you remember her quarrel with her father about changing their way of life from being hunters, you'll remember that her father was trying to help her let go of her hatred for outsiders. He (her father) said everyone was just in a big forest, all children of that forest. Sasha's first character development comes when she returns home, and saves one of those people whom have come into her home and changed her family's ancient hunting tradition. It's then even more interesting if she and Nico had anything together, because she (Sasha) began as someone who didn't like outsiders (much like people in real life hate immigrants). Now her world which resolved around potato and meat, which she can't see beyond, is shaken by the fact that there's food even in the vast water. She's now more open to other children in the forest, and everything the forest itself has to offer. This is what Sasha has become, and limiting her entire story to someone that loves 'meat' is a really poor way to see her story. If she did fall in love with an outsider, if she did fall in love with a child of the forest, then it's consistent with how her story has been built up. SPOILER Kaya actually says she believed Nico and Sasha were in love. If you've seen the show, it's clear as day. These kids have been fighting all their life, you don't think they want to find love? Damn.

@@greatanwaegbu Maybe you need to actually read my comment and try to understand my point before writing an entire essay lol. Maybe everything you said is correct but thats not the point because most of the things you mentioned are just fanciful imagination. Not everything has to be poetic. Even before she was being shot she was asking when they were going to eat. And if you actually cared to understand the obvious emphasis on her character instead of looking for poetic justice, it is clearly obvious what she was thinking about when she was dying. Now if you find it difficult to understand my previous comment I will simplify it for you. What you mentioned might be correct but I wasnt implying that anybody is wrong in thinking that she might have said Nicolo but I was talking about the writing choice. It made less sense to have her say Nicolo since we hardly know anything about him even if she was in love with him, we didnt know about the character so while watching the scene itself it wont make sense. And believe me death of a fan fav character should be meaningful when they are dying not in later episodes. Otherwise its bad writing. The viewers would relate more to her saying meat than Nico.

To be fair to Gabi, when she went up to the airship she was fully planning to die. Not her rage, cause that I get, and I do kind of see the old eren in her in that regard. But eren was more self loathing while gabi came off as really pompous, and I think that’s what makes me like her a bit less than young eren.

The big difference between S1 episode 1 and this stretch of season 4, where I disagree with Ange: The Warriors were children following orders during that period in time during the events that unfolded during the fall of Wall Maria. These children were victims in other words, not truly understanding what they were doing nor why. The adults commanding them were morally responsible, however. But Eren in this season is no child; he is an adult who fully grasps the nature of what he is about to do and goes about doing it in spite of that, knowing full well the consequences. It's one thing for a child to kill and an entirely different thing for an adult to commit mass murder. In one case you don't have the same level of moral/legal responsibility, but in the case of an adult committing premeditated murder there certainly is. This is why I sympathized more with the Warriors overall, and the Warriors candidates especially. As for Eren, I found it very difficult to justify his actions in light of this philosophy of his where the ends seem to justify the means. That is why much like Hange, I lost my trust in Eren and could no longer support his actions during this period, though that is not to say that he didn't remain one of the best if not the best written characters on the show imho.

Sashas first major action in the show (other then stealing food) was to save a mans life in ep5. Every time we see her after that she is doing something to help someone. Whether its saving the girl in the village from the titan, rescuing Jean from the cart in S3 or even killing someone who was about to kill connie. Even during the battle, she is sniping armed soldiers but doesn't shoot gabi, despite the fact she must know she is a warrior candidate. Of course that kind sweet girl doesn't give a damn about where Niccolo was from or even the fact he despised her. She ate his food and praised his skill regardless. So I am glad her death is given the appropriate focus in this episode. She deserved the spotlight for being the understated hero throughout.

Well first of all, there is a big difference between loving Eren and supporting him. I can't condone or support his actions, but I still love him, he's one of my favorite characters, and my heart is broken for him. And I disagree that he didn't have a choice. Spoiler alert just in case, I don't remember exactly what is clarified at this point but: On the contrary, the whole thing is set up by Zeke, and therefore Eren, now that we know that they worked together. At the beginning of 3x02, Marley is just willing to lick their wounds after the 4 years war, but it's Zeke idea to involve the Tybur and form an alliance to declare war on Paradis. If it weren't for Zeke and Eren, Marley wouldn't have declare war, at least not this soon.

