It is also worth mentioning that genuine peacoats can be buttoned either left on right or right on left, it is because reefers would button them according to the wind direction.

I look forward to it, mainly because of your philosophy on quality, and the honest approach. 2) I got my peacoat from a Salvation Army Thrift Store, 100% virgin wool, navy blue, for $25 Canadian. It was a boxy fit but the shoulders fit, so I had it shortened from shin length to lower thigh length, and sewed on my own buttons and made double-breasted to make it not so boxy. 00:32 tote bag carried by that mariner At one time these were very popular - you could buy them at Army-Navy stores or just about any bag shop. My dad (former merchant marine) had one for many moons. I also had one in my youth. Sadly, they are not made any more. Peacoats are good and generally keep you warm & dry. However, they lack a hood so that it will not keep the rain or snow or wind from your face and neck.

They are the best winter coat what you can get. They look great, they comfortable and very warm. I wanted one since I saw Sean Connery in the opening of the Hunt for Red October, Now I have 3 of them. I bought the first when I was in college, the second one was an upgrade in material (80% wool outer, 100% cotton lining), the third one is a longer version, which is great as an overcoat. The coolest outfit in a harbor city, I felt like a star in Hamburg. You can also use the lapels to protect your neck, if you button all of the buttons then roll the lapels up.

Have my own Peacoat from the Navy, But i really like the Swedish Wool Longcoats, and I just bought a Hungarian Wool Trench coat for 50.00. Both were brand new but from the 60's and 80's. Used a Green overcoat dbl breasted made of cotton and waxed it for a bush coat and a rain cape and it is now a light weight, (sorta, wax added a couple of pounds) foul weather coat. But a nice Peacoat, for a casual night out in the city is always good. How ever wear a sweater, cause the girls always seem to get cold, then get real happy when you let them wear it.

In January this year (2024) I bought the Triple Aught Design Dreadnaught Peacoat. Missed it last year as it sells out. This thing was expensive $695. Though I saved about a hundred bucks with their military discount. This jacket is amazing! its made from 100% Pure New Melton Wool. Has four pockets. Two hand warmer pockets and two stash pockets. Had a version of peacoat at naval academy along with longer bridge coat and a short “campus jacket”. I was a Marine and tossed everything but campus jacket for sentimental reasons. Should have kept those heavy coats for posterity. It was kind of obscene the uniform items I tossed, some of which had no actual Navy counterpart even. Then I dropped about $3k on my Marine officer uniforms and accoutrement.

Sad to say I got rid of it when I was living in Florida because I never wore it and with 100% wool it was very stiff compared to my puffer jacket and ichy. I searched high and low for a amazing Peacoat. I literally spent five years trying on pea coats and couldn't find the proper fit or style. The fashion brands were too thin, or didn't button the weather out properly. The originals were too boxy and let the wind up the hem, and Schott was just too restrictive. I couldn't move my arms. I finally found the perfect pea coat last year at &Sons. I had the silly arm strap removed at my local tailor, but the jacket fits beautifully. The wool is fantastic, and the thing buttons right up into a weather fortress.

The Pea coat is a great. Can dress it up or down. A good quality one will last a lifetime or more if you take care of it. I wanted a few in different colors because I liked them do much, do I figured second hand shops might have a gem if I'm patient and persistent. I managed to get 3 of my favorite colored pea coats at 2 different second hand shops. One black one grey & one in camel brown. All in good shape without spending a lot and was able to get 3 for less then one brand new. It was a bargain in my eyes. If there was any navy/army surplus stores I would have went first but none in my area, but if I see any when I'm out of town I'll be sure to take a look. Anyways nice review on your realistic take and history regarding the pea coat. All the best..