The anti Marleyan volunteers aren't fighting because they necessarily care about the eldians(paradisians)/subjects of Ymir. They're fighting because Marley is repeating the same tyranny that the former eldia empire committed onto Marley and the rest of the main continent from 107 yrs ago during and before the Great Titan war. Marley, in using the powers of the now conquered subjects of Ymir, are controlling the titans in dominating and devouring the rest of the continent. Which has predictably led to the situation that formed Yellena's group of people's from subjugated nations, they cooperate with paradis because the paradisians are the ones who most of all have to stand against Marley or risk being annihilated. This is a "the enemy of my enemy" situation, more than a humanitarian one, at least for the majority of the volunteers that is.
@lextutor46822 жыл бұрын
Just to add to the discussion - Paradise attack on Marley is NOT the same as what Marley soldiers did in Ep1. Marley even expected the attack or some action as we know from Willy and Magath's talk. They knew what they did to Paradise before, the ships that they send never came back. Eren and the crew in episode one didn't know anything at all.
@TheEnd01172 жыл бұрын
It was a surprise attack but Marley declared war first. Eren waited till the last second to see if Marley would choose a different path. The whole world chose to declare war on Marley and the eldians living there. I genuinely don’t feel for the Marlyeans. You can’t attack first and declare war and then be surprised when people retaliate.

One thing I’ve never understood about the rumbling and how ANYBODY from paradis could be for it is that…. These massive titans will shatter the wall material which will cause flying debris, and then they’re going to walk out of the island, meaning that the only thing left of the people inside the walls would be the very very center elite. Bc it’s not like the titans are going to sidestep buildings and carefully walk down streets and avoid crushing anyone to death… like? Can someone explain how the rumbling isn’t just mutually assured destruction?

When Eren said there was no misconception about them being monsters, then how would he answer if he were asked to put himself in Marleyan shoes? Would he think that "yes, Eldians are monsters, therefore they should be killed"? Then how is he better? If not, then clearly he can see that talking is the better option. Moreover, Armin was right that talking is the best option, because we clearly see Nicolo go from wanting to sacrifice himself to kill Eldians, to loving one. Even Eren's OWN FATHER was a mainland Eldian who resented the islanders, but fell in love with one.

@IceMaverick132 жыл бұрын
I shake my head every time I see this theory endlessly pandered when it's so immediately debunked by just looking at the source material. Japanese isn't like English where words that are phonetically similar in sound might have potentially similar spellings as well. This is especially misleading since it's filtered through multiple layers of language-bias from text to audio if you're a Japanese non-speaker. The actual characters used by Japanese writing needed to spell "Meat" and "Nicolo" are in _entirely_ different *alphabets*. Isayama would've had to switch to an entirely different writing system than the one he used to imply that she said "Nico..." and got cut off in the middle of her dying breath. Instead he used the _Kanji_ for "meat" which has exactly _one_ way of writing it, pronouncing it, and no room for interpretation as being a part of another written word. If he wanted to imply something else, he could've written similar sounding characters in Katakana and left the reader to interpret the meaning behind the deliberate choice to use that alphabet and what word could've been implied by the characters written. Instead, he made the deliberate choice to use the Kanji, which leaves no real room for interpretation of meaning (not to mention the "ku" and "co" sounds are not at all similar in spoken Japanese). Unless Isayama comes out on public record and says something like "I was deliberately misleading when I wrote that", the idea doesn't hold any water. The only way to continue hopelessly clutching onto this theory is to shift the idea from "This word and part of another word sound similar" to "Isayama is a bad writer and didn't consider the subtleties of his own written language enough to realize that he could've written it a different way than he did in order to imply a double meaning". And anybody willing to switch to the latter idea is a mad-man in my eyes.
